Deuteronomy 6

NEW JERUSALEM	JERUSALEM
1 'Such, then, are the commandments, the laws and the customs which Yahweh your God has instructedme to teach you, for you to observe in the country which you are on your way to possess.	1 Tels sont les commandements, les lois et les coutumes que Yahvé votre Dieu a ordonné devous enseigner, afin que vous les mettiez en pratique dans le pays dont vous allez prendre possession.
2 And hence, if, throughout your lives, you fear Yahweh your God and keep al his laws andcommandments, which I am laying down for you today, you wil live long, you and your child and your grandchild.	2 Ainsi, si tu crains Yahvé ton Dieu tous les jours de ta vie, si tu observes toutes ses lois et sescommandements que je t'ordonne aujourd'hui, tu auras longue vie, toi, ton fils et le fils de ton fils.
3 Listen then, Israel, keep and observe what wil make you prosperous and numerous, as Yahweh, Godof your ancestors, has promised you, in giving you a country flowing with milk and honey.	3 Puisses-tu écouter, Israël, garder et pratiquer ce qui te rendra heureux et te multipliera, ainsique te l'a dit Yahvé, le Dieu de tes pères, en te donnant une terre qui ruisselle de lait et de miel!
4 'Listen, Israel: Yahweh our God is the one, the only Yahweh.	4 Ecoute, Israël: Yahvé notre Dieu est le seul Yahvé.
5 You must love Yahweh your God with al your heart, with al your soul, with al your strength.	5 Tu aimeras Yahvé ton Dieu de tout ton coeur, de toute ton âme et de tout ton pouvoir.
6 Let the words I enjoin on you today stay in your heart.	6 Que ces paroles que je te dicte aujourd'hui restent dans ton coeur!
7 You shal tel them to your children, and keep on tel ing them, when you are sitting at home, when youare out and about, when you are lying down and when you are standing up;	7 Tu les répéteras à tes fils, tu les leur diras aussi bien assis dans ta maison que marchant sur laroute, couché aussi bien que debout;
8 you must fasten them on your hand as a sign and on your forehead as a headband;	8 tu les attacheras à ta main comme un signe, sur ton front comme un bandeau;
9 you must write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.	9 tu les écriras sur les poteaux de ta maison et sur tes portes.
10 'When Yahweh has brought you into the country which he swore to your ancestors Abraham, Isaacand Jacob that he would give you, with great and prosperous cities you have not built,	10 Lorsque Yahvé ton Dieu t'aura conduit au pays qu'il a juré à tes pères, Abraham, Isaac etJacob, de te donner, aux villes grandes et prospères que tu n'as pas bâties,
11 with houses full of good things you have not provided, with wel s you have not dug, with vineyards andolive trees you have not planted, and then, when you have eaten as much as you want,	11 aux maisons pleines de toutes sortes de biens, maisons que tu n'as pas remplies, aux puitsque tu n'as pas creusés, aux vignes et aux oliviers que tu n'as pas plantés, lors donc que tu auras mangé et que tute seras rassasié,
12 be careful you do not forget Yahweh who has brought you out of Egypt, out of the place of slave-labour.	12 garde-toi d'oublier Yahvé qui t'a fait sortir du pays d'Egypte, de la maison de servitude.
13 Yahweh your God is the one you must fear, him alone you must serve, his is the name by which youmust swear.	13 C'est Yahvé ton Dieu que tu craindras, lui que tu serviras, c'est par son nom que tu jureras.
14 'Do not fol ow other gods, gods of the peoples round you,	14 Ne suivez pas d'autres dieux, d'entre les dieux des nations qui vous entourent,
15 for Yahweh your God among you is a jealous God; the wrath of Yahweh your God would blaze outagainst you, and he would wipe you off the face of the earth.	15 car c'est un Dieu jaloux que Yahvé ton Dieu qui est au milieu de toi. La colère de Yahvé tonDieu s'enflammerait contre toi et il te ferait disparaître de la face de la terre.
16 Do not put Yahweh your God to the test as you tested him at Massah.	16 Vous ne mettrez pas Yahvé votre Dieu à l'épreuve, comme vous l'avez mis à l'épreuve àMassa.
17 Keep the commandments of Yahweh your God, and his instructions and laws which he has laid downfor you,	17 Vous garderez les commandements de Yahvé votre Dieu, ses instructions et ses lois qu'il t'aprescrites,
18 and do what Yahweh regards as right and good, so that you may prosper and take possession of thefine country which Yahweh swore to give your ancestors,	18 et tu feras ce qui est juste et bon aux yeux de Yahvé afin d'être heureux, et de prendrepossession de l'heureux pays dont Yahvé a juré à tes pères
19 driving out your enemies before you; such was Yahweh's promise.	19 qu'il en chasserait tous tes ennemis devant toi; ainsi l'a dit Yahvé.
20 'In times to come, when your child asks you, "What is the meaning of these instructions, laws andcustoms which Yahweh our God has laid down for you?"	20 Lorsque demain ton fils te demandera: "Qu'est-ce donc que ces instructions, ces lois et cescoutumes que Yahvé notre Dieu vous a prescrites?"
21 you are to tel your child, "Once we were Pharaoh's slaves in Egypt, and Yahweh brought us out ofEgypt by his mighty hand.	21 Tu diras à ton fils: "Nous étions esclaves de Pharaon, en Egypte, et Yahvé nous a fait sortird'Egypte par sa main puissante.
22 Before our eyes, Yahweh worked great and terrible signs and wonders against Egypt, againstPharaoh and his entire household.	22 Yahvé a accompli sous nos yeux des signes et des prodiges grands et terribles contrel'Egypte, Pharaon et toute sa maison.
23 And he brought us out of there, to lead us into the country which he had sworn to our ancestors thathe would give us.	23 Mais nous, il nous a fait sortir de là pour nous conduire dans le pays qu'il avait promis parserment à nos pères, et pour nous le donner.
24 And Yahweh has commanded us to observe all these laws and to fear Yahweh our God, so as to behappy for ever and to survive, as we do to this day.	24 Et Yahvé nous a ordonné de mettre en pratique toutes ces lois, afin de craindre Yahvé notreDieu, d'être toujours heureux et de vivre, comme il nous l'a accordé jusqu'à présent.
25 For us, right living wil mean this: to keep and observe al these commandments in obedience toYahweh our God, as he has commanded us." '	25 Telle sera notre justice: garder et mettre en pratique tous ces commandements devant Yahvénotre Dieu, comme il nous l'a ordonné."
