NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLES DES PEUPLES
1 Again he began to teach them by the lakeside, but such a huge crowd gathered round him that he gotinto a boat on the water and sat there. The whole crowd were at the lakeside on land.	1 De nouveau Jésus s’était mis à enseigner sur les bords du lac. La foule s’y rassemble autour de lui, en tel nombre qu’il monte dans une barque où il peut s’asseoir, restant sur la mer; et tout le peuple est sur la rive, face à la mer.
2 He taught them many things in parables, and in the course of his teaching he said to them,	2 Jésus leur enseigne beaucoup de choses en paraboles, et dans son enseignement il leur dit:
3 'Listen! Imagine a sower going out to sow.	3 “Écoutez! Voici que le semeur est sorti pour semer.
4 Now it happened that, as he sowed, some of the seed fell on the edge of the path, and the birds cameand ate it up.	4 Pendant qu’il sème, une partie du grain tombe au long du chemin, et les oiseaux viennent la manger.
5 Some seed fell on rocky ground where it found little soil and at once sprang up, because there was nodepth of earth;	5 “Une autre partie tombe sur la rocaille où elle n’a guère de terre. Très vite sort la tige parce que la terre n’est pas profonde;
6 and when the sun came up it was scorched and, not having any roots, it withered away.	6 mais quand le soleil commence à chauffer, elle est grillée et se dessèche parce qu’elle n’a pas de racines.
7 Some seed fell into thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked it, and it produced no crop.	7 “Une autre partie du grain tombe dans les épines. Les épines croissent et l’étouffent, et la graine ne porte pas de fruit.
8 And some seeds fell into rich soil, grew tal and strong, and produced a good crop; the yield was thirty,sixty, even a hundredfold.'	8 D’autres, enfin, tombent dans la belle terre et donnent du fruit; ces graines ont poussé, elles se sont développées et ont donné, l’une trente, l’autre soixante, l’autre cent.
9 And he said, 'Anyone who has ears for listening should listen!'	9 “Que celui qui a des oreilles pour entendre, entende!”
10 When he was alone, the Twelve, together with the others who formed his company, asked what theparables meant.	10 Quand on se retrouve entre soi, ceux qui l’entourent avec les Douze le questionnent sur les paraboles.
11 He told them, 'To you is granted the secret of the kingdom of God, but to those who are outsideeverything comes in parables,	11 Alors il leur dit: "C’est à vous qu’on a confié le mystère du Royaume de Dieu; ceux du dehors, tout leur arrive en paraboles,
12 so that they may look and look, but never perceive; listen and listen, but never understand; to avoidchanging their ways and being healed.'	12 si bien que: ils ont beau regarder ils ne voient pas, ils ont beau écouter, ils ne comprennent pas; autrement ils se convertiraient et seraient pardonnés.”
13 He said to them, 'Do you not understand this parable? Then how will you understand any of theparables?	13 Jésus leur dit: "Si vous ne comprenez pas cette parabole, comment comprendrez-vous toutes les autres?
14 What the sower is sowing is the word.	14 “Ce que sème le semeur, c’est la Parole.
15 Those on the edge of the path where the word is sown are people who have no sooner heard it thanSatan at once comes and carries away the word that was sown in them.	15 Certains sont sur le bord du chemin quand on sème la Parole; ils écoutent, mais Satan vient et enlève la Parole qui leur était destinée.
16 Similarly, those who are sown on patches of rock are people who, when first they hear the word,welcome it at once with joy.	16 “Chez d’autres on sème sur la pierraille: ils écoutent la Parole et aussitôt l’accueillent avec joie;
17 But they have no root deep down and do not last; should some trial come, or some persecution onaccount of the word, at once they fal away.	17 mais chez eux les racines manquent, ils changent avec le temps. Pour peu que vienne une difficulté ou une persécution à cause de la Parole, ils chutent aussitôt.
18 Then there are others who are sown in thorns. These have heard the word,	18 “Chez d’autres on sème au milieu des épines. Ceux-là ont écouté la Parole;
19 but the worries of the world, the lure of riches and al the other passions come in to choke the word,and so it produces nothing.	19 et puis surviennent les soucis du monde, les illusions de la richesse et tous les autres désirs. Ils étouffent la Parole et elle reste stérile.
20 And there are those who have been sown in rich soil; they hear the word and accept it and yield aharvest, thirty and sixty and a hundredfold.'	20 “Chez d’autres on sème en belle terre; ceux-là ont écouté la Parole, ils l’ont accueillie et ils portent du fruit, l’un trente, l’autre soixante, l’autre encore cent.”
21 He also said to them, 'Is a lamp brought in to be put under a tub or under the bed? Surely to be put onthe lamp-stand?	21 Jésus leur dit: "Lorsque arrive la lampe, va-t-on la coiffer d’une caisse, la mettre sous le lit? Ne sera-t-elle pas mise sur le lampadaire?
22 For there is nothing hidden, but it must be disclosed, nothing kept secret except to be brought to light.	22 Il n’y a rien de caché qui ne doive être mis au jour, rien de secret qui ne doive être éclairci.
23 Anyone who has ears for listening should listen!'	23 “Si quelqu’un a des oreilles pour entendre, qu’il entende!”
24 He also said to them, 'Take notice of what you are hearing. The standard you use wil be used for you-- and you wil receive more besides;	24 Il leur dit encore: "Que faites-vous, de ce que vous entendez? On vous donnera selon la mesure même où vous en ferez bon usage, et vous recevrez mieux encore.
25 anyone who has, will be given more; anyone who has not, wil be deprived even of what he has.'	25 À celui qui produit, on donnera; mais celui qui ne produit pas, on lui reprendra ce qu’il avait.”
26 He also said, 'This is what the kingdom of God is like. A man scatters seed on the land.	26 Jésus leur dit: "Voici une image du Royaume de Dieu. Un homme a jeté la semence en terre.
27 Night and day, while he sleeps, when he is awake, the seed is sprouting and growing; how, he doesnot know.	27 Après quoi, de jour et de nuit, qu’il dorme ou se lève, la graine pousse et se développe sans qu’il ait à y voir.
28 Of its own accord the land produces first the shoot, then the ear, then the full grain in the ear.	28 D’elle-même la terre donne le fruit: d’abord apparaît l’herbe, puis l’épi, puis le blé plein l’épi.
29 And when the crop is ready, at once he starts to reap because the harvest has come.'	29 Et quand c’est bon à récolter on y lance la faux: l’heure de la moisson est arrivée.”
30 He also said, 'What can we say that the kingdom is like? What parable can we find for it?	30 Jésus dit encore: "À quoi vais-je comparer le Royaume de Dieu? Quelle image en donner?
31 It is like a mustard seed which, at the time of its sowing, is the smal est of al the seeds on earth.	31 Il est comme la graine de moutarde, la plus petite de celles que l’on sème en terre.
32 Yet once it is sown it grows into the biggest shrub of them al and puts out big branches so that thebirds of the air can shelter in its shade.'	32 Mais une fois semée, elle monte et dépasse toutes les autres plantes; elle fait de longues branches et les oiseaux du ciel viennent chercher son ombre.
33 Using many parables like these, he spoke the word to them, so far as they were capable ofunderstanding it.	33 Par beaucoup de paraboles semblables, il leur annonçait la Parole, s’adaptant à la capacité de leur intelligence.
34 He would not speak to them except in parables, but he explained everything to his disciples when theywere by themselves.	34 Il ne leur parlait jamais sans paraboles, mais il expliquait tout à ses disciples en particulier.
35 With the coming of evening that same day, he said to them, 'Let us cross over to the other side.'	35 Il était déjà tard ce jour-là quand Jésus dit à ses disciples: "Passons sur l’autre rive.”
36 And leaving the crowd behind they took him, just as he was, in the boat; and there were other boatswith him.	36 Ils laissèrent la foule et prirent Jésus comme il était dans la barque; d’autres barques l’accompagnaient.
37 Then it began to blow a great gale and the waves were breaking into the boat so that it was almostswamped.	37 C’est alors que se lève une violente rafale de vent: les vagues se jettent sur la barque au point que déjà l’eau monte,
38 But he was in the stern, his head on the cushion, asleep.	38 mais lui, allongé sur le coussin à l’arrière, il dort. Ils le tirent du sommeil et lui disent: "Cela ne te fait rien si nous coulons!”
39 They woke him and said to him, 'Master, do you not care? We are lost!' And he woke up and rebukedthe wind and said to the sea, 'Quiet now! Be calm!' And the wind dropped, and there followed a great calm.	39 Jésus s’est réveillé, il rappelle à l’ordre le vent et dit à la mer: "Silence! Tais-toi!” Aussitôt le vent tombe et c’est le grand calme.
40 Then he said to them, 'Why are you so frightened? Have you stil no faith?'	40 Alors il leur dit: "Pourquoi vous mettre dans un tel état? Vous n’avez donc pas la foi?”
41 They were overcome with awe and said to one another, 'Who can this be? Even the wind and the seaobey him.'	41 Ils furent saisis d’une grande crainte; ils se disaient l’un à l’autre: "Qui donc est-il? Même le vent et la mer lui obéissent!”
