Matthew 4

1 Then Jesus was led by the Spirit out into the desert to be put to the test by the devil.	1 אז נשא הרוח את ישוע המדברה למען ינסהו השטן
2 He fasted for forty days and forty nights, after which he was hungry,	2 ויהי אחרי צומו ארבעים יום וארבעים לילה וירעב
3 and the tester came and said to him, 'If you are Son of God, tel these stones to turn into loaves.'	3 ויגש אליו המנסה ויאמר אם בן האלהים אתה אמר לאבנים האלה ותהיין ללחם
4 But he replied, 'Scripture says: Human beings live not on bread alone but on every word that comesfrom the mouth of God.'	4 ויען ויאמר הן כתוב לא על הלחם לבדו יחיה האדם כי על כל מוצא פי יי
5 The devil then took him to the holy city and set him on the parapet of the Temple.	5 וישאהו השטן אל עיר הקדש ויעמידהו על פנת בית המקדש
6 'If you are Son of God,' he said, 'throw yourself down; for scripture says: He has given his angels ordersabout you, and they will carry you in their arms in case you trip over a stone.'	6 ויאמר אליו אם בן האלהים אתה התנפל למטה כי כתוב כי מלאכיו יצוה לך ועל כפים ישאונך פן תגף באבן רגלך
7 Jesus said to him, 'Scripture also says: Do not put the Lord your God to the test.'	7 ויאמר אליו ישוע ועוד כתוב לא תנסה את יהוה אלהיך
8 Next, taking him to a very high mountain, the devil showed him al the kingdoms of the world and theirsplendour.	8 ויוסף השטן וישאהו אל הר גבה מאד ויראהו את כל ממלכות תבל וכבודן
9 And he said to him, 'I wil give you al these, if you fal at my feet and do me homage.'	9 ויאמר אליו את כל זאת לך אתננה אם תקד ותשתחוה לי
10 Then Jesus replied, 'Away with you, Satan! For scripture says: The Lord your God is the one to whomyou must do homage, him alone you must serve.'	10 ויאמר אליו ישוע סור ממני השטן כי כתוב ליהוה אלהיך תשתחוה ואותו לבדו תעבד
11 Then the devil left him, and suddenly angels appeared and looked after him.	11 וירף ממנו השטן והנה נגשו אליו מלאכים וישרתוהו
12 Hearing that John had been arrested he withdrew to Galilee,	12 ויהי כשמעו כי הסגירו את יוחנן וילך לו ארץ הגליל
13 and leaving Nazara he went and settled in Capernaum, beside the lake, on the borders of Zebulun andNaphtali.	13 ויעזב את נצרת ויבא וישב בכפר נחום אשר על שפת הים בגבול זבלון ונפתלי
14 This was to fulfil what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah:	14 למלאת הנאמר על פי ישעיהו הנביא לאמר
15 Land of Zebulun! Land of Naphtali! Way of the sea beyond Jordan. Galilee of the nations!	15 ארצה זבלון וארצה נפתלי דרך הים עבר הירדן גליל הגוים
16 The people that lived in darkness have seen a great light; on those who lived in a country of shadowdark as death a light has dawned.	16 העם ההלכים בחשך ראו אור גדול וישבי בארץ צלמות אור נגה עליהם
17 From then onwards Jesus began his proclamation with the message, 'Repent, for the kingdom ofHeaven is close at hand.'	17 מן העת ההיא החל ישוע לקרא קרוא ואמור שובו כי הגיעה מלכות השמים
18 As he was walking by the Lake of Galilee he saw two brothers, Simon, who was cal ed Peter, and hisbrother Andrew; they were making a cast into the lake with their net, for they were fishermen.	18 ויהי בהתהלכו על יד ים הגליל וירא שני אנשים אחים את שמעון הנקרא פטרוס ואת אנדרי אחיו והמה משליכים מצודה בים כי דיגים היו
19 And he said to them, 'Come after me and I wil make you fishers of people.'	19 ויאמר אליהם לכו אחרי ואשימכם לדיגי אנשים
20 And at once they left their nets and followed him.	20 ויעזבו מהרה את המכמרות וילכו אחריו
21 Going on from there he saw another pair of brothers, James son of Zebedee and his brother John;they were in their boat with their father Zebedee, mending their nets, and he cal ed them.	21 ויהי כעברו משם וירא שני אנשים אחים אחרים את יעקב בן זבדי ואת יוחנן אחיו באניה עם זבדי אביהם מתקנים את מכמרותם ויקרא אליהם
22 And at once, leaving the boat and their father, they fol owed him.	22 ויעזבו מיד את האניה ואת אביהם וילכו אחריו
23 He went round the whole of Galilee teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of thekingdom and curing al kinds of disease and il ness among the people.	23 ויסב ישוע בכל הגליל וילמד בבתי כנסיותיהם ויבשר בשורת המלכות וירפא כל מחלה וכל מדוה בעם
24 His fame spread throughout Syria, and those who were suffering from diseases and painful complaintsof one kind or another, the possessed, epileptics, the paralysed, were all brought to him, and he cured them.	24 ויצא שמעו בכל ארץ סוריא ויביאו אליו את כל החולים המענים בכל חלים ומכאובים ואחוזי שדים ומכי ירח ונכי אברים וירפאם
25 Large crowds fol owed him, coming from Galilee, the Decapolis, Jerusalem, Judaea and Transjordan.	25 וילכו אחריו המנים המנים מן הגליל ומן עשר הערים ומירושלים ויהודה ומעבר לירדן
