NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 Six days before the Passover, Jesus went to Bethany, where Lazarus was, whom he had raised fromthe dead.	1 Gesù, sei giorni prima della Pasqua, andò a Betània, dov'era Lazzaro, che egli aveva risuscitato dai morti.
2 They gave a dinner for him there; Martha waited on them and Lazarus was among those at table.	2 Ora là gli prepararono un pranzo e Marta serviva, mentre Lazzaro era uno di quelli che sedevano a mensa con lui.
3 Mary brought in a pound of very costly ointment, pure nard, and with it anointed the feet of Jesus,wiping them with her hair; the house was fil ed with the scent of the ointment.	3 Maria, presa una libbra di profumo di nardo autentico, molto prezioso, unse i piedi di Gesù e glieli asciugò con i suoi capelli. La casa fu ripiena della fragranza di quel profumo.
4 Then Judas Iscariot -- one of his disciples, the man who was to betray him-said,	4 Dice Giuda Iscariota, uno dei suoi discepoli, che stava per tradirlo:
5 'Why was this ointment not sold for three hundred denari and the money given to the poor?'	5 "Perché non si è venduto il profumo per trecento danari e non si è dato il ricavato ai poveri?".
6 He said this, not because he cared about the poor, but because he was a thief; he was in charge of thecommon fund and used to help himself to the contents.	6 Lo disse, però, non perché gli stavano a cuore i poveri, ma perché era ladro e, avendo la borsa, sottraeva ciò che vi veniva messo dentro.
7 So Jesus said, 'Leave her alone; let her keep it for the day of my burial.	7 Disse allora Gesù: "Lasciala, ché lo doveva conservare per il giorno della mia sepoltura.
8 You have the poor with you always, you wil not always have me.'	8 I poveri infatti li avete sempre con voi, me invece non avete sempre".
9 Meanwhile a large number of Jews heard that he was there and came not only on account of Jesusbut also to see Lazarus whom he had raised from the dead.	9 Una folla numerosa di Giudei venne a sapere che si trovava lì e vennero non solo per Gesù, ma anche per vedere Lazzaro che aveva risuscitato dai morti.
10 Then the chief priests decided to kill Lazarus as well,	10 I sacerdoti-capi decisero allora di uccidere anche Lazzaro,
11 since it was on his account that many of the Jews were leaving them and believing in Jesus.	11 perché a causa sua molti Giudei andavano e credevano in Gesù.
12 The next day the great crowd of people who had come up for the festival heard that Jesus was on hisway to Jerusalem.	12 Il giorno dopo la grande folla giunta per la festa, sentito che Gesù veniva a Gerusalemme,
13 They took branches of palm and went out to receive him, shouting: 'Hosanna! Blessed is he who iscoming in the name of the Lord, the king of Israel.'	13 prese rami di palma e gli andò incontro gridando: Osanna! Benedetto colui che viene nel nome del Signore, il re d'Israele!
14 Jesus found a young donkey and mounted it -- as scripture says:	14 Gesù, trovato un asinello, gli sedette in groppa come sta scritto:
15 Do not be afraid, daughter of Zion; look, your king is approaching, riding on the foal of a donkey.	15 Non temere, figlia di Sion! Ecco, il tuo re viene, seduto sopra un puledro d'asina.
16 At first his disciples did not understand this, but later, after Jesus had been glorified, theyremembered that this had been written about him and that this was what had happened to him.	16 In un primo tempo i suoi discepoli non compresero questo fatto, ma quando Gesù fu glorificato, allora si ricordarono che questo era stato scritto di lui e che era proprio quello che gli avevano fatto.
17 The crowd who had been with him when he cal ed Lazarus out of the tomb and raised him from thedead kept bearing witness to it;	17 La gente, che era stata con lui quando aveva chiamato Lazzaro dal sepolcro e lo aveva risuscitato dai morti, gli rendeva testimonianza.
18 this was another reason why the crowd came out to receive him: they had heard that he had giventhis sign.	18 Per questo gli andò incontro la folla, perché avevano sentito che aveva fatto questo segno.
19 Then the Pharisees said to one another, 'You see, you are making no progress; look, the whole worldhas gone after him!'	19 I farisei allora si dissero fra loro: "Vedete che non combinate nulla: ecco che il mondo gli è andato dietro!".
20 Among those who went up to worship at the festival were some Greeks.	20 Tra quelli che erano saliti per adorare durante la festa c'erano alcuni Greci.
21 These approached Philip, who came from Bethsaida in Galilee, and put this request to him, 'Sir, weshould like to see Jesus.'	21 Essi abbordarono Filippo, quello di Betsàida di Galilea, e gli chiesero: "Signore, vorremmo vedere Gesù".
22 Philip went to tell Andrew, and Andrew and Philip together went to tel Jesus.	22 Filippo va a dirlo ad Andrea. Andrea e Filippo vanno a dirlo a Gesù.
23 Jesus replied to them: Now the hour has come for the Son of man to be glorified.	23 Gesù risponde loro: "E' venuta l'ora che il Figlio dell'uomo sia glorificato.
24 In all truth I tell you, unless a wheat grain fal s into the earth and dies, it remains only a single grain;but if it dies it yields a rich harvest.	24 In verità, in verità vi dico: se il grano di frumento, caduto per terra, non muore, resta esso solo. Ma se muore, porta molto frutto.
25 Anyone who loves his life loses it; anyone who hates his life in this world wil keep it for eternal life.	25 Chi ama la propria vita, la perde, e chi odia la propria vita in questo mondo, la conserverà per la vita eterna.
26 Whoever serves me, must fol ow me, and my servant wil be with me wherever I am. If anyone servesme, my Father wil honour him.	26 Se qualcuno mi serve, mi segua e là dove sono io sarà anche il mio servo. Se uno mi serve, il Padre lo onorerà.
27 Now my soul is troubled. What shal I say: Father, save me from this hour? But it is for this veryreason that I have come to this hour.	27 Ora la mia anima è turbata, e che devo dire?... Padre, sàlvami da quest'ora? Ma proprio per questo sono venuto a quest'ora.
28 Father, glorify your name! A voice came from heaven, 'I have glorified it, and I wil again glorify it.'	28 Padre, glorifica il tuo nome!". Venne allora una voce dal cielo: "L'ho glorificato e lo glorificherò ancora".
29 The crowd standing by, who heard this, said it was a clap of thunder; others said, 'It was an angelspeaking to him.'	29 La gente che stava lì e aveva sentito, diceva che era stato un tuono. Altri dicevano: "Un angelo gli ha parlato".
30 Jesus answered, 'It was not for my sake that this voice came, but for yours.	30 Rispose Gesù: "Non è per me che s'è fatta sentire questa voce, ma per voi.
31 'Now sentence is being passed on this world; now the prince of this world is to be driven out.	31 Ora c'è il giudizio di questo mondo, ora il principe di questo mondo sarà cacciato fuori.
32 And when I am lifted up from the earth, I shal draw al people to myself.'	32 E quando io sarò innalzato da terra, attrarrò tutti a me".
33 By these words he indicated the kind of death he would die.	33 Questo lo diceva per indicare di quale morte stava per morire.
34 The crowd answered, 'The Law has taught us that the Christ wil remain for ever. So how can yousay, "The Son of man must be lifted up"? Who is this Son of man?'	34 Gli rispose la gente: "Noi abbiamo sentito dalla legge che il Cristo rimane per sempre: e come dici tu che il Figlio dell'uomo deve essere innalzato? Chi è questo Figlio dell'uomo?".
35 Jesus then said: The light wil be with you only a little longer now. Go on your way while you have thelight, or darkness wil overtake you, and nobody who walks in the dark knows where he is going.	35 Disse loro Gesù: "Solo ancora un po' di tempo la luce è in mezzo a voi. Camminate finché avete la luce, affinché non vi sorprendano le tenebre. Chi cammina nelle tenebre non sa dove va.
36 While you stil have the light, believe in the light so that you may become children of light. Having saidthis, Jesus left them and was hidden from their sight.	36 Finché avete la luce, credete alla luce, affinché diventiate figli della luce". Questo disse Gesù e, andatosene, si nascose da loro.
37 Though they had been present when he gave so many signs, they did not believe in him;	37 Per quanto Gesù avesse compiuto così grandi segni davanti a loro, non credevano in lui,
38 this was to fulfil the words of the prophet Isaiah: Lord, who has given credence to what they haveheard from us, and who has seen in it a revelation of the Lord's arm?	38 perché si adempisse la parola che aveva detto il profeta Isaia: Signore, chi credette alla nostra parola? Il braccio del Signore a chi fu rivelato?
39 Indeed, they were unable to believe because, as Isaiah says again:	39 Per questo non potevano credere, perché Isaia disse anche:
40 He has blinded their eyes, he has hardened their heart, to prevent them from using their eyes to see,using their heart to understand, changing their ways and being healed by me.	40 Ha accecato i loro occhi e incallito il loro cuore, affinché con gli occhi non vedano e col cuore non comprendano e così non si convertano e io non li guarisca.
41 Isaiah said this because he saw his glory, and his words referred to Jesus.	41 Questo Isaia lo disse, perché vide la sua gloria e parlò di lui.
42 And yet there were many who did believe in him, even among the leading men, but they did not admitit, because of the Pharisees and for fear of being banned from the synagogue:	42 Pur tuttavia anche fra i capi molti credettero in lui, ma non lo professavano pubblicamente a causa dei farisei, per non venire espulsi dalla sinagoga.
43 they put human glory before God's glory.	43 Preferirono infatti la gloria degli uomini alla gloria di Dio.
44 Jesus declared publicly: Whoever believes in me believes not in me but in the one who sent me,	44 Gesù proclamò ad alta voce: "Chi crede in me, non crede in me, ma in Colui che mi ha mandato,
45 and whoever sees me, sees the one who sent me.	45 e colui che vede me, vede Colui che mi ha mandato.
46 I have come into the world as light, to prevent anyone who believes in me from staying in the darkany more.	46 Io, luce, sono venuto nel mondo affinché chi crede in me non rimanga nelle tenebre.
47 If anyone hears my words and does not keep them faithful y, it is not I who shal judge such a person,since I have come not to judge the world, but to save the world:	47 Se uno ascolta le mie parole e non le osserva, io non lo condanno. Non sono venuto infatti per condannare il mondo, ma per salvare il mondo.
48 anyone who rejects me and refuses my words has his judge already: the word itself that I havespoken wil be his judge on the last day.	48 Colui che mi rifiuta e non accoglie le mie parole, ha chi lo giudica. La parola che ho pronunciato, quella lo giudicherà nell'ultimo giorno;
49 For I have not spoken of my own accord; but the Father who sent me commanded me what to sayand what to speak,	49 perché io non ho parlato da me stesso, ma il Padre stesso che mi ha mandato mi ha comandato ciò che dovevo dire e pronunciare.
50 and I know that his commands mean eternal life. And therefore what the Father has told me is what Ispeak.	50 E so che il suo comandamento è vita eterna. Ciò che dico, lo dico come il Padre me l'ha detto".
