Matthew 4

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA TINTORI
1 Then Jesus was led by the Spirit out into the desert to be put to the test by the devil.	1 Allora Gesù fu condotto dallo Spirito nel deserto per essere tentato dal diavolo.
2 He fasted for forty days and forty nights, after which he was hungry,	2 E dopo aver digiunato quaranta giorni e quaranta notti, finalmente ebbe fame.
3 and the tester came and said to him, 'If you are Son of God, tel these stones to turn into loaves.'	3 E il tentatore, accostandosi disse: Se tu sei Figlio di Dio, di' che queste pietre diventino pani.
4 But he replied, 'Scripture says: Human beings live not on bread alone but on every word that comesfrom the mouth of God.'	4 Ma Gesù rispose: Sta scritto: Non di solo pane vive l'uomo, ma di ogni parola che procede dalla bocca di Dio.
5 The devil then took him to the holy city and set him on the parapet of the Temple.	5 Allora il diavolo lo trasportò nella città santa e avendolo posto sul pinnacolo del tempio,
6 'If you are Son of God,' he said, 'throw yourself down; for scripture says: He has given his angels ordersabout you, and they will carry you in their arms in case you trip over a stone.'	6 gli disse: Se tu sei Figlio di Dio, gettati di sotto, poiché sta scritto che agli angeli suoi ha commesso la cura di te, ti porteranno nelle mani, affinchè non inciampi il tuo piede in qualche pietra.
7 Jesus said to him, 'Scripture also says: Do not put the Lord your God to the test.'	7 E Gesù a lui: Sta anche scritto: Non tenterai il Signore Dio tuo.
8 Next, taking him to a very high mountain, the devil showed him al the kingdoms of the world and theirsplendour.	8 Di nuovo il diavolo lo menò sopra un monte altissimo, e mostrandogli tutti i regni del mondo e la loro magnificenza,
9 And he said to him, 'I wil give you al these, if you fal at my feet and do me homage.'	9 gli disse: Tutto questo io ti darò, se prostrandoti, mi adorerai.
10 Then Jesus replied, 'Away with you, Satan! For scripture says: The Lord your God is the one to whomyou must do homage, him alone you must serve.'	10 Allora Gesù rispose: Va' via, satana, chè sta scritto: Adorerai il Signore Dio tuo e servirai a lui solo.
11 Then the devil left him, and suddenly angels appeared and looked after him.	11 Allora il diavolo lo lasciò, ed ecco gli angeli vennero a servirlo.
12 Hearing that John had been arrested he withdrew to Galilee,	12 Or Gesù, avendo udito che Giovanni era stato messo in prigione, si ritirò in Galilea;
13 and leaving Nazara he went and settled in Capernaum, beside the lake, on the borders of Zebulun andNaphtali.	13 e, lasciata la città di Nazaret, andò ad abitare a Cafarnao, sulla riva del mare, ai confini di Zàbulon e di Neftali;
14 This was to fulfil what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah:	14 affinchè si adempisse quello che era stato detto dal profeta Isaia:
15 Land of Zebulun! Land of Naphtali! Way of the sea beyond Jordan. Galilee of the nations!	15 La terra di Zàbulon e quella di Neftali, la via del mare oltre il Giordano, la Galilea delle Genti,
16 The people that lived in darkness have seen a great light; on those who lived in a country of shadowdark as death a light has dawned.	16 il popolo che giaceva nelle tenebre ha vista una gran luce; per coloro che giacevano nella regione e nell'ombra della morte la luce è spuntata.
17 From then onwards Jesus began his proclamation with the message, 'Repent, for the kingdom ofHeaven is close at hand.'	17 D'allora incominciò Gesù a predicare e a dire: Fate penitenza, chè il regno dei cieli è vicino.
18 As he was walking by the Lake of Galilee he saw two brothers, Simon, who was cal ed Peter, and hisbrother Andrew; they were making a cast into the lake with their net, for they were fishermen.	18 E camminando lungo il mare di Galilea, Gesù vide due fratelli: Simone detto Pietro e Andrea, suo fratello, che gettavano in mare la rete, (erano pescatori).
19 And he said to them, 'Come after me and I wil make you fishers of people.'	19 E disse loro: Venite dietro a me e vi farò pescatori d'uomini.
20 And at once they left their nets and followed him.	20 Ed essi, lasciate subito le reti, lo seguirono.
21 Going on from there he saw another pair of brothers, James son of Zebedee and his brother John;they were in their boat with their father Zebedee, mending their nets, and he cal ed them.	21 E di lì andando innanzi, vide due altri fratelli: Giacomo di Zebedeo e Giovanni suo fratello, in una barca, con Zebedeo loro padre, a rassettar le reti, e li chiamò.
22 And at once, leaving the boat and their father, they fol owed him.	22 Ed essi, lasciate subito le reti ed il padre, lo seguirono.
23 He went round the whole of Galilee teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of thekingdom and curing al kinds of disease and il ness among the people.	23 E Gesù andava attorno per tutta la Galilea insegnando in quelle sinagoghe e predicando il vangelo del regno e sanando ogni languore ed ogni infermità nel popolo.
24 His fame spread throughout Syria, and those who were suffering from diseases and painful complaintsof one kind or another, the possessed, epileptics, the paralysed, were all brought to him, and he cured them.	24 E si sparse la fama di lui per tutta la Siria: e gli presentarono tutti quelli che avevan male; gli afflitti da dolori e da malattie diverse, indemoniati, lunatici, paralitici; e li risanò.
25 Large crowds fol owed him, coming from Galilee, the Decapolis, Jerusalem, Judaea and Transjordan.	25 E lo seguirono numerose turbe dalla Galilea, dalla Decapoli, da Gerusalemme, dalla Giudea e d'oltre il Giordano.
