NEW JERUSALEMKING JAMES BIBLE
'Such, then, are the commandments, the laws and the customs which Yahweh your God has instructedme to teach you, for you to observe in the country which you are on your way to possess.1 Now these are the commandments, the statutes, and the judgments, which the LORD your God commanded to teach you, that ye might do them in the land whither ye go to possess it:
And hence, if, throughout your lives, you fear Yahweh your God and keep al his laws andcommandments, which I am laying down for you today, you wil live long, you and your child and your grandchild.2 That thou mightest fear the LORD thy God, to keep all his statutes and his commandments, which I command thee, thou, and thy son, and thy son's son, all the days of thy life; and that thy days may be prolonged.
Listen then, Israel, keep and observe what wil make you prosperous and numerous, as Yahweh, Godof your ancestors, has promised you, in giving you a country flowing with milk and honey.3 Hear therefore, O Israel, and observe to do it; that it may be well with thee, and that ye may increase mightily, as the LORD God of thy fathers hath promised thee, in the land that floweth with milk and honey.
'Listen, Israel: Yahweh our God is the one, the only Yahweh.4 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD:
You must love Yahweh your God with al your heart, with al your soul, with al your strength.5 And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.
Let the words I enjoin on you today stay in your heart.6 And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart:
You shal tel them to your children, and keep on tel ing them, when you are sitting at home, when youare out and about, when you are lying down and when you are standing up;7 And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.
you must fasten them on your hand as a sign and on your forehead as a headband;8 And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes.
you must write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.9 And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates.
'When Yahweh has brought you into the country which he swore to your ancestors Abraham, Isaacand Jacob that he would give you, with great and prosperous cities you have not built,10 And it shall be, when the LORD thy God shall have brought thee into the land which he sware unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give thee great and goodly cities, which thou buildedst not,
with houses full of good things you have not provided, with wel s you have not dug, with vineyards andolive trees you have not planted, and then, when you have eaten as much as you want,11 And houses full of all good things, which thou filledst not, and wells digged, which thou diggedst not, vineyards and olive trees, which thou plantedst not; when thou shalt have eaten and be full;
be careful you do not forget Yahweh who has brought you out of Egypt, out of the place of slave-labour.12 Then beware lest thou forget the LORD, which brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage.
Yahweh your God is the one you must fear, him alone you must serve, his is the name by which youmust swear.13 Thou shalt fear the LORD thy God, and serve him, and shalt swear by his name.
'Do not fol ow other gods, gods of the peoples round you,14 Ye shall not go after other gods, of the gods of the people which are round about you;
for Yahweh your God among you is a jealous God; the wrath of Yahweh your God would blaze outagainst you, and he would wipe you off the face of the earth.15 (For the LORD thy God is a jealous God among you) lest the anger of the LORD thy God be kindled against thee, and destroy thee from off the face of the earth.
Do not put Yahweh your God to the test as you tested him at Massah.16 Ye shall not tempt the LORD your God, as ye tempted him in Massah.
Keep the commandments of Yahweh your God, and his instructions and laws which he has laid downfor you,17 Ye shall diligently keep the commandments of the LORD your God, and his testimonies, and his statutes, which he hath commanded thee.
and do what Yahweh regards as right and good, so that you may prosper and take possession of thefine country which Yahweh swore to give your ancestors,18 And thou shalt do that which is right and good in the sight of the LORD: that it may be well with thee, and that thou mayest go in and possess the good land which the LORD sware unto thy fathers,
driving out your enemies before you; such was Yahweh's promise.19 To cast out all thine enemies from before thee, as the LORD hath spoken.
'In times to come, when your child asks you, "What is the meaning of these instructions, laws andcustoms which Yahweh our God has laid down for you?"20 And when thy son asketh thee in time to come, saying, What mean the testimonies, and the statutes, and the judgments, which the LORD our God hath commanded you?
you are to tel your child, "Once we were Pharaoh's slaves in Egypt, and Yahweh brought us out ofEgypt by his mighty hand.21 Then thou shalt say unto thy son, We were Pharaoh's bondmen in Egypt; and the LORD brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand:
Before our eyes, Yahweh worked great and terrible signs and wonders against Egypt, againstPharaoh and his entire household.22 And the LORD shewed signs and wonders, great and sore, upon Egypt, upon Pharaoh, and upon all his household, before our eyes:
And he brought us out of there, to lead us into the country which he had sworn to our ancestors thathe would give us.23 And he brought us out from thence, that he might bring us in, to give us the land which he sware unto our fathers.
And Yahweh has commanded us to observe all these laws and to fear Yahweh our God, so as to behappy for ever and to survive, as we do to this day.24 And the LORD commanded us to do all these statutes, to fear the LORD our God, for our good always, that he might preserve us alive, as it is at this day.
For us, right living wil mean this: to keep and observe al these commandments in obedience toYahweh our God, as he has commanded us." '25 And it shall be our righteousness, if we observe to do all these commandments before the LORD our God, as he hath commanded us.
