NEW JERUSALEM	SAGRADA BIBLIA
1 And he said to them, 'In truth I tel you, there are some standing here who wil not taste death beforethey see the kingdom of God come with power.'	1 E dizia-lhes: Em verdade vos digo: dos que aqui se acham, alguns há que não experimentarão a morte, enquanto não virem chegar o Reino de Deus com poder.
2 Six days later, Jesus took with him Peter and James and John and led them up a high mountain ontheir own by themselves. There in their presence he was transfigured:	2 Seis dias depois, Jesus tomou consigo a Pedro, Tiago e João, e conduziu-os a sós a um alto monte. E
3 his clothes became brilliantly white, whiter than any earthly bleacher could make them.	3 transfigurou-se diante deles. Suas vestes tornaram-se resplandecentes e de uma brancura tal, que nenhum lavadeiro sobre a terra as pode fazer assim tão brancas.
4 Elijah appeared to them with Moses; and they were talking to Jesus.	4 Apareceram-lhes Elias e Moisés, e falavam com Jesus.
5 Then Peter spoke to Jesus, 'Rabbi,' he said, 'it is wonderful for us to be here; so let us make threeshelters, one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah.'	5 Pedro tomou a palavra: Mestre, é bom para nós estarmos aqui; faremos três tendas: uma para ti, outra para Moisés e outra para Elias.
6 He did not know what to say; they were so frightened.	6 Com efeito, não sabia o que falava, porque estavam sobremaneira atemorizados.
7 And a cloud came, covering them in shadow; and from the cloud there came a voice, 'This is my Son,the Beloved. Listen to him.'	7 Formou-se então uma nuvem que os encobriu com a sua sombra; e da nuvem veio uma voz: Este é o meu Filho muito amado; ouvi-o.
8 Then suddenly, when they looked round, they saw no one with them any more but only Jesus.	8 E olhando eles logo em derredor, já não viram ninguém, senão só a Jesus com eles.
9 As they were coming down from the mountain he warned them to tel no one what they had seen, untilafter the Son of man had risen from the dead.	9 Ao descerem do monte, proibiu-lhes Jesus que contassem a quem quer que fosse o que tinham visto, até que o Filho do homem houvesse ressurgido dos mortos.
10 They observed the warning faithful y, though among themselves they discussed what 'rising from thedead' could mean.	10 E guardaram esta recomendação consigo, perguntando entre si o que significaria: Ser ressuscitado dentre os mortos.
11 And they put this question to him, 'Why do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?'	11 Depois lhe perguntaram: Por que dizem os fariseus e os escribas que primeiro deve voltar Elias?
12 He said to them, 'Elijah is indeed first coming to set everything right again; yet how is it that thescriptures say about the Son of man that he must suffer grievously and be treated with contempt?	12 Respondeu-lhes: Elias deve voltar primeiro e restabelecer tudo em ordem. Como então está escrito acerca do Filho do homem que deve padecer muito e ser desprezado?
13 But I tel you that Elijah has come and they have treated him as they pleased, just as the scripturessay about him.'	13 Mas digo-vos que também Elias já voltou e fizeram-lhe sofrer tudo quanto quiseram, como está escrito dele.
14 As they were rejoining the disciples they saw a large crowd round them and some scribes arguing withthem.	14 Depois, aproximando-se dos discípulos, viu ao redor deles grande multidão, e os escribas a discutir com eles.
15 At once, when they saw him, the whole crowd were struck with amazement and ran to greet him.	15 Todo aquele povo, vendo de surpresa Jesus, acorreu a ele para saudá-lo.
16 And he asked them, 'What are you arguing about with them?'	16 Ele lhes perguntou: Que estais discutindo com eles?
17 A man answered him from the crowd, 'Master, I have brought my son to you; there is a spirit ofdumbness in him,	17 Respondeu um homem dentre a multidão: Mestre, eu te trouxe meu filho, que tem um espírito mudo.
18 and when it takes hold of him it throws him to the ground, and he foams at the mouth and grinds histeeth and goes rigid. And I asked your disciples to drive it out and they were unable to.'	18 Este, onde quer que o apanhe, lança-o por terra e ele espuma, range os dentes e fica endurecido. Roguei a teus discípulos que o expelissem, mas não o puderam.
19 In reply he said to them, 'Faithless generation, how much longer must I be among you? How muchlonger must I put up with you? Bring him to me.'	19 Respondeu-lhes Jesus: Ó geração incrédula, até quando estarei convosco? Até quando vos hei de aturar? Trazei-mo cá!
20 They brought the boy to him, and at once the spirit of dumbness threw the boy into convulsions, andhe fel to the ground and lay writhing there, foaming at the mouth.	20 Eles lho trouxeram. Assim que o menino avistou Jesus, o espírito o agitou fortemente. Caiu por terra e revolvia-se espumando.
21 Jesus asked the father, 'How long has this been happening to him?' 'From childhood,' he said,	21 Jesus perguntou ao pai: Há quanto tempo lhe acontece isto? Desde a infância, respondeu-lhe.
22 'and it has often thrown him into fire and into water, in order to destroy him.	22 E o tem lançado muitas vezes ao fogo e à água, para o matar. Se tu, porém, podes alguma coisa, ajuda-nos, compadece-te de nós!
23 But if you can do anything, have pity on us and help us.'	23 Disse-lhe Jesus: Se podes alguma coisa!... Tudo é possível ao que crê.
24 'If you can?' retorted Jesus. 'Everything is possible for one who has faith.' At once the father of the boycried out, 'I have faith. Help my lack of faith!'	24 Imediatamente exclamou o pai do menino: Creio! Vem em socorro à minha falta de fé!
25 And when Jesus saw that a crowd was gathering, he rebuked the unclean spirit. 'Deaf and dumbspirit,' he said, 'I command you: come out of him and never enter him again.'	25 Vendo Jesus que o povo afluía, intimou o espírito imundo e disse-lhe: Espírito mudo e surdo, eu te ordeno: sai deste menino e não tornes a entrar nele.
26 Then it threw the boy into violent convulsions and came out shouting, and the boy lay there so like acorpse that most of them said, 'He is dead.'	26 E, gritando e maltratando-o extremamente, saiu. O menino ficou como morto, de modo que muitos diziam: Morreu...
27 But Jesus took him by the hand and helped him up, and he was able to stand.	27 Jesus, porém, tomando-o pela mão, ergueu-o e ele levantou-se.
28 When he had gone indoors, his disciples asked him when they were by themselves, 'Why were weunable to drive it out?'	28 Depois de entrar em casa, os seus discípulos perguntaram-lhe em particular: Por que não pudemos nós expeli-lo?
29 He answered, 'This is the kind that can be driven out only by prayer.'	29 Ele disse-lhes: Esta espécie de demônios não se pode expulsar senão pela oração.
30 After leaving that place they made their way through Galilee; and he did not want anyone to know,	30 Tendo partido dali, atravessaram a Galiléia. Não queria, porém, que ninguém o soubesse.
31 because he was instructing his disciples; he was telling them, 'The Son of man wil be delivered intothe power of men; they will put him to death; and three days after he has been put to death he will rise again.'	31 E ensinava os seus discípulos: O Filho do homem será entregue nas mãos dos homens, e matá-lo-ão; e ressuscitará três dias depois de sua morte.
32 But they did not understand what he said and were afraid to ask him.	32 Mas não entendiam estas palavras; e tinham medo de lho perguntar.
33 They came to Capernaum, and when he got into the house he asked them, 'What were you arguingabout on the road?'	33 Em seguida, voltaram para Cafarnaum. Quando já estava em casa, Jesus perguntou-lhes: De que faláveis pelo caminho?
34 They said nothing, because on the road they had been arguing which of them was the greatest.	34 Mas eles calaram-se, porque pelo caminho haviam discutido entre si qual deles seria o maior.
35 So he sat down, called the Twelve to him and said, 'If anyone wants to be first, he must make himselflast of all and servant of all.'	35 Sentando-se, chamou os Doze e disse-lhes: Se alguém quer ser o primeiro, seja o último de todos e o servo de todos.
36 He then took a little child whom he set among them and embraced, and he said to them,	36 E tomando um menino, colocou-o no meio deles; abraçou-o e disse-lhes:
37 'Anyone who welcomes a little child such as this in my name, welcomes me; and anyone whowelcomes me, welcomes not me but the one who sent me.'	37 Todo o que recebe um destes meninos em meu nome, a mim é que recebe; e todo o que recebe a mim, não me recebe, mas aquele que me enviou.
38 John said to him, 'Master, we saw someone who is not one of us driving out devils in your name, andbecause he was not one of us we tried to stop him.'	38 João disse-lhe: Mestre, vimos alguém, que não nos segue, expulsar demônios em teu nome, e lho proibimos.
39 But Jesus said, 'You must not stop him; no one who works a miracle in my name could soonafterwards speak evil of me.	39 Jesus, porém, disse-lhe: Não lho proibais, porque não há ninguém que faça um prodígio em meu nome e em seguida possa falar mal de mim.
40 Anyone who is not against us is for us.	40 Pois quem não é contra nós, é a nosso favor.
41 'If anyone gives you a cup of water to drink because you belong to Christ, then in truth I tel you, he wilmost certainly not lose his reward.	41 E quem vos der de beber um copo de água porque sois de Cristo, digo-vos em verdade: não perderá a sua recompensa.
42 'But anyone who is the downfal of one of these little ones who have faith, would be better thrown intothe sea with a great mil stone hung round his neck.	42 Mas todo o que fizer cair no pecado a um destes pequeninos que crêem em mim, melhor lhe fora que uma pedra de moinho lhe fosse posta ao pescoço e o lançassem ao mar!
43 And if your hand should be your downfal , cut it off; it is better for you to enter into life crippled, than tohave two hands and go to hel , into the fire thatnever be put out.	43 Se a tua mão for para ti ocasião de queda, corta-a; melhor te é entrares na vida aleijado do que, tendo duas mãos, ires para a geena, para o fogo inextinguível
44	44 {onde o seu verme não morre e o fogo não se apaga}.
45 And if your foot should be your downfal , cut it off; it is better for you enter into life lame, than to havetwo feet and be thrown into hell.	45 Se o teu pé for para ti ocasião de queda, corta-o fora; melhor te é entrares coxo na vida eterna do que, tendo dois pés, seres lançado à geena do fogo inextinguível
46	46 {onde o seu verme não morre e o fogo não se apaga}.
47 And if your eye should be your downfal , tear it out; it is better for you to enter into the kingdom of Godwith one eye, than to have two eyes and be thrown into hell	47 Se o teu olho for para ti ocasião de queda, arranca-o; melhor te é entrares com um olho de menos no Reino de Deus do que, tendo dois olhos, seres lançado à geena do fogo,
48 where their worm will never die nor their fire be put out.	48 onde o seu verme não morre e o fogo não se apaga.
49 For everyone wil be salted with fire.	49 Porque todo homem será salgado pelo fogo.
50 Salt is a good thing, but if salt has become insipid, how can you make it salty again? Have salt inyourselves and be at peace with one another.'	50 O sal é uma boa coisa; mas se ele se tornar insípido, com que lhe restituireis o sabor? Tende sal em vós e vivei em paz uns com os outros.
