NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 And he said to them, 'In truth I tel you, there are some standing here who wil not taste death beforethey see the kingdom of God come with power.'	1 Diceva ancora loro: "In verità vi dico che vi sono qui alcuni dei presenti, i quali non subiranno la morte finché non avranno veduto il regno di Dio venuto con potenza".
2 Six days later, Jesus took with him Peter and James and John and led them up a high mountain ontheir own by themselves. There in their presence he was transfigured:	2 Sei giorni dopo Gesù prese con sé Pietro, Giacomo e Giovanni e li condusse in disparte, essi soli, su un alto monte, dove si trasfigurò davanti a loro.
3 his clothes became brilliantly white, whiter than any earthly bleacher could make them.	3 Le sue vesti divennero splendenti e talmente candide, che nessun lavandaio sulla terra potrebbe renderle così candide.
4 Elijah appeared to them with Moses; and they were talking to Jesus.	4 Ed apparve loro Elia con Mosè, i quali conversavano con Gesù.
5 Then Peter spoke to Jesus, 'Rabbi,' he said, 'it is wonderful for us to be here; so let us make threeshelters, one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah.'	5 Allora Pietro, prendendo la parola, disse a Gesù: "Maestro, è bello per noi stare qui! Facciamo tre tende: una per te, una per Mosè e una per Elia".
6 He did not know what to say; they were so frightened.	6 In realtà egli non sapeva quel che diceva, poiché erano stati presi dal timore.
7 And a cloud came, covering them in shadow; and from the cloud there came a voice, 'This is my Son,the Beloved. Listen to him.'	7 Allora comparve una nuvola che li avvolse nella sua ombra e dalla nuvola si sentì una voce: "Questi è il mio Figlio diletto: ascoltatelo!".
8 Then suddenly, when they looked round, they saw no one with them any more but only Jesus.	8 Ed essi, tutto a un tratto, guardandosi attorno, non videro più alcuno, se non il solo Gesù, che era con loro.
9 As they were coming down from the mountain he warned them to tel no one what they had seen, untilafter the Son of man had risen from the dead.	9 Quando poi discesero dal monte, Gesù comandò loro di non raccontare a nessuno ciò che avevano visto, fino a quando il Figlio dell'uomo non fosse risuscitato dai morti.
10 They observed the warning faithful y, though among themselves they discussed what 'rising from thedead' could mean.	10 Essi osservarono l'ordine, ma intanto si chiedevano tra loro che cosa significasse quel risorgere dai morti.
11 And they put this question to him, 'Why do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?'	11 Quindi lo interrogarono: "Perché gli scribi dicono che prima deve venire Elia?".
12 He said to them, 'Elijah is indeed first coming to set everything right again; yet how is it that thescriptures say about the Son of man that he must suffer grievously and be treated with contempt?	12 Rispose loro: "Certo, verrà prima Elia e rimetterà a posto ogni cosa. Ma come sta scritto del Figlio dell'uomo, egli dovrà soffrire molto ed essere disprezzato.
13 But I tel you that Elijah has come and they have treated him as they pleased, just as the scripturessay about him.'	13 Io, però, vi dico che Elia è già venuto e gli hanno fatto tutto ciò che hanno voluto, secondo quanto di lui sta scritto".
14 As they were rejoining the disciples they saw a large crowd round them and some scribes arguing withthem.	14 Raggiunti gli altri discepoli, videro intorno ad essi una grande folla e gli scribi che discutevano con loro.
15 At once, when they saw him, the whole crowd were struck with amazement and ran to greet him.	15 Non appena lo scorsero, quelli della folla restarono tutti meravigliati e corsero a salutarlo.
16 And he asked them, 'What are you arguing about with them?'	16 Allora egli domandò loro: "Di che state discutendo con loro?".
17 A man answered him from the crowd, 'Master, I have brought my son to you; there is a spirit ofdumbness in him,	17 Gli rispose uno della folla: "Maestro, ti ho portato mio figlio, che è posseduto da uno spirito muto,
18 and when it takes hold of him it throws him to the ground, and he foams at the mouth and grinds histeeth and goes rigid. And I asked your disciples to drive it out and they were unable to.'	18 il quale, quando lo afferra, lo sbatte di là e di qua ed egli emette schiuma, digrigna i denti e poi diventa rigido. Ho chiesto ai tuoi discepoli di scacciarlo, ma non ci sono riusciti".
19 In reply he said to them, 'Faithless generation, how much longer must I be among you? How muchlonger must I put up with you? Bring him to me.'	19 Allora egli disse loro: "Generazione incredula! Fino a quando dovrò restare tra voi? Fino a quando dovrò sopportarvi? Portatelo qui da me!".
20 They brought the boy to him, and at once the spirit of dumbness threw the boy into convulsions, andhe fel to the ground and lay writhing there, foaming at the mouth.	20 Glielo portarono; ma lo spirito, non appena lo vide, subito agitò il ragazzo, il quale cadde a terra e vi si rotolava con la bava alla bocca.
21 Jesus asked the father, 'How long has this been happening to him?' 'From childhood,' he said,	21 Allora egli domandò al padre di lui: "Da quanto tempo gli succede questo?". Rispose: "Fin dall'infanzia.
22 'and it has often thrown him into fire and into water, in order to destroy him.	22 Molte volte lo ha gettato anche sul fuoco e nell'acqua per farlo morire. Ma ora, se tu puoi fare qualche cosa, abbi pietà di noi e aiutaci!".
23 But if you can do anything, have pity on us and help us.'	23 Gli disse Gesù: "Se puoi...? Tutto è possibile a chi crede!".
24 'If you can?' retorted Jesus. 'Everything is possible for one who has faith.' At once the father of the boycried out, 'I have faith. Help my lack of faith!'	24 Subito il padre del ragazzo ad alta voce disse: "Io credo, ma tu aiuta la mia incredulità".
25 And when Jesus saw that a crowd was gathering, he rebuked the unclean spirit. 'Deaf and dumbspirit,' he said, 'I command you: come out of him and never enter him again.'	25 Gesù, allora, vedendo che la folla accorreva, con tono minaccioso disse allo spirito immondo: "Spirito muto e sordo, io te lo ordino: esci da costui e non rientrarci più!".
26 Then it threw the boy into violent convulsions and came out shouting, and the boy lay there so like acorpse that most of them said, 'He is dead.'	26 Quello, urlando e scuotendolo con violenza, ne uscì, lasciandolo come morto, sicché molti dicevano: "E' morto!".
27 But Jesus took him by the hand and helped him up, and he was able to stand.	27 Gesù, però, prendendolo per mano, lo sollevò ed egli stette in piedi.
28 When he had gone indoors, his disciples asked him when they were by themselves, 'Why were weunable to drive it out?'	28 Quando in seguito fu rientrato in casa, i suoi discepoli gli domandarono in disparte: "Perché noi non siamo riusciti a scacciarlo?".
29 He answered, 'This is the kind that can be driven out only by prayer.'	29 Rispose loro: "Questo genere di demòni non può essere scacciato con nessun altro mezzo, se non con la preghiera".
30 After leaving that place they made their way through Galilee; and he did not want anyone to know,	30 Partiti di là, andavano attraverso la Galilea, ma egli non voleva che alcuno lo sapesse.
31 because he was instructing his disciples; he was telling them, 'The Son of man wil be delivered intothe power of men; they will put him to death; and three days after he has been put to death he will rise again.'	31 Infatti, stava ammaestrando i suoi discepoli e diceva loro: "Il Figlio dell'uomo sarà consegnato nelle mani degli uomini, che lo uccideranno; ma, ucciso, dopo tre giorni risorgerà".
32 But they did not understand what he said and were afraid to ask him.	32 Essi, però, non compresero tali parole e avevano paura di interrogarlo.
33 They came to Capernaum, and when he got into the house he asked them, 'What were you arguingabout on the road?'	33 Giunsero a Cafarnao e quando fu in casa domandò loro: "Di che cosa discutevate per via?".
34 They said nothing, because on the road they had been arguing which of them was the greatest.	34 Essi, però, tacquero, perché per via avevano discusso tra loro su chi fosse il più grande.
35 So he sat down, called the Twelve to him and said, 'If anyone wants to be first, he must make himselflast of all and servant of all.'	35 Allora, postosi a sedere, chiamò i Dodici e disse loro: "Se uno vuole essere primo, sia ultimo di tutti e servo di tutti".
36 He then took a little child whom he set among them and embraced, and he said to them,	36 Quindi, preso un bambino, lo pose in mezzo a loro e stringendolo fra le braccia disse loro:
37 'Anyone who welcomes a little child such as this in my name, welcomes me; and anyone whowelcomes me, welcomes not me but the one who sent me.'	37 "Chi accoglie uno di questi bambini in nome mio, accoglie me e chi accoglie me non accoglie me, ma colui che mi ha mandato".
38 John said to him, 'Master, we saw someone who is not one of us driving out devils in your name, andbecause he was not one of us we tried to stop him.'	38 Gli disse Giovanni: "Maestro, abbiamo visto un tale scacciare i demòni nel tuo nome e glielo abbiamo proibito, perché egli non viene insieme a noi".
39 But Jesus said, 'You must not stop him; no one who works a miracle in my name could soonafterwards speak evil of me.	39 Gli rispose Gesù: "Non glielo proibite, poiché non c'è nessuno che operi un miracolo in mio nome, il quale possa subito dopo parlare male di me.
40 Anyone who is not against us is for us.	40 Infatti chi non è contro di noi, è per noi.
41 'If anyone gives you a cup of water to drink because you belong to Christ, then in truth I tel you, he wilmost certainly not lose his reward.	41 Poiché chi vi darà da bere un bicchiere d'acqua nel mio nome perché siete di Cristo, in verità vi dico che non perderà la sua ricompensa".
42 'But anyone who is the downfal of one of these little ones who have faith, would be better thrown intothe sea with a great mil stone hung round his neck.	42 "Chi poi avrà scandalizzato uno di questi piccoli che credono, sarebbe meglio per lui che gli si appendesse al collo una pietra da mulino e fosse gettato in mare.
43 And if your hand should be your downfal , cut it off; it is better for you to enter into life crippled, than tohave two hands and go to hel , into the fire thatnever be put out.	43 Ché, se la tua mano ti è di scandalo, tàgliala! E' meglio per te entrare monco nella vita, che andare con tutte e due le mani nella Geenna, nel fuoco inestinguibile.
44
45 And if your foot should be your downfal , cut it off; it is better for you enter into life lame, than to havetwo feet and be thrown into hell.	45 Parimenti, se il tuo piede ti è di scandalo, tàglialo! E' meglio per te entrare zoppo nella vita, che essere gettato con tutti e due i piedi nella Geenna.
46
47 And if your eye should be your downfal , tear it out; it is better for you to enter into the kingdom of Godwith one eye, than to have two eyes and be thrown into hell	47 Ancora: se il tuo occhio ti è di scandalo, càvalo! E' meglio per te entrare con un occhio solo nel regno di Dio, che essere gettato con tutti e due gli occhi nella Geenna,
48 where their worm will never die nor their fire be put out.	48 dove il loro verme non muore e il fuoco non si estingue.
49 For everyone wil be salted with fire.	49 Poiché si dovrà essere tutti salati con il fuoco.
50 Salt is a good thing, but if salt has become insipid, how can you make it salty again? Have salt inyourselves and be at peace with one another.'	50 Il sale è cosa buona, ma se il sale diventa insipido, con che cosa gli ridarete sapore? Abbiate sale in voi stessi e state in pace gli uni con gli altri".
