Luke 3

7 He said, therefore, to the crowds who came to be baptised by him, 'Brood of vipers, who warned you toflee from the coming retribution?	7 Das Volk zog in Scharen zu ihm hinaus, um sich von ihm taufen zu lassen. 8 Produce fruit in keeping with repentance, and do not start telling yourselves, "We have Abraham as ourfather," because, I tel you, God can raise children for Abraham from these stones.	8 Bringt Früchte hervor, die eure Umkehr zeigen, und fangt nicht an zu sagen: Wir haben ja Abraham zum Vater. Denn ich sage euch: Gott kann aus diesen Steinen Kinder Abrahams machen.
9 Yes, even now the axe is being laid to the root of the trees, so that any tree failing to produce good fruitwil be cut down and thrown on the fire.'	9 Schon ist die Axt an die Wurzel der Bäume gelegt; jeder Baum, der keine gute Frucht hervorbringt, wird umgehauen und ins Feuer geworfen.
10 When al the people asked him, 'What must we do, then?'	10 Da fragten ihn die Leute: Was sollen wir also tun?
11 he answered, 'Anyone who has two tunics must share with the one who has none, and anyone withsomething to eat must do the same.'	11 Er antwortete ihnen: Wer zwei Gewänder hat, der gebe eines davon dem, der keines hat, und wer zu essen hat, der handle ebenso.
12 There were tax collectors, too, who came for baptism, and these said to him, 'Master, what must wedo?'	12 Es kamen auch Zöllner zu ihm, um sich taufen zu lassen, und fragten: Meister, was sollen wir tun?
13 He said to them, 'Exact no more than the appointed rate.'	13 Er sagte zu ihnen: Verlangt nicht mehr, als festgesetzt ist.
14 Some soldiers asked him in their turn, 'What about us? What must we do?' He said to them, 'Nointimidation! No extortion! Be content with your pay!'	14 Auch Soldaten fragten ihn: Was sollen denn wir tun? Und er sagte zu ihnen: Misshandelt niemand, erpresst niemand, begnügt euch mit eurem Sold!
15 A feeling of expectancy had grown among the people, who were beginning to wonder whether Johnmight be the Christ,	15 Das Volk war voll Erwartung und alle überlegten im Stillen, ob Johannes nicht vielleicht selbst der Messias sei.
16 so John declared before them al , 'I baptise you with water, but someone is coming, who is morepowerful than me, and I am not fit to undo the strap of his sandals; he will baptise you with the Holy Spirit andfire.	16 Doch Johannes gab ihnen allen zur Antwort: Ich taufe euch nur mit Wasser. Es kommt aber einer, der stärker ist als ich, und ich bin es nicht wert, ihm die Schuhe aufzuschnüren. Er wird euch mit dem Heiligen Geist und mit Feuer taufen.
17 His winnowing-fan is in his hand, to clear his threshing-floor and to gather the wheat into his barn; butthe chaff he wil burn in a fire that will never go out.'	17 Schon hält er die Schaufel in der Hand, um die Spreu vom Weizen zu trennen und den Weizen in seine Scheune zu bringen; die Spreu aber wird er in nie erlöschendem Feuer verbrennen.
18 And he proclaimed the good news to the people with many other exhortations too.	18 Mit diesen und vielen anderen Worten ermahnte er das Volk in seiner Predigt.
19 But Herod the tetrarch, censured by John for his relations with his brother's wife Herodias and for allthe other crimes he had committed,	19 Johannes tadelte auch den Tetrarchen Herodes wegen (der Sache mit) Herodias, der Frau seines Bruders, und wegen all der anderen Schandtaten, die er verübt hatte.

22 and the Holy Spirit descended on him in a physical form, like a dove.
