Mark 9

NEW JERUSALEM	JERUSALEM
1 And he said to them, 'In truth I tel you, there are some standing here who wil not taste death beforethey see the kingdom of God come with power.'	1 Et il leur disait: "En vérité je vous le dis, il en est d'ici présents qui ne goûteront pas la mort avantd'avoir vu le Royaume de Dieu venu avec puissance."
2 Six days later, Jesus took with him Peter and James and John and led them up a high mountain ontheir own by themselves. There in their presence he was transfigured:	2 Six jours après, Jésus prend avec lui Pierre, Jacques et Jean et les emmène seuls, à l'écart, sur unehaute montagne. Et il fut transfiguré devant eux
3 his clothes became brilliantly white, whiter than any earthly bleacher could make them.	3 et ses vêtements devinrent resplendissants, d'une telle blancheur qu'aucun foulon sur terre ne peutblanchir de la sorte.
4 Elijah appeared to them with Moses; and they were talking to Jesus.	4 Elie leur apparut avec Moïse et ils s'entretenaient avec Jésus.
5 Then Peter spoke to Jesus, 'Rabbi,' he said, 'it is wonderful for us to be here; so let us make threeshelters, one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah.'	5 Alors Pierre, prenant la parole, dit à Jésus: "Rabbi, il est heureux que nous soyons ici; faisons donctrois tentes, une pour toi, une pour Moïse et une pour Elie."
6 He did not know what to say; they were so frightened.	6 C'est qu'il ne savait que répondre, car ils étaient saisis de frayeur.
7 And a cloud came, covering them in shadow; and from the cloud there came a voice, 'This is my Son,the Beloved. Listen to him.'	7 Et une nuée survint qui les prit sous son ombre, et une voix partit de la nuée: "Celui-ci est mon Filsbien-aimé; écoutez-le."
8 Then suddenly, when they looked round, they saw no one with them any more but only Jesus.	8 Soudain, regardant autour d'eux, ils ne virent plus personne, que Jésus seul avec eux.
9 As they were coming down from the mountain he warned them to tel no one what they had seen, untilafter the Son of man had risen from the dead.	9 Comme ils descendaient de la montagne, il leur ordonna de ne raconter à personne ce qu'ils avaient vu,si ce n'est quand le Fils de l'homme serait ressuscité d'entre les morts.
10 They observed the warning faithful y, though among themselves they discussed what 'rising from thedead' could mean.	10 Ils gardèrent la recommandation, tout en se demandant entre eux ce que signifiait "ressusciter d'entreles morts."
11 And they put this question to him, 'Why do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?'	11 Et ils lui posaient cette question: "Pourquoi les scribes disent-ils qu'Elie doit venir d'abord?"
12 He said to them, 'Elijah is indeed first coming to set everything right again; yet how is it that thescriptures say about the Son of man that he must suffer grievously and be treated with contempt?	12 Il leur dit: "Oui, Elie doit venir d'abord et tout remettre en ordre. Et comment est-il écrit du Fils del'homme qu'il doit beaucoup souffrir et être méprisé?
13 But I tel you that Elijah has come and they have treated him as they pleased, just as the scripturessay about him.'	13 Mais je vous le dis: Elie est bien déjà venu et ils l'ont traité à leur guise, comme il est écrit de lui."
14 As they were rejoining the disciples they saw a large crowd round them and some scribes arguing withthem.	14 En rejoignant les disciples, ils virent une foule nombreuse qui les entourait et des scribes quidiscutaient avec eux.
15 At once, when they saw him, the whole crowd were struck with amazement and ran to greet him.	15 Et aussitôt qu'elle l'aperçut, toute la foule fut très surprise et ils accoururent pour le saluer.
16 And he asked them, 'What are you arguing about with them?'	16 Et il leur demanda: "De quoi disputez-vous avec eux?"
17 A man answered him from the crowd, 'Master, I have brought my son to you; there is a spirit ofdumbness in him,	17 Quelqu'un de la foule lui dit: "Maître, je t'ai apporté mon fils qui a un esprit muet.
18 and when it takes hold of him it throws him to the ground, and he foams at the mouth and grinds histeeth and goes rigid. And I asked your disciples to drive it out and they were unable to.'	18 Quand il le saisit, il le jette à terre, et il écume, grince des dents et devient raide. Et j'ai dit à tesdisciples de l'expulser et ils n'en ont pas été capables" --
19 In reply he said to them, 'Faithless generation, how much longer must I be among you? How muchlonger must I put up with you? Bring him to me.'	19 "Engeance incrédule, leur répond-il, jusques à quand serai-je auprès de vous? Jusques à quand voussupporterai-je? Apportez-le-moi."
20 They brought the boy to him, and at once the spirit of dumbness threw the boy into convulsions, andhe fel to the ground and lay writhing there, foaming at the mouth.	20 Et ils le lui apportèrent. Sitôt qu'il vit Jésus, l'esprit secoua violemment l'enfant qui tomba à terre et ils'y roulait en écumant.
21 Jesus asked the father, 'How long has this been happening to him?' 'From childhood,' he said,	21 Et Jésus demanda au père: "Combien de temps y a-t-il que cela lui arrive" - "Depuis son enfance, dit-il;
22 'and it has often thrown him into fire and into water, in order to destroy him.	22 et souvent il l'a jeté soit dans le feu soit dans l'eau pour le faire périr. Mais si tu peux quelque chose,viens à notre aide, par pitié pour nous" --
23 But if you can do anything, have pity on us and help us.'	23 "Si tu peux!... reprit Jésus; tout est possible à celui qui croit."
24 'If you can?' retorted Jesus. 'Everything is possible for one who has faith.' At once the father of the boycried out, 'I have faith. Help my lack of faith!'	24 Aussitôt le père de l'enfant de s'écrier: "Je crois! Viens en aide à mon peu de foi!"
25 And when Jesus saw that a crowd was gathering, he rebuked the unclean spirit. 'Deaf and dumbspirit,' he said, 'I command you: come out of him and never enter him again.'	25 Jésus, voyant qu'une foule affluait, menaça l'esprit impur en lui disant: "Esprit muet et sourd, je tel'ordonne, sors de lui et n'y rentre plus."
26 Then it threw the boy into violent convulsions and came out shouting, and the boy lay there so like acorpse that most of them said, 'He is dead.'	26 Après avoir crié et l'avoir violemment secoué, il sortit, et l'enfant devint comme mort, si bien que laplupart disaient: "Il a trépassé!"
27 But Jesus took him by the hand and helped him up, and he was able to stand.	27 Mais Jésus, le prenant par la main, le releva et il se tint debout.
28 When he had gone indoors, his disciples asked him when they were by themselves, 'Why were weunable to drive it out?'	28 Quand il fut rentré à la maison, ses disciples lui demandaient dans le privé: "Pourquoi nous autres,n'avons-nous pu l'expulser?"
29 He answered, 'This is the kind that can be driven out only by prayer.'	29 Il leur dit: "Cette espèce-là ne peut sortir que par la prière."
30 After leaving that place they made their way through Galilee; and he did not want anyone to know,	30 Etant partis de là, ils faisaient route à travers la Galilée et il ne voulait pas qu'on le sût.
31 because he was instructing his disciples; he was telling them, 'The Son of man wil be delivered intothe power of men; they will put him to death; and three days after he has been put to death he will rise again.'	31 Car il instruisait ses disciples et il leur disait: "Le Fils de l'homme est livré aux mains des hommes etils le tueront, et quand il aura été tué, après trois jours il ressuscitera."
32 But they did not understand what he said and were afraid to ask him.	32 Mais ils ne comprenaient pas cette parole et ils craignaient de l'interroger.
33 They came to Capernaum, and when he got into the house he asked them, 'What were you arguingabout on the road?'	33 Ils vinrent à Capharnaüm; et, une fois à la maison, il leur demandait: "De quoi discutiez-vous enchemin?"
34 They said nothing, because on the road they had been arguing which of them was the greatest.	34 Eux se taisaient, car en chemin ils avaient discuté entre eux qui était le plus grand.
35 So he sat down, called the Twelve to him and said, 'If anyone wants to be first, he must make himselflast of all and servant of all.'	35 Alors, s'étant assis, il appela les Douze et leur dit: "Si quelqu'un veut être le premier, il sera le dernierde tous et le serviteur de tous."
36 He then took a little child whom he set among them and embraced, and he said to them,	36 Puis, prenant un petit enfant, il le plaça au milieu d'eux et, l'ayant embrassé, il leur dit:
37 'Anyone who welcomes a little child such as this in my name, welcomes me; and anyone whowelcomes me, welcomes not me but the one who sent me.'	37 "Quiconque accueille un des petits enfants tels que lui à cause de mon nom, c'est moi qu'il accueille;et quiconque m'accueille, ce n'est pas moi qu'il accueille, mais Celui qui m'a envoyé."
38 John said to him, 'Master, we saw someone who is not one of us driving out devils in your name, andbecause he was not one of us we tried to stop him.'	38 Jean lui dit: "Maître, nous avons vu quelqu'un expulser des démons en ton nom, quelqu'un qui nenous suit pas, et nous voulions l'empêcher, parce qu'il ne nous suivait pas."
39 But Jesus said, 'You must not stop him; no one who works a miracle in my name could soonafterwards speak evil of me.	39 Mais Jésus dit: "Ne l'en empêchez pas, car il n'est personne qui puisse faire un miracle en invoquantmon nom et sitôt après parler mal de moi.
40 Anyone who is not against us is for us.	40 Qui n'est pas contre nous est pour nous.
41 'If anyone gives you a cup of water to drink because you belong to Christ, then in truth I tel you, he wilmost certainly not lose his reward.	41 "Quiconque vous donnera à boire un verre d'eau pour ce motif que vous êtes au Christ, en vérité, jevous le dis, il ne perdra pas sa récompense.
42 'But anyone who is the downfal of one of these little ones who have faith, would be better thrown intothe sea with a great mil stone hung round his neck.	42 "Mais si quelqu'un doit scandaliser l'un de ces petits qui croient, il serait mieux pour lui de se voirpasser autour du cou une de ces meules que tournent les ânes et d'être jeté à la mer.
43 And if your hand should be your downfal , cut it off; it is better for you to enter into life crippled, than tohave two hands and go to hel , into the fire thatnever be put out.	43 Et si ta main est pour toi une occasion de péché, coupe-la: mieux vaut pour toi entrer manchot dans laVie que de t'en aller avec tes deux mains dans la géhenne, dans le feu qui ne s'éteint pas.
44
45 And if your foot should be your downfal , cut it off; it is better for you enter into life lame, than to havetwo feet and be thrown into hell.	45 Et si ton pied est pour toi une occasion de péché, coupe-le: mieux vaut pour toi entrer estropié dans laVie que d'être jeté avec tes deux pieds dans la géhenne.
46
47 And if your eye should be your downfal , tear it out; it is better for you to enter into the kingdom of Godwith one eye, than to have two eyes and be thrown into hell	47 Et si ton oeil est pour toi une occasion de péché, arrache-le: mieux vaut pour toi entrer borgne dans leRoyaume de Dieu que d'être jeté avec tes deux yeux dans la géhenne
48 where their worm will never die nor their fire be put out.	48 où leur ver ne meurt point et où le feu ne s'éteint point.
49 For everyone wil be salted with fire.	49 Car tous seront salés par le feu.
50 Salt is a good thing, but if salt has become insipid, how can you make it salty again? Have salt inyourselves and be at peace with one another.'	50 C'est une bonne chose que le sel; mais si le sel devient insipide, avec quoi l'assaisonnerez-vous?Ayez du sel en vous-mêmes et vivez en paix les uns avec les autres."
