NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLIA
1 And he said to them, 'In truth I tel you, there are some standing here who wil not taste death beforethey see the kingdom of God come with power.'	1 Les decía también: «Yo os aseguro que entre los aquí presentes hay algunos que no gustarán la muerte hasta que vean venir con poder el Reino de Dios».
2 Six days later, Jesus took with him Peter and James and John and led them up a high mountain ontheir own by themselves. There in their presence he was transfigured:	2 Seis días después, toma Jesús consigo a Pedro, Santiago y Juan, y los lleva, a ellos solos, aparte, a un monte alto. Y se transfiguró delante de ellos,
3 his clothes became brilliantly white, whiter than any earthly bleacher could make them.	3 y sus vestidos se volvieron resplandecientes, muy blancos, tanto que ningún batanero en la tierra sería capaz de blanquearlos de ese modo.
4 Elijah appeared to them with Moses; and they were talking to Jesus.	4 Se les aparecieron Elías y Moisés, y conversaban con Jesús.
5 Then Peter spoke to Jesus, 'Rabbi,' he said, 'it is wonderful for us to be here; so let us make threeshelters, one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah.'	5 Toma la palabra Pedro y dice a Jesús: «Rabbí, bueno es estarnos aquí. Vamos a hacer tres tiendas, una para ti, otra para Moisés y otra para Elías»;
6 He did not know what to say; they were so frightened.	6 - pues no sabía qué responder ya que estaban atemorizados -.
7 And a cloud came, covering them in shadow; and from the cloud there came a voice, 'This is my Son,the Beloved. Listen to him.'	7 Entonces se formó una nube que les cubrió con su sombra, y vino una voz desde la nube: «Este es mi Hijo amado, escuchadle».
8 Then suddenly, when they looked round, they saw no one with them any more but only Jesus.	8 Y de pronto, mirando en derredor, ya no vieron a nadie más que a Jesús solo con ellos.
9 As they were coming down from the mountain he warned them to tel no one what they had seen, untilafter the Son of man had risen from the dead.	9 Y cuando bajaban del monte les ordenó que a nadie contasen lo que habían visto hasta que el Hijo del hombre resucitara de entre los muertos.
10 They observed the warning faithful y, though among themselves they discussed what 'rising from thedead' could mean.	10 Ellos observaron esta recomendación, discutiendo entre sí qué era eso de «resucitar de entre los muertos».
11 And they put this question to him, 'Why do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?'	11 Y le preguntaban: «¿Por qué dicen los escribas que Elías debe venir primero?»
12 He said to them, 'Elijah is indeed first coming to set everything right again; yet how is it that thescriptures say about the Son of man that he must suffer grievously and be treated with contempt?	12 El les contestó: «Elías vendrá primero y restablecerá todo; mas, ¿cómo está escrito del Hijo del hombre que sufrirá mucho y que será despreciado?
13 But I tel you that Elijah has come and they have treated him as they pleased, just as the scripturessay about him.'	13 Pues bien, yo os digo: Elías ha venido ya y han hecho con él cuanto han querido, según estaba escrito de él».
14 As they were rejoining the disciples they saw a large crowd round them and some scribes arguing withthem.	14 Al llegar donde los discípulos, vio a mucha gente que les rodeaba y a unos escribas que discutían con ellos.
15 At once, when they saw him, the whole crowd were struck with amazement and ran to greet him.	15 Toda la gente, al verle, quedó sorprendida y corrieron a saludarle.
16 And he asked them, 'What are you arguing about with them?'	16 El les preguntó: «¿De qué discutís con ellos?»
17 A man answered him from the crowd, 'Master, I have brought my son to you; there is a spirit ofdumbness in him,	17 Uno de entre la gente le respondió: «Maestro, te he traído a mi hijo que tiene un espíritu mudo
18 and when it takes hold of him it throws him to the ground, and he foams at the mouth and grinds histeeth and goes rigid. And I asked your disciples to drive it out and they were unable to.'	18 y, dondequiera que se apodera de él, le derriba, le hace echar espurnarajos, rechinar de dientes y le deja rígido. He dicho a tus discípulos que lo expulsaran, pero no han podido».
19 In reply he said to them, 'Faithless generation, how much longer must I be among you? How muchlonger must I put up with you? Bring him to me.'	19 El les responde: «¡Oh generación incrédula! ¿Hasta cuándo estaré con vosotros? ¿Hasta cuándo habré de soportaros? ¡Traédmelo!»
20 They brought the boy to him, and at once the spirit of dumbness threw the boy into convulsions, andhe fel to the ground and lay writhing there, foaming at the mouth.	20 Y se lo trajeron. Apenas el espíritu vio a Jesús, agitó violentamente al muchacho y, cayendo en tierra, se revolcaba echando espumarajos.
21 Jesus asked the father, 'How long has this been happening to him?' 'From childhood,' he said,	21 Entonces él preguntó a su padre: «¿Cuánto tiempo hace que le viene sucediendo esto?» Le dijo: «Desde niño.
22 'and it has often thrown him into fire and into water, in order to destroy him.	22 Y muchas veces le ha arrojado al fuego y al agua para acabar con él; pero, si algo puedes, ayúdanos, compadécete de nosotros».
23 But if you can do anything, have pity on us and help us.'	23 Jesús le dijo: «¡Qué es eso de si puedes! ¡Todo es posible para quien cree!»
24 'If you can?' retorted Jesus. 'Everything is possible for one who has faith.' At once the father of the boycried out, 'I have faith. Help my lack of faith!'	24 Al instante, gritó el padre del muchacho: «¡Creo, ayuda a mi poca fe!»
25 And when Jesus saw that a crowd was gathering, he rebuked the unclean spirit. 'Deaf and dumbspirit,' he said, 'I command you: come out of him and never enter him again.'	25 Viendo Jesús que se agolpaba la gente, increpó al espíritu inmundo, diciéndole: «Espíritu sordo y mudo, yo te lo mando: sal de él y no entres más en él».
26 Then it threw the boy into violent convulsions and came out shouting, and the boy lay there so like acorpse that most of them said, 'He is dead.'	26 Y el espíritu salió dando gritos y agitándole con violencia. El muchacho quedó como muerto, hasta el punto de que muchos decían que había muerto.
27 But Jesus took him by the hand and helped him up, and he was able to stand.	27 Pero Jesús, tomándole de la mano, le levantó y él se puso en pie.
28 When he had gone indoors, his disciples asked him when they were by themselves, 'Why were weunable to drive it out?'	28 Cuando Jesús entró en casa, le preguntaban en privado sus discípulos: «¿Por qué nosotros no pudimos expulsarle?»
29 He answered, 'This is the kind that can be driven out only by prayer.'	29 Les dijo: «Esta clase con nada puede ser arrojada sino con la oración».
30 After leaving that place they made their way through Galilee; and he did not want anyone to know,	30 Y saliendo de allí, iban caminando por Galilea; él no quería que se supiera,
31 because he was instructing his disciples; he was telling them, 'The Son of man wil be delivered intothe power of men; they will put him to death; and three days after he has been put to death he will rise again.'	31 porque iba enseñando a sus discípulos. Les decía: «El Hijo del hombre será entregado en manos de los hombres; le matarán y a los tres días de haber muerto resucitará».
32 But they did not understand what he said and were afraid to ask him.	32 Pero ellos no entendían lo que les decía y temían preguntarle.
33 They came to Capernaum, and when he got into the house he asked them, 'What were you arguingabout on the road?'	33 Llegaron a Cafarnaúm, y una vez en casa, les preguntaba: «¿De qué discutíais por el camino?»
34 They said nothing, because on the road they had been arguing which of them was the greatest.	34 Ellos callaron, pues por el camino habían discutido entre sí quién era el mayor.
35 So he sat down, called the Twelve to him and said, 'If anyone wants to be first, he must make himselflast of all and servant of all.'	35 Entonces se sentó, llamó a los Doce, y les dijo: «Si uno quiere ser el primero, sea el último de todos y el servidor de todos».
36 He then took a little child whom he set among them and embraced, and he said to them,	36 Y tomando un niño, le puso en medio de ellos, le estrechó entre sus brazos y les dijo:
37 'Anyone who welcomes a little child such as this in my name, welcomes me; and anyone whowelcomes me, welcomes not me but the one who sent me.'	37 «El que reciba a un niño como éste en mi nombre, a mí me recibe; y el que me reciba a mí, no me recibe a mí sino a Aquel que me ha enviado».
38 John said to him, 'Master, we saw someone who is not one of us driving out devils in your name, andbecause he was not one of us we tried to stop him.'	38 Juan le dijo: «Maestro, hemos visto a uno que expulsaba demonios en tu nombre y no viene con nosotros y tratamos de impedírselo porque no venía con nosotros».
39 But Jesus said, 'You must not stop him; no one who works a miracle in my name could soonafterwards speak evil of me.	39 Pero Jesús dijo: «No se lo impidáis, pues no hay nadie que obre un milagro invocando mi nombre y que luego sea capaz de hablar mal de mí.
40 Anyone who is not against us is for us.	40 Pues el que no está contra nosotros, está por nosotros».
41 'If anyone gives you a cup of water to drink because you belong to Christ, then in truth I tel you, he wilmost certainly not lose his reward.	41 «Todo aquel que os dé de beber un vaso de agua por el hecho de que sois de Cristo, os aseguro que no perderá su recompensa».
42 'But anyone who is the downfal of one of these little ones who have faith, would be better thrown intothe sea with a great mil stone hung round his neck.	42 «Y al que escandalice a uno de estos pequeños que creen, mejor le es que le pongan al cuello una de esas piedras de molino que mueven los asnos y que le echen al mar.
43 And if your hand should be your downfal , cut it off; it is better for you to enter into life crippled, than tohave two hands and go to hel , into the fire thatnever be put out.	43 Y si tu mano te es ocasión de pecado, córtatela. Más vale que entres manco en la Vida que, con las dos manos, ir a la gehenna, al fuego que no se apaga.
44
45 And if your foot should be your downfal , cut it off; it is better for you enter into life lame, than to havetwo feet and be thrown into hell.	45 Y si tu pie te es ocasión de pecado, córtatelo. Más vale que entres cojo en la Vida que, con los dos pies, ser arrojado a la gehenna.
46
47 And if your eye should be your downfal , tear it out; it is better for you to enter into the kingdom of Godwith one eye, than to have two eyes and be thrown into hell	47 Y si tu ojo te es ocasión de pecado, sácatelo. Más vale que entres con un solo ojo en el Reino de Dios que, con los dos ojos, ser arrojado a la gehenna,
48 where their worm will never die nor their fire be put out.	48 donde su gusano no muere y el fuego no se apaga;
49 For everyone wil be salted with fire.	49 pues todos han de ser salados con fuego.
50 Salt is a good thing, but if salt has become insipid, how can you make it salty again? Have salt inyourselves and be at peace with one another.'	50 Buena es la sal; mas si la sal se vuelve insípida, ¿con qué la sazonaréis? Tened sal en vosotros y tened paz unos con otros».
