1 That same day, Jesus left the house and sat by the lakeside,	1 Naquele dia, saindo Jesus de casa, sentou-se à beira do mar.
2 but such large crowds gathered round him that he got into a boat and sat there. The people all stoodon the shore,	2 E juntou-se em volta dele uma grande multidão de gente, de tal sorte que foi preciso entrar numa barca e sentar-se nela ; e toda a multidão estava em pé sobre a praia.
3 and he told them many things in parables. He said, 'Listen, a sower went out to sow.	3 E disse-lhes muitas coisas por parábolas: "Eis que um semeador saiu a semear.
4 As he sowed, some seeds fel on the edge of the path, and the birds came and ate them up.	4 Quando semeava, uma parte da semente caiu ao longo do caminho, e vieram as aves do céu e comeram-na.
5 Others fel on patches of rock where they found little soil and sprang up at once, because there was nodepth of earth;	5 Outra parte caiu em lugar pedregoso, onde não havia muita terra; e logo nasceu, porque não tinha profundidade de terra.
6 but as soon as the sun came up they were scorched and, not having any roots, they withered away.	6 Mas, saindo o sol, queimou-se; e porque não tinha raiz, secou.
7 Others fel among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked them.	7 Outra parte caiu entre os espinhos; e cresceram os espinhos, e a sufocaram.
8 Others fel on rich soil and produced their crop, some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.	8 Outra parte, enfim, caiu em boa terra, e frutificou; uns grãos deram cem por um, outros sessenta, outros trinta.
9 Anyone who has ears should listen!'	9 Quem tem ouvidos para ouvir, ouça."
10 Then the disciples went up to him and asked, 'Why do you talk to them in parables?'	10 Chegando-se a ele os discípulos, disseram-lhe: "Por que razão lhes falas por meio de parábolas?"
11 In answer, he said, 'Because to you is granted to understand the mysteries of the kingdom ofHeaven, but to them it is not granted.	11 Ele respondeu-lhes: "Porque a vós é concedido conhecer os mistérios do reino dos céus, mas a eles não lhes é concedido.
12 Anyone who has wil be given more and wil have more than enough; but anyone who has not will bedeprived even of what he has.	12 Porque ao que tem lhe será dado (ainda mais), e terá em abundância, mas ao que não tem, até o que tem lhe será tirado.
13 The reason I talk to them in parables is that they look without seeing and listen without hearing orunderstanding.	13 Por isso lhes falo em parábolas, porque vendo não vêem, e ouvindo não ouvem nem entendem.
14 So in their case what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah is being fulfil ed: Listen and listen, but neverunderstand! Look and look, but never perceive!	14 E cumpre-se neles a profecia de Isaías (Is. 6, 9-10), que diz: Ouvireis com os ouvidos, e não entendereis; olhareis com os vossos olhos, e não vereis.
15 This people's heart has grown coarse, their ears dul ed, they have shut their eyes tight to avoid usingtheir eyes to see, their ears to hear, their heart to understand, changing their ways and being healed by me.	15 Porque o coração deste povo tornou-se insensível, os- seus ouvidos tornaram-se duros, e fecharam os olhos, para não suceder que vejam com os olhos, e ouçam com os ouvidos, e entendam com o coração, e se convertam, e eu os sare.
16 'But blessed are your eyes because they see, your ears because they hear!	16 Ditosos, porém, os vossos olhos, porque vêem, e os vossos ouvidos, porque ouvem.
17 In truth I tel you, many prophets and upright people longed to see what you see, and never saw it; tohear what you hear, and never heard it.	17 Em verdade vos digo que muitos profetas e justos desejaram ver o que vedes, e não o viram, ouvir o que ouvis, e não o ouviram.
18 'So pay attention to the parable of the sower.	18 Ouvi, pois, vós o que significa a parábola do semeador:
19 When anyone hears the word of the kingdom without understanding, the Evil One comes and carriesoff what was sown in his heart: this is the seed sown on the edge of the path.	19 Todo aquele que ouve a palavra do reino (do Evangelho), e não lhe presta atenção, vem o espírito maligno e arrebata o que foi semeado no seu coração; este é o que recebeu a semente ao longo da estrada.
20 The seed sown on patches of rock is someone who hears the word and welcomes it at once with joy.	20 O que recebeu a semente no lugar pedregoso, é aquele que ouve a palavra, e logo a recebe com gosto;
21 But such a person has no root deep down and does not last; should some trial come, or somepersecution on account of the word, at once he falls away.	21 porém, não tem em si raiz, é inconstante; e, quando lhe sobrevêm tribulação e perseguição por causa da palavra, logo sucumbe.
22 The seed sown in thorns is someone who hears the word, but the worry of the world and the lure ofriches choke the word and so it produces nothing.	22 O que recebeu a semente entre espinhos, é aquele que ouve a palavra, porém os cuidados deste século e a sedução das riquezas sufocam a palavra, e fica infrutuosa.
23 And the seed sown in rich soil is someone who hears the word and understands it; this is the onewho yields a harvest and produces now a hundredfold, now sixty, now thirty.'	23 O que recebeu a semente em boa terra, é aquele que ouve a palavra, e a compreende, esse dá fruto, e umas vezes dá cem, outras sessenta, e outras trinta por um."
24 He put another parable before them, 'The kingdom of Heaven may be compared to a man whosowed good seed in his field.	24 Propôs-lhe outra parábola, dizendo: " O reino dos céus é semelhante a um homem que semeou boa semente no seu campo.
25 While everybody was asleep his enemy came, sowed darnel all among the wheat, and made off.	25 Porém, enquanto os homens dormiam, veio o seu inimigo, e semeou cizânia no meio do trigo, e foi-se.
26 When the new wheat sprouted and ripened, then the darnel appeared as wel .	26 Tendo crescido a erva e dado fruto, apareceu então a cizânia.
27 The owner's labourers went to him and said, "Sir, was it not good seed that you sowed in your field?If so, where does the darnel come from?"	27 Chegando os servos do pai de família, disseram-lhe: Senhor, porventura não semeaste tu boa semente no teu campo? Donde veio pois a cizânia?
28 He said to them, "Some enemy has done this." And the labourers said, "Do you want us to go andweed it out?"	28 Ele respondeu-lhes: Foi um inimigo que fez isto. Os servos disseram-lhe: Queres que vamos e a arranquemos?
29 But he said, "No, because when you weed out the darnel you might pul up the wheat with it.	29 Ele respondeu-lhes: Não. para que talvez não suceda que, arrancando a cizânia, arranqueis juntamente com ela o trigo.
30 Let them both grow til the harvest; and at harvest time I shall say to the reapers: First col ect thedarnel and tie it in bundles to be burnt, then gather the wheat into my barn." '	30 Deixai crescer uma e outra coisa até à ceifa, e no tempo da ceifa direi aos segadores: Colhei primeiramente a cizânia, e atai-a em molhos para a queimar; o trigo, porém, recolhei-o no meu celeiro."
31 He put another parable before them, 'The kingdom of Heaven is like a mustard seed which a mantook and sowed in his field.	31 Propôs-lhes outra parábola, dizendo: O reino dos céus é semelhante a um grão de mostarda, que um homem tomou e semeou no seu campo.
32 It is the smal est of all the seeds, but when it has grown it is the biggest of shrubs and becomes atree, so that the birds of the air can come and shelter in its branches.'	32 É a mais pequena,de todas as sementes, mas, depois de ter crescido, é maior que todas as hortaliças e chega a tornar- se uma árvore, de sorte que as aves do céu vêm aninhar sobre os seus ramos."
33 He told them another parable, 'The kingdom of Heaven is like the yeast a woman took and mixed inwith three measures of flour til it was leavened al through.'	33 Disse-lhes outra parábola; "O reino dos céus é semelhante ao fermento que uma mulher toma e mistura em três medidas de farinha, até que o todo fica fermentado."
34 In al this Jesus spoke to the crowds in parables; indeed, he would never speak to them except inparables.	34 Todas estas coisas disse Jesus ao povo em parábolas; e não lhes falava sem parábolas,
35 This was to fulfil what was spoken by the prophet: I will speak to you in parables, unfold what hasbeen hidden since the foundation of the world.	35 a fim de que se cumprisse o que estava anunciado pelo profeta, que diz; Abrirei em parábolas a minha boca, publicarei as coisas escondidas desde a criação (Ps. 77, 2)."
36 Then, leaving the crowds, he went to the house; and his disciples came to him and said, 'Explain tous the parable about the darnel in the field.'	36 Então (Jesus), despedido o povo, foi para casa, e chegaram-se a ele os seus discípulos, dizendo: "Explica-nos a parábola da cizânia no campo."
37 He said in reply, 'The sower of the good seed is the Son of man.	37 Ele respondeu: "O que semeia a boa semente, é o Filho do homem.
38 The field is the world; the good seed is the subjects of the kingdom; the darnel, the subjects of theEvil One;	38 O campo é o mundo. A boa semente são os filhos do reino. A cizânia são os filhos do (espírito) maligno.
39 the enemy who sowed it, the devil; the harvest is the end of the world; the reapers are the angels.	39 O inimigo que a semeou, é o demônio. O tempo da ceifa é o fim do mundo. Os segadores são os anjos.
40 Well then, just as the darnel is gathered up and burnt in the fire, so it wil be at the end of time.	40 De maneira que, assim como é colhida a cizânia e queimada no fogo, assim acontecerá no fim do mundo.
41 The Son of man wil send his angels and they wil gather out of his kingdom al causes of fal ing andal who do evil,	41 O Filho do homem enviará os seus anjos, e tirarão do seu reino todos os escândalos e os que praticam a iniquidade,
42 and throw them into the blazing furnace, where there will be weeping and grinding of teeth.	42 e lançá-los-ão na fornalha de fogo. Ali haverá choro e ranger de dentes.
43 Then the upright will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Anyone who has ears shouldlisten!	43 Então resplandecerão os justos como o sol no reino de seu Pai. O que tem ouvidos para ouvir, ouça.
44 'The kingdom of Heaven is like treasure hidden in a field which someone has found; he hides it again,goes off in his joy, sel s everything he owns and buys the field.	44 O reino dos céus é semelhante a um tesouro escondido num campo, o qual, quando um homem o acha, esconde-o, e, pelo gosto que sente de o achar, vai, e vende tudo o que tem, e compra aquele campo.
45 'Again, the kingdom of Heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls;	45 O reino dos céus é também semelhante a um mercador que busca pérolas preciosas,
46 when he finds one of great value he goes and sells everything he owns and buys it.	46 e, tendo encontrado uma de grande preço, vai, vende tudo o que tem, e a compra.
47 'Again, the kingdom of Heaven is like a dragnet that is cast in the sea and brings in a haul of al kindsof fish.	47 O reino dos céus é ainda semelhante a uma rede lançada ao mar, que colhe toda a casta de peixes.
48 When it is full, the fishermen bring it ashore; then, sitting down, they collect the good ones in basketsand throw away those that are no use.	48 Quando está cheia, os pescadores tiram-na para fora, e, sentados na praia, escolhem os bons para cestos e deitam fora os maus.
49 This is how it will be at the end of time: the angels wil appear and separate the wicked from theupright,	49 Será assim no fim do mundo, virão os anjos, e separarão os maus do meio dos justos,
50 to throw them into the blazing furnace, where there wil be weeping and grinding of teeth.	50 e lançá-los-ão na fornalha de fogo. Ali haverá choro e ranger de dentes.
51 'Have you understood al these?' They said, 'Yes.'	51 Compreendestes tudo isto?" Eles responderam: "Sim."
52 And he said to them, 'Wel then, every scribe who becomes a disciple of the kingdom of Heaven islike a householder who brings out from his storeroom new things as well as old.'	52 Ele disse-Ihes; "Por isso todo o escriba instruído nas coisas do reino dos céus é semelhante a um pai de família, que tira do seu tesouro coisas novas e velhas."
53 When Jesus had finished these parables he left the district;	53 Quando Jesus acabou de dizer estas parábolas partiu dali.
54 and, coming to his home town, he taught the people in their synagogue in such a way that they wereastonished and said, 'Where did the man get this wisdom and these miraculous powers?	54 E, indo para a sua pátria, ensinava nas suas sinagogas, de modo que se admiravam e diziam; "Donde lhe vem esta sabedoria e estes milagres?
55 This is the carpenter's son, surely? Is not his mother the woman cal ed Mary, and his brothers Jamesand Joseph and Simon and Jude?	55 Porventura não é este o filho do carpinteiro? Não se chama sua mãe Maria, e seus irmãos Tiago, José, Simão e Judas?
56 His sisters, too, are they not al here with us? So where did the man get it all?'	56 Suas irmãs não vivem todas entre nós? Donde vem, pois, a este todas estas coisas?
57 And they would not accept him. But Jesus said to them, 'A prophet is despised only in his owncountry and in his own house,'	57 E estavam perplexos a seu respeito." Mas Jesus disse-lhes: "Não há profeta sem prestígio senão na sua pátria e na sua casa."
58 and he did not work many miracles there because of their lack of faith.	58 E fez ali poucos milagres, por causa da incredulidade deles.
