1 And he said to them, 'In truth I tel you, there are some standing here who wil not taste death beforethey see the kingdom of God come with power.'	1 Jésus leur dit encore: "En vérité, je vous le dis, certains qui sont ici ne feront pas l’expérience de la mort avant d’avoir vu le Royaume de Dieu venir avec puissance.”
2 Six days later, Jesus took with him Peter and James and John and led them up a high mountain ontheir own by themselves. There in their presence he was transfigured:	2 Six jours après, Jésus prit avec lui Pierre, Jacques et Jean, et les emmena à l’écart, seuls, sur une haute montagne. Là, devant eux, il fut transfiguré.
3 his clothes became brilliantly white, whiter than any earthly bleacher could make them.	3 Ses vêtements devinrent éclatants de lumière, d’une blancheur telle qu’aucun blanchisseur sur la terre ne peut blanchir de la sorte.
4 Elijah appeared to them with Moses; and they were talking to Jesus.	4 Alors Élie leur apparut, avec Moïse: les deux étaient en conversation avec Jésus.
5 Then Peter spoke to Jesus, 'Rabbi,' he said, 'it is wonderful for us to be here; so let us make threeshelters, one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah.'	5 Pierre prit la parole pour dire à Jésus: "Rabbi, cela tombe bien que nous soyons ici; nous allons dresser trois tentes: une pour toi, une pour Moïse et une pour Élie.”
6 He did not know what to say; they were so frightened.	6 En réalité, il ne savait plus que dire, car ils étaient effrayés.
7 And a cloud came, covering them in shadow; and from the cloud there came a voice, 'This is my Son,the Beloved. Listen to him.'	7 Une nuée survint alors qui les prit sous son ombre, et de la nuée se fit entendre une voix: "Celui-ci est mon Fils, le Bien-Aimé, écoutez-le!”
8 Then suddenly, when they looked round, they saw no one with them any more but only Jesus.	8 Et soudain, regardant autour d’eux, ils ne virent plus personne: seul Jésus était avec eux.
9 As they were coming down from the mountain he warned them to tel no one what they had seen, untilafter the Son of man had risen from the dead.	9 Comme ils descendaient de la montagne, Jésus leur ordonna de ne raconter à personne ce qu’ils avaient vu, jusqu’à ce que le Fils de l’Homme soit ressuscité d’entre les morts.
10 They observed the warning faithful y, though among themselves they discussed what 'rising from thedead' could mean.	10 Ils respectèrent cet ordre, mais entre eux ils se demandaient ce que c’était que ressusciter d’entre les morts.
11 And they put this question to him, 'Why do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?'	11 C’est alors qu’ils lui posèrent la question: "Pourquoi les maîtres de la Loi disent-ils que d’abord viendra Élie?”
12 He said to them, 'Elijah is indeed first coming to set everything right again; yet how is it that thescriptures say about the Son of man that he must suffer grievously and be treated with contempt?	12 Jésus leur répondit: "Bien sûr, d’abord vient Élie qui remet tout en ordre… mais comment est-il écrit du Fils de l’Homme qu’il doit souffrir beaucoup et être méprisé?
13 But I tel you that Elijah has come and they have treated him as they pleased, just as the scripturessay about him.'	13 Élie est bien revenu, et ils l’ont traité comme ils voulaient, selon ce qui est écrit de lui.”
14 As they were rejoining the disciples they saw a large crowd round them and some scribes arguing withthem.	14 Lorsqu’ils rejoignirent les disciples, ils virent tout un attroupement autour d’eux, et des maîtres de la Loi qui discutaient avec eux.
15 At once, when they saw him, the whole crowd were struck with amazement and ran to greet him.	15 Ce fut une surprise pour tout ce monde quand ils virent Jésus; ils coururent au-devant de lui pour le saluer.
16 And he asked them, 'What are you arguing about with them?'	16 Alors Jésus demande aux gens: "Qu’avez-vous à discuter avec eux?”
17 A man answered him from the crowd, 'Master, I have brought my son to you; there is a spirit ofdumbness in him,	17 De la foule un homme lui répond: "Maître, je t’ai amené mon fils qui est possédé d’un esprit muet.
18 and when it takes hold of him it throws him to the ground, and he foams at the mouth and grinds histeeth and goes rigid. And I asked your disciples to drive it out and they were unable to.'	18 Quand il s’empare de mon fils, il le déchire: l’enfant bave, grince des dents et devient tout raide. J’ai demandé à tes disciples de le faire sortir, mais ils n’ont pas été capables.”
19 In reply he said to them, 'Faithless generation, how much longer must I be among you? How muchlonger must I put up with you? Bring him to me.'	19 Jésus répond: "Gens sans foi, jusqu’à quand serai-je avec vous! Jusqu’à quand devrai-je vous supporter? Amenez-le moi.”
20 They brought the boy to him, and at once the spirit of dumbness threw the boy into convulsions, andhe fel to the ground and lay writhing there, foaming at the mouth.	20 Ils le lui amènent. À la vue de Jésus, l’esprit secoue l’enfant violemment, il tombe à terre et se roule en bavant.
21 Jesus asked the father, 'How long has this been happening to him?' 'From childhood,' he said,	21 Jésus interroge son père: "Depuis combien de temps cela lui arrive-t-il? Le père répond: "Depuis son enfance.
22 'and it has often thrown him into fire and into water, in order to destroy him.	22 Souvent même il l’a jeté dans le feu et dans l’eau: il pouvait le tuer. Aie pitié de nous, et si tu peux, viens à notre secours!”
23 But if you can do anything, have pity on us and help us.'	23 Jésus lui dit: "Si tu peux… Mais tout est possible pour celui qui croit!”
24 'If you can?' retorted Jesus. 'Everything is possible for one who has faith.' At once the father of the boycried out, 'I have faith. Help my lack of faith!'	24 Aussitôt le père de l’enfant s’écrie: "Je crois, mais viens en aide à mon manque de foi!”
25 And when Jesus saw that a crowd was gathering, he rebuked the unclean spirit. 'Deaf and dumbspirit,' he said, 'I command you: come out of him and never enter him again.'	25 Quand Jésus voit que les gens arrivent plus en nombre, il menace l’esprit impur: "Esprit muet et sourd, je te l’ordonne: sors de cet enfant et ne reviens plus jamais!”
26 Then it threw the boy into violent convulsions and came out shouting, and the boy lay there so like acorpse that most of them said, 'He is dead.'	26 À ce moment l’esprit pousse un cri, secoue violemment l’enfant et sort. L’enfant était resté comme mort, et plusieurs disaient: "Il est mort!”
27 But Jesus took him by the hand and helped him up, and he was able to stand.	27 Mais Jésus le prend par la main et le réveille: l’enfant se remet sur pied.
28 When he had gone indoors, his disciples asked him when they were by themselves, 'Why were weunable to drive it out?'	28 Jésus revient à la maison; quand ils sont seuls, ses disciples l’interrogent: "Pourquoi n’avons-nous pas pu le faire sortir?”
29 He answered, 'This is the kind that can be driven out only by prayer.'	29 Jésus leur répond: "Il n’y a que la prière pour faire sortir cette espèce-là.”
30 After leaving that place they made their way through Galilee; and he did not want anyone to know,	30 Ils quittèrent cet endroit, et ils allaient de place en place à travers la Galilée. Jésus ne voulait pas qu’on le sache,
31 because he was instructing his disciples; he was telling them, 'The Son of man wil be delivered intothe power of men; they will put him to death; and three days after he has been put to death he will rise again.'	31 car il était occupé à instruire ses disciples. Alors il leur dit: "Le Fils de l’Homme sera livré aux mains des hommes. Ils le tueront, et trois jours après sa mort il ressuscitera.”
32 But they did not understand what he said and were afraid to ask him.	32 Eux ne comprenaient pas cet avertissement, et ils avaient peur de lui en demander davantage.
33 They came to Capernaum, and when he got into the house he asked them, 'What were you arguingabout on the road?'	33 Ils arrivèrent à Capharnaüm. Une fois à la maison, Jésus les interrogea: "De quoi discutiez-vous en chemin?”
34 They said nothing, because on the road they had been arguing which of them was the greatest.	34 Ils se turent, car en chemin ils s’étaient disputés à propos de qui était le plus grand.
35 So he sat down, called the Twelve to him and said, 'If anyone wants to be first, he must make himselflast of all and servant of all.'	35 Alors Jésus s’assoit, il appelle les Douze et leur dit: "Si quelqu’un veut être le premier, qu’il soit le dernier de tous, qu’il soit le serviteur de tous.”
36 He then took a little child whom he set among them and embraced, and he said to them,	36 Puis il place au milieu d’eux un enfant, il l’embrasse et leur dit:
37 'Anyone who welcomes a little child such as this in my name, welcomes me; and anyone whowelcomes me, welcomes not me but the one who sent me.'	37 "Si quelqu’un reçoit en mon nom l’un de ces enfants, c’est moi qu’il reçoit; et celui qui me reçoit, ce n’est pas moi qu’il reçoit, mais celui qui m’a envoyé.”
38 John said to him, 'Master, we saw someone who is not one of us driving out devils in your name, andbecause he was not one of us we tried to stop him.'	38 Jean lui dit: "Maître, nous avons vu quelqu’un qui se servait de ton nom pour chasser les démons, et nous l’avons empêché car il n’est pas disciple avec nous.”
39 But Jesus said, 'You must not stop him; no one who works a miracle in my name could soonafterwards speak evil of me.	39 Jésus lui répond: "Ne l’empêchez pas! Car personne ne peut faire un miracle en mon nom et aussitôt après parler mal de moi.
40 Anyone who is not against us is for us.	40 “Celui qui n’est pas contre nous est pour nous.
41 'If anyone gives you a cup of water to drink because you belong to Christ, then in truth I tel you, he wilmost certainly not lose his reward.	41 Celui qui vous donne un verre d’eau parce que vous êtes disciples du Christ, je vous dis qu’il ne perdra pas sa récompense.”
42 'But anyone who is the downfal of one of these little ones who have faith, would be better thrown intothe sea with a great mil stone hung round his neck.	42 “Si quelqu’un devait faire chuter l’un de ces petits qui croient, mieux vaudrait pour lui qu’on lui attache au cou une meule de moulin et qu’on le jette dans la mer.
43 And if your hand should be your downfal , cut it off; it is better for you to enter into life crippled, than tohave two hands and go to hel , into the fire thatnever be put out.	43 “Si ta main doit te faire chuter, coupe-la! Mieux vaut pour toi entrer dans la vie avec une seule main, que t’en aller avec tes deux mains à la géhenne,
44	44 au feu qui ne s’éteint pas.
45 And if your foot should be your downfal , cut it off; it is better for you enter into life lame, than to havetwo feet and be thrown into hell.	45 “Et si ton pied doit te faire chuter, coupe-le! Mieux vaut pour toi entrer dans la vie avec un seul pied, qu’être jeté avec tes deux pieds dans la géhenne.

47 And if your eye should be your downfal , tear it out; it is better for you to enter into the kingdom of Godwith one eye, than to have two eyes and be thrown into hell	47 “Si ton œil doit te faire chuter, jette-le loin de toi! Mieux vaut pour toi entrer dans le Royaume de Dieu avec un seul œil que d’en avoir deux et d’être jeté dans la géhenne,
48 where their worm will never die nor their fire be put out.	48 où le ver ne meurt pas et où le feu ne s’éteint pas.
49 For everyone wil be salted with fire.	49 Car ce feu fera l’office du sel.
50 Salt is a good thing, but if salt has become insipid, how can you make it salty again? Have salt inyourselves and be at peace with one another.'	50 “Le sel est bon; mais si le sel n’est plus salé, comment lui redonnerez-vous du mordant? Ayez du sel en vous-mêmes et vivez en paix les uns avec les autres.”
