Deuteronomy 6

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLES DES PEUPLES
1 'Such, then, are the commandments, the laws and the customs which Yahweh your God has instructedme to teach you, for you to observe in the country which you are on your way to possess.	1 Voici les commandements, les préceptes et les règles que Yahvé a ordonné de vous apprendre: vous les mettrez en pratique dans le pays où vous allez entrer et qui sera vôtre.
2 And hence, if, throughout your lives, you fear Yahweh your God and keep al his laws andcommandments, which I am laying down for you today, you wil live long, you and your child and your grandchild.	2 Tu craindras Yahvé ton Dieu, toi, ton fils et ton petit-fils, et tu observeras tous les jours de ta vie ces préceptes et ces commandements que je te donne. Ainsi tu connaîtras des jours nombreux.
3 Listen then, Israel, keep and observe what wil make you prosperous and numerous, as Yahweh, Godof your ancestors, has promised you, in giving you a country flowing with milk and honey.	3 Tu écouteras, Israël, et tu auras soin de mettre en pratique ce qui doit être pour toi la source du bonheur et de la prospérité dans ce pays où ruissellent le lait et le miel: ainsi me l’a dit Yahvé, le Dieu de tes pères.
4 'Listen, Israel: Yahweh our God is the one, the only Yahweh.	4 Écoute, Israël, Yahvé notre Dieu est Yahvé-Unique.
5 You must love Yahweh your God with al your heart, with al your soul, with al your strength.	5 Tu aimeras Yahvé ton Dieu, de tout ton cœur, de toute ton âme et de tout ton pouvoir.
6 Let the words I enjoin on you today stay in your heart.	6 Ces paroles que je te dicte aujourd’hui resteront gravées sur ton cœur.
7 You shal tel them to your children, and keep on tel ing them, when you are sitting at home, when youare out and about, when you are lying down and when you are standing up;	7 Tu les enseigneras à tes fils; tu en parleras, que tu sois assis dans ta maison ou que tu marches sur la route, lorsque tu te couches et lorsque tu te lèves.
8 you must fasten them on your hand as a sign and on your forehead as a headband;	8 Tu les attacheras comme un signe sur ta main, elles seront comme un bandeau entre tes yeux.
9 you must write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.	9 Tu les écriras sur les montants de ta maison et sur tes portes.
10 'When Yahweh has brought you into the country which he swore to your ancestors Abraham, Isaacand Jacob that he would give you, with great and prosperous cities you have not built,	10 Lorsque Yahvé ton Dieu t’aura fait entrer au pays qu’il a juré à tes pères Abraham, Isaac et Jacob de te donner, avec des villes grandes et belles que tu n’as pas bâties,
11 with houses full of good things you have not provided, with wel s you have not dug, with vineyards andolive trees you have not planted, and then, when you have eaten as much as you want,	11 des maisons pleines de toutes sortes de biens que tu n’as pas remplies, des citernes que tu n’as pas creusées, des vignes et des oliviers que tu n’as pas plantés mais dont tu mangeras les fruits; lorsque tu seras comblé,
12 be careful you do not forget Yahweh who has brought you out of Egypt, out of the place of slave-labour.	12 garde-toi d’oublier Yahvé qui t’a fait sortir du pays d’Égypte, de la maison de l’esclavage.
13 Yahweh your God is the one you must fear, him alone you must serve, his is the name by which youmust swear.	13 Tu craindras Yahvé ton Dieu, tu le serviras et c’est par son nom que tu jureras.
14 'Do not fol ow other gods, gods of the peoples round you,	14 Vous ne suivrez pas d’autres dieux, ces dieux des nations qui sont autour de vous.
15 for Yahweh your God among you is a jealous God; the wrath of Yahweh your God would blaze outagainst you, and he would wipe you off the face of the earth.	15 Car Yahvé ton Dieu est au milieu de toi et c’est un Dieu jaloux. Si la colère de Yahvé ton Dieu s’enflammait contre toi, il te supprimerait de la surface de la terre.
16 Do not put Yahweh your God to the test as you tested him at Massah.	16 Vous ne mettrez pas au défi Yahvé votre Dieu comme vous l’avez fait à Massa.
17 Keep the commandments of Yahweh your God, and his instructions and laws which he has laid downfor you,	17 Vous observerez fidèlement les commandements de Yahvé votre Dieu, les ordonnances et les règles qu’il vous a commandées.
18 and do what Yahweh regards as right and good, so that you may prosper and take possession of thefine country which Yahweh swore to give your ancestors,	18 Tu feras ce qui est juste et bon aux yeux de Yahvé. Ainsi, le bonheur viendra sur toi et tu parviendras à conquérir le bon pays que Yahvé a promis à vos pères par serment.
19 driving out your enemies before you; such was Yahweh's promise.	19 Vous repousserez devant vous tous vos ennemis, comme Yahvé l’a dit.
20 'In times to come, when your child asks you, "What is the meaning of these instructions, laws andcustoms which Yahweh our God has laid down for you?"	20 Demain, lorsque ton fils te posera cette question: “Que sont ces lois, ces ordonnances, ces préceptes que vous a donnés Yahvé votre Dieu?”
21 you are to tel your child, "Once we were Pharaoh's slaves in Egypt, and Yahweh brought us out ofEgypt by his mighty hand.	21 tu répondras à ton fils: “Nous étions les esclaves de Pharaon en Égypte, et Yahvé nous a fait sortir d’Égypte à main forte.
22 Before our eyes, Yahweh worked great and terrible signs and wonders against Egypt, againstPharaoh and his entire household.	22 Sous nos yeux en Égypte, Yahvé a accompli des signes, des prodiges grands et redoutables, contre Pharaon et contre toute sa maison.
23 And he brought us out of there, to lead us into the country which he had sworn to our ancestors thathe would give us.	23 Il nous a fait sortir de là, pour nous faire entrer dans le pays qu’il avait juré à nos pères de nous donner.
24 And Yahweh has commanded us to observe all these laws and to fear Yahweh our God, so as to behappy for ever and to survive, as we do to this day.	24 C’est alors que Yahvé nous a ordonné de pratiquer tous ces préceptes et de craindre Yahvé notre Dieu; ainsi tout ira bien pour nous et nous vivrons, comme aujourd’hui.
25 For us, right living wil mean this: to keep and observe al these commandments in obedience toYahweh our God, as he has commanded us." '	25 Si nous pratiquons fidèlement tous ces commandements en serviteurs de Yahvé notre Dieu, comme il nous l’a commandé, nous serons justes à ses yeux.”
