Deuteronomy 6

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA MARTINI
1 'Such, then, are the commandments, the laws and the customs which Yahweh your God has instructedme to teach you, for you to observe in the country which you are on your way to possess.	1 Questi sono i precetti, e le cerimonie, e le leggi, le quali il Signore Dio vostro mi ha ordinato d'insegnarvi, affinché le osserviate nella terra, di cui siete per entrare in possesso:
2 And hence, if, throughout your lives, you fear Yahweh your God and keep al his laws andcommandments, which I am laying down for you today, you wil live long, you and your child and your grandchild.	2 Affinché tu tema il Signore Dio tuo, ed eseguisca per tutti i giorni della tua vita tutti i suoi comandamenti e precetti, che io intimo a te, e a' figliuoli, e a’ nipoti tuoi, affinché sien prolungati i tuoi giorni.
3 Listen then, Israel, keep and observe what wil make you prosperous and numerous, as Yahweh, Godof your ancestors, has promised you, in giving you a country flowing with milk and honey.	3 Ascolta, o Israele, e abbi cura di fare quello che il Signore ti ha ordinato, onde tu sii felice e moltiplichi sempre più, come il Signore Dio de' padri tuoi ti ha promesso una terra, che scorre latte e miele.
4 'Listen, Israel: Yahweh our God is the one, the only Yahweh.	4 Ascolta, o Israele: il Signore Dio nostro è un Dio solo.
5 You must love Yahweh your God with al your heart, with al your soul, with al your strength.	5 Amerai il Signore Dio tuo con tutto il cuor tuo, e con tutta l’anima tua, e con tutte le forze tue.
6 Let the words I enjoin on you today stay in your heart.	6 E questi comandamenti, che io ti do oggi, saran fissi in cuor tuo:
7 You shal tel them to your children, and keep on tel ing them, when you are sitting at home, when youare out and about, when you are lying down and when you are standing up;	7 E gli spiegherai a' tuoi figliuoli, e li mediterai assiso in tua casa, e andando per viaggio, andando a dormire, e alzandoti.
8 you must fasten them on your hand as a sign and on your forehead as a headband;	8 E te li legherai alla mano per memoria, e gli avrai pendenti dinanzi agli occhi,
9 you must write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.	9 E gli scriverai sul liminare, e sulle porte della tua casa.
10 'When Yahweh has brought you into the country which he swore to your ancestors Abraham, Isaacand Jacob that he would give you, with great and prosperous cities you have not built,	10 E quando il Signore Dio tuo ti avrà introdotto nella terra promessa da lui con giuramento a' padri tuoi, Abramo, Isacco e Giacobbe, e ti avrà dato quelle città grandi e magnifiche, le quali tu non hai edificato,
11 with houses full of good things you have not provided, with wel s you have not dug, with vineyards andolive trees you have not planted, and then, when you have eaten as much as you want,	11 E le case piene d'ogni sorta di beni, le quali non sono state da te fabbricate, le cisterne non iscavate da te, le vigne, e gli uliveti, che tu non hai piantati,
12 be careful you do not forget Yahweh who has brought you out of Egypt, out of the place of slave-labour.	12 E mangerai, e sarai satollo:
13 Yahweh your God is the one you must fear, him alone you must serve, his is the name by which youmust swear.	13 Diligentemente procura di non iscordarti del Signore, il quale ti trasse dalla terra d'Egitto, dalla casa di schiavitù. Temerai il Signore Dio tuo, e lui solo servirai, e pel nome di lui farai giuramento.
14 'Do not fol ow other gods, gods of the peoples round you,	14 Non andrete dietro agli dei stranieri di tutte quelle nazioni, che vi stanno d'intorno:
15 for Yahweh your God among you is a jealous God; the wrath of Yahweh your God would blaze outagainst you, and he would wipe you off the face of the earth.	15 Perocché un Dio geloso, il Signore Dio tuo sta in mezzo a te: guarda, che non si accenda contro di te il furore del Signore Dio tuo, ond'ei ti stermini dalla superficie della terra.
16 Do not put Yahweh your God to the test as you tested him at Massah.	16 Non tenterai il Signore Dio tuo, come lo tentasti nel luogo di tentazione.
17 Keep the commandments of Yahweh your God, and his instructions and laws which he has laid downfor you,	17 Osserva i comandamenti del Signore Dio tuo, e le leggi, e le cerimonie, che egli ti ha prescritte.
18 and do what Yahweh regards as right and good, so that you may prosper and take possession of thefine country which Yahweh swore to give your ancestors,	18 E fa' quello che è buono e accetto dinanzi al Signore, affinché tu sii felice, ed entri al possesso dell'ottima terra, intorno a cui il Signore fé giuramento ai padri tuoi,
19 driving out your enemies before you; such was Yahweh's promise.	19 Di sterminare dinanzi a te tutti i tuoi nemici secondo la sua parola.
20 'In times to come, when your child asks you, "What is the meaning of these instructions, laws andcustoms which Yahweh our God has laid down for you?"	20 E quando in appresso il tuo figliuolo ti domanderà: Che voglion significare queste leggi e cerimonie, e osservanze prescritte a noi dal Signore Dio nostro?
21 you are to tel your child, "Once we were Pharaoh's slaves in Egypt, and Yahweh brought us out ofEgypt by his mighty hand.	21 Tu gli dirai: Noi eravamo servi di Faraone in Egitto, e il Signore dall’Egitto ci trasse fuori con man possente:
22 Before our eyes, Yahweh worked great and terrible signs and wonders against Egypt, againstPharaoh and his entire household.	22 E fece segni e prodigii grandi e orribili nell’Egitto contro Faraone, e contro tutta la sua casa dinanzi a noi,
23 And he brought us out of there, to lead us into the country which he had sworn to our ancestors thathe would give us.	23 E fuor di là ci condusse per farci entrare al possesso della terra, di cui fe giuramento a' padri nostri.
24 And Yahweh has commanded us to observe all these laws and to fear Yahweh our God, so as to behappy for ever and to survive, as we do to this day.	24 E il Signore ci ordinò di osservare tutte queste leggi, e di temere il Signore Dio nostro, affinché siamo felici per tutti i giorni di nostra vita, come oggi ci avviene.
25 For us, right living wil mean this: to keep and observe al these commandments in obedience toYahweh our God, as he has commanded us." '	25 E avrà misericordia di noi il Signore, se osserveremo e adempiremo dinanzi a lui Dio nostro tutti i suoi precetti, come egli ci ha ordinato.
