Matthew 4

NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 Then Jesus was led by the Spirit out into the desert to be put to the test by the devil.	1 Entonces Jesús fue llevado por el Espíritu al desierto, para ser tentado por el demonio.
2 He fasted for forty days and forty nights, after which he was hungry,	2 Después de ayunar cuarenta días con sus cuarenta noches, sintió hambre.
3 and the tester came and said to him, 'If you are Son of God, tel these stones to turn into loaves.'	3 Y el tentador, acercándose, le dijo: «Si tú eres Hijo de Dios, manda que estas piedras se conviertan en panes».
4 But he replied, 'Scripture says: Human beings live not on bread alone but on every word that comesfrom the mouth of God.'	4 Jesús le respondió: «Está escrito: "El hombre no vive solamente de pan, sino de toda palabra que sale de la boca de Dios"».
5 The devil then took him to the holy city and set him on the parapet of the Temple.	5 Luego el demonio llevó a Jesús a la Ciudad santa y lo puso en la parte más alta del Templo,
6 'If you are Son of God,' he said, 'throw yourself down; for scripture says: He has given his angels ordersabout you, and they will carry you in their arms in case you trip over a stone.'	6 diciéndole: «Si tú eres Hijo de Dios, tírate abajo, porque está escrito: "Dios dará órdenes a sus ángeles, y ellos te llevarán en sus manos para que tu pie no tropiece con ninguna piedra"».
7 Jesus said to him, 'Scripture also says: Do not put the Lord your God to the test.'	7 Jesús le respondió: «También está escrito: "No tentarás al Señor, tu Dios"».
8 Next, taking him to a very high mountain, the devil showed him al the kingdoms of the world and theirsplendour.	8 El demonio lo llevó luego a una montaña muy alta; desde allí le hizo ver todos los reinos del mundo con todo su esplendor,
9 And he said to him, 'I wil give you al these, if you fal at my feet and do me homage.'	9 y le dijo: «Te daré todo esto, si te postras para adorarme».
10 Then Jesus replied, 'Away with you, Satan! For scripture says: The Lord your God is the one to whomyou must do homage, him alone you must serve.'	10 Jesús le respondió: «Retírate, Satanás, porque está escrito: "Adorarás al Señor, tu Dios, y a él solo rendirás culto"».
11 Then the devil left him, and suddenly angels appeared and looked after him.	11 Entonces el demonio lo dejó, y unos ángeles se acercaron para servirlo.
12 Hearing that John had been arrested he withdrew to Galilee,	12 Cuando Jesús se enteró de que Juan había sido arrestado, se retiró a Galilea.
13 and leaving Nazara he went and settled in Capernaum, beside the lake, on the borders of Zebulun andNaphtali.	13 Y, dejando Nazaret, se estableció en Cafarnaúm, a orillas del lago, en los confines de Zabulón y Neftalí,
14 This was to fulfil what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah:	14 para que se cumpliera lo que había sido anunciado por el profeta Isaías:
15 Land of Zebulun! Land of Naphtali! Way of the sea beyond Jordan. Galilee of the nations!	15 "¡Tierra de Zabulón, tierra de Neftalí, camino del mar, país de la Transjordania, Galilea de las naciones!
16 The people that lived in darkness have seen a great light; on those who lived in a country of shadowdark as death a light has dawned.	16 El pueblo que se hallaba en tinieblas vio una gran luz; sobre los que vivían en las oscuras regiones de la muerte, se levantó una luz."
17 From then onwards Jesus began his proclamation with the message, 'Repent, for the kingdom ofHeaven is close at hand.'	17 A partir de ese momento, Jesús comenzó a proclamar: «Conviértanse, porque el Reino de los Cielos está cerca».
18 As he was walking by the Lake of Galilee he saw two brothers, Simon, who was cal ed Peter, and hisbrother Andrew; they were making a cast into the lake with their net, for they were fishermen.	18 Mientras caminaba a orillas del mar de Galilea, Jesús vio a dos hermanos: a Simón, llamado Pedro, y a su hermano Andrés, que echaban las redes al mar porque eran pescadores.
19 And he said to them, 'Come after me and I wil make you fishers of people.'	19 Entonces les dijo: «Síganme, y yo los haré pescadores de hombres».
20 And at once they left their nets and followed him.	20 Inmediatamente, ellos dejaron las redes y lo siguieron.
21 Going on from there he saw another pair of brothers, James son of Zebedee and his brother John;they were in their boat with their father Zebedee, mending their nets, and he cal ed them.	21 Continuando su camino, vio a otros dos hermanos: a Santiago, hijo de Zebedeo, y a su hermano Juan, que estaban en la barca de Zebedeo, su padre, arreglando las redes; y Jesús los llamó.
22 And at once, leaving the boat and their father, they fol owed him.	22 Inmediatamente, ellos dejaron la barca y a su padre, y lo siguieron.
23 He went round the whole of Galilee teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of thekingdom and curing al kinds of disease and il ness among the people.	23 Jesús recorría toda la Galilea, enseñando en las sinagogas, proclamando la Buena Noticia del reino y curando todas las enfermedades y dolencias de la gente.
24 His fame spread throughout Syria, and those who were suffering from diseases and painful complaintsof one kind or another, the possessed, epileptics, the paralysed, were all brought to him, and he cured them.	24 Su fama se extendió por toda la Siria, y le llevaban a todos los enfermos, afligidos por diversas enfermedades y sufrimientos: endemoniados, epilépticos y paralíticos, y él los curaba.
25 Large crowds fol owed him, coming from Galilee, the Decapolis, Jerusalem, Judaea and Transjordan.	25 Lo seguían grandes multitudes que llegaban a Galilea, de la Decápolis, de Jerusalén, de Judea y de la Transjordania.
