1 Again he began to teach them by the lakeside, but such a huge crowd gathered round him that he gotinto a boat on the water and sat there. The whole crowd were at the lakeside on land.	1 Ricominciò poi ad insegnare vicino al mare, e gli si radunò intorno gran folla, di modo che egli montato su una barca stava sul mare, mentre tutta la folla stava sulla riva.
2 He taught them many things in parables, and in the course of his teaching he said to them,	2 Ed egli insegnava loro molte cose in parabole, e diceva loro ammaestrandoli:
3 'Listen! Imagine a sower going out to sow.	3 Udite: ecco, andò il seminatore a seminare,
4 Now it happened that, as he sowed, some of the seed fell on the edge of the path, and the birds cameand ate it up.	4 e mentre gettava il seme, parte ne cadde lungo la strada, e vennero gli uccelli del cielo e se lo beccarono.
5 Some seed fell on rocky ground where it found little soil and at once sprang up, because there was nodepth of earth;	5 Altro cadde in luoghi sassosi, ove non trovò terra sufficiente e, subito spuntò, non avendo profondità di terreno;
6 and when the sun came up it was scorched and, not having any roots, it withered away.	6 ma levatosi il sole, riarse, e siccome non aveva radice, seccò.
7 Some seed fell into thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked it, and it produced no crop.	7 Altro cadde tra le spine e le spine crebbero e lo soffocarono e non diè frutto.
8 And some seeds fell into rich soil, grew tal and strong, and produced a good crop; the yield was thirty,sixty, even a hundredfold.'	8 Altro finalmente, cadde in buona terra e portò frutto che venne su rigoglioso e giunse a dare ove il trenta, ove il sessanta e ove il cento.
9 And he said, 'Anyone who has ears for listening should listen!'	9 E diceva: Chi ha orecchi da intendere intenda.
10 When he was alone, the Twelve, together with the others who formed his company, asked what theparables meant.	10 Or quando fu solo, i dodici che eran con lui lo interrogarono intorno alla parabola.
11 He told them, 'To you is granted the secret of the kingdom of God, but to those who are outsideeverything comes in parables,	11 Ed egli disse loro: A voi è dato di conoscere il mistero del regno di Dio; ma con quelli di fuori tutto si fa per via di parabole;
12 so that they may look and look, but never perceive; listen and listen, but never understand; to avoidchanging their ways and being healed.'	12 affinchè guardando vedano e non discernano e ascoltando odano e non comprendano; onde non avvenga che si convertano e siano rimessi i loro peccati.
13 He said to them, 'Do you not understand this parable? Then how will you understand any of theparables?	13 E disse loro: Non intendete questa parabola? Come allora comprenderete tutte le altre?
14 What the sower is sowing is the word.	14 Il seminatore semina la Parola.
15 Those on the edge of the path where the word is sown are people who have no sooner heard it thanSatan at once comes and carries away the word that was sown in them.	15 Or quelli che ricevono il seme lungo la strada sono coloro nei quali è seminata la Parola; ma appena l'hanno udita, subito viene satana e porta via la Parola in loro seminata.
16 Similarly, those who are sown on patches of rock are people who, when first they hear the word,welcome it at once with joy.	16 Parimenti, quelli che l'han ricevuto in luoghi sassosi, son coloro che, udita la Parola, subito la ricevono con allegrezza,
17 But they have no root deep down and do not last; should some trial come, or some persecution onaccount of the word, at once they fal away.	17 ma, non avendo in sè radice, son del momento; e poi quando incontrino tribolazione o persecuzione a causa della Parola, subito si scandalizzano.
18 Then there are others who are sown in thorns. These have heard the word,	18 Gli altri che lo ricevono tra le spine son quelli che ascoltano la Parola,
19 but the worries of the world, the lure of riches and al the other passions come in to choke the word,and so it produces nothing.	19 ma le cure mondane e l'inganno delle ricchezze e la cupidigia delle altre cose, penetrando in loro, soffocano la Parola, che rimane così infruttuosa.
20 And there are those who have been sown in rich soil; they hear the word and accept it and yield aharvest, thirty and sixty and a hundredfold.'	20 E quelli che ricevono il seme in buon terreno son coloro che ascoltano la Parola e l'accolgono e portati frutto, chi il trenta, chi il sessanta e chi il cento.
21 He also said to them, 'Is a lamp brought in to be put under a tub or under the bed? Surely to be put onthe lamp-stand?	21 E diceva loro: Che forse vien accesala lucerna per essere messa sotto il moggio o sotto il letto? non forse per essere posta sul candeliere?
22 For there is nothing hidden, but it must be disclosed, nothing kept secret except to be brought to light.	22 Non c'è infatti nulla di nascosto che non venga a manifestarsi, e nulla è stato occultato, se non per essere poi messo alla luce.
23 Anyone who has ears for listening should listen!'	23 Chi ha orecchi da intendere intenda.
24 He also said to them, 'Take notice of what you are hearing. The standard you use wil be used for you-- and you wil receive more besides;	24 Diceva pur loro: Badate a ciò che udite. Con la misura con la quale misurate, vi sarà rimisurato e con giunta.
25 anyone who has, will be given more; anyone who has not, wil be deprived even of what he has.'	25 Infatti a chi ha, sarà dato, e a chi non ha, sarà tolto anche quello che ha.
26 He also said, 'This is what the kingdom of God is like. A man scatters seed on the land.	26 Diceva ancora: Il regno di Dio è come uno che getta il seme in terra
27 Night and day, while he sleeps, when he is awake, the seed is sprouting and growing; how, he doesnot know.	27 e va a dormire la notte e si leva il giorno; intanto il seme barbica e cresce mentre lui non ci bada.
28 Of its own accord the land produces first the shoot, then the ear, then the full grain in the ear.	28 Che la terra produce spontanea, prima l'erba, poi la spiga, e quindi, nella spiga, il frumento ben granito.
29 And when the crop is ready, at once he starts to reap because the harvest has come.'	29 E quando il frutto è maturo, subito ei vi mette la falce, perchè la mietitura è venuta.
30 He also said, 'What can we say that the kingdom is like? What parable can we find for it?	30 Diceva ancora: A che assomiglieremo il regno di Dio? o con qual parabola lo figureremo?
31 It is like a mustard seed which, at the time of its sowing, is the smal est of al the seeds on earth.	31 E' come un granello di senapa, il quale, quando si semina in terra è il più piccolo di tutti i semi che son al mond0
32 Yet once it is sown it grows into the biggest shrub of them al and puts out big branches so that thebirds of the air can shelter in its shade.'	32 Ma seminato che sia, diventa il maggiore dei legumi e fa rami così grandi che gli uccelli del cielo possono all'ombra di lui riposarsi.
33 Using many parables like these, he spoke the word to them, so far as they were capable ofunderstanding it.	33 E con molte di queste parabole esponeva loro la Parola, secondo che potevano intendere;
34 He would not speak to them except in parables, but he explained everything to his disciples when theywere by themselves.	34 e non parlava loro senza parabole; ma poi in privato spiegava tutto ai suoi discepoli.
35 With the coming of evening that same day, he said to them, 'Let us cross over to the other side.'	35 Lo stesso giorno, venuta la sera, disse loro: Passiamo all'altra riva.
36 And leaving the crowd behind they took him, just as he was, in the boat; and there were other boatswith him.	36 Essi, licenziato il popolo, lo prendono così com'era, nella barca; ed altre barche eran con lui.
37 Then it began to blow a great gale and the waves were breaking into the boat so that it was almostswamped.	37 Ed ecco levarsi una grande procella di vento che spingeva le onde nella barca, in modo che essa già si empiva.
38 But he was in the stern, his head on the cushion, asleep.	38 Ma egli se ne stava a poppa dormendo su un guanciale. Lo svegliano e gli dicono: Maestro, non t'importa che ci perdiamo?
39 They woke him and said to him, 'Master, do you not care? We are lost!' And he woke up and rebukedthe wind and said to the sea, 'Quiet now! Be calm!' And the wind dropped, and there followed a great calm.	39 Ed egli alzatosi, sgridò il vento e disse al mare: Taci, quietati. E si quietò il vento e si fece una grande calma.
40 Then he said to them, 'Why are you so frightened? Have you stil no faith?'	40 E disse loro: Perchè avete tanta paura? Non avete ancora fede? E presi da gran timore dicevano tra loro: Chi è mai costui al quale anche il mare e i venti obbediscono?
41 They were overcome with awe and said to one another, 'Who can this be? Even the wind and the seaobey him.'
