1 That same day, Jesus left the house and sat by the lakeside,	1 In quel giorno Gesù, uscito di casa, si pose a sedere lungo il mare.
2 but such large crowds gathered round him that he got into a boat and sat there. The people all stoodon the shore,	2 E gran gente gli si radunò intorno, in modo che dovette andare a sedere in una barca, e tutta la gente restò sul lido.
3 and he told them many things in parables. He said, 'Listen, a sower went out to sow.	3 E loro parlò di molte cose in parabole. Ecco, disse, il seminatore uscì a seminare;
4 As he sowed, some seeds fel on the edge of the path, and the birds came and ate them up.	4 e mentre spargeva il seme, parte ne cadde lungo la strada, e vennero gli uccelli a beccarlo.
5 Others fel on patches of rock where they found little soil and sprang up at once, because there was nodepth of earth;	5 Parte cadde in luoghi sassosi, dove non aveva molta terra; e subito spuntò, perchè il terreno era poco profondo.
6 but as soon as the sun came up they were scorched and, not having any roots, they withered away.	6 Ma levatosi il sole, lo riarse e, per non aver radice, seccò.
7 Others fel among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked them.	7 Un'altra parte cadde tra le spine; e le spine, crescendo, lo soffocarono.
8 Others fel on rich soil and produced their crop, some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.	8 Un'altra poi cadde in terra buona e portò frutto, dando, dove il cento, dove il sessanta e dove il trenta.
9 Anyone who has ears should listen!'	9 Chi ha orecchi da intendere intenda.
10 Then the disciples went up to him and asked, 'Why do you talk to them in parables?'	10 I discepoli, accostatisi, gli dissero: Perchè parli ad essi in parabole?
11 In answer, he said, 'Because to you is granted to understand the mysteries of the kingdom ofHeaven, but to them it is not granted.	11 Ed egli rispose loro: Perchè a voi è dato d'intendere i misteri del regno dei cieli, ma a loro non è stato concesso.
12 Anyone who has wil be given more and wil have more than enough; but anyone who has not will bedeprived even of what he has.	12 Infatti a chi ha, sarà dato e sarà nell'abbondanza; ma a chi non ha, sarà tolto anche quello che ha.
13 The reason I talk to them in parables is that they look without seeing and listen without hearing orunderstanding.	13 E parlò a loro in parabole, perchè vedendo non vedono, e udendo non odono, nè intendono.
14 So in their case what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah is being fulfil ed: Listen and listen, but neverunderstand! Look and look, but never perceive!	14 E in loro si adempie la profezia di Isaia che dice: Udirete con i vostri orecchi e non intenderete; mirerete coi vostri occhi e non vedrete.
15 This people's heart has grown coarse, their ears dul ed, they have shut their eyes tight to avoid usingtheir eyes to see, their ears to hear, their heart to understand, changing their ways and being healed by me.	15 Che questo popolo ha un cuore insensibile: sono duri di orecchi ed han chiusi gli occhi per non vedere cogli occhi e non udire cogli orecchi, per non intendere col cuore e non convertirsi e perchè io non li guarisca.
16 'But blessed are your eyes because they see, your ears because they hear!	16 Ma beati i vostri occhi che vedono e i vostri orecchi che odono!
17 In truth I tel you, many prophets and upright people longed to see what you see, and never saw it; tohear what you hear, and never heard it.	17 Vi dico, in verità, che molti profeti e molti giusti desiderarono vedere quello che voi vedete e non lo videro, e udire quello che voi udite e non l'udirono.
18 'So pay attention to the parable of the sower.	18 Voi dunque sentite la parabola del seminatore.
19 When anyone hears the word of the kingdom without understanding, the Evil One comes and carriesoff what was sown in his heart: this is the seed sown on the edge of the path.	19 Se uno ascolta la parabola del regno senza attenzione, viene il maligno e porta via quel che è stato seminato nel cuore di lui: questi è simboleggiato nel seme caduto lungo la strada.
20 The seed sown on patches of rock is someone who hears the word and welcomes it at once with joy.	20 Il seme caduto in luoghi sassosi rappresenta chi ode la parola e subito la riceve con gioia,
21 But such a person has no root deep down and does not last; should some trial come, or somepersecution on account of the word, at once he falls away.	21 ma non ha in sè radice e dura poco, e come venga la tribolazione e la persecuzione a causa della parola, subito resta scandalizzato.
22 The seed sown in thorns is someone who hears the word, but the worry of the world and the lure ofriches choke the word and so it produces nothing.	22 Colui che riceve il seme tra le spine è chi ascolta la parola; ma le cure mondane e l'inganno delle ricchezze l'affogano e la fanno rimanere infruttuosa.
23 And the seed sown in rich soil is someone who hears the word and understands it; this is the onewho yields a harvest and produces now a hundredfold, now sixty, now thirty.'	23 Quello poi che riceve il seme in buon terreno, è chi ascolta la parola e ci pone mente e porta frutto e dà ora il cento, ora il sessanta, ora il trenta.
24 He put another parable before them, 'The kingdom of Heaven may be compared to a man whosowed good seed in his field.	24 Propose loro quest'altra parabola, dicendo: Il regno dei cieli è simile ad un uomo che seminò buon seme nel suo campo.
25 While everybody was asleep his enemy came, sowed darnel all among the wheat, and made off.	25 Ma nel tempo che gli uomini dormivano, sen venne il suo nemico a seminare del loglio nel suo campo e se ne andò.
26 When the new wheat sprouted and ripened, then the darnel appeared as wel .	26 Come poi il seminato germogliò e granì, allora apparve anche il loglio.
27 The owner's labourers went to him and said, "Sir, was it not good seed that you sowed in your field?If so, where does the darnel come from?"	27 E i servi del padrone di casa andarono a dirgli: Signore, non hai seminato buon seme nel tuo campo? Come mai dunque c'è il loglio?
28 He said to them, "Some enemy has done this." And the labourers said, "Do you want us to go andweed it out?"	28 Ed egli rispose loro: Qualche nemico ha fatto questo. E i servi gli dissero: Vuoi che andiamo a sterparlo?
29 But he said, "No, because when you weed out the darnel you might pul up the wheat with it.	29 Ma egli: No, che, cogliendo il loglio, non sbarbiate con esso anche il grano.
30 Let them both grow til the harvest; and at harvest time I shall say to the reapers: First col ect thedarnel and tie it in bundles to be burnt, then gather the wheat into my barn." '	30 Lasciate che l'uno e l'altro crescano fino alla mietitura: e al tempo delia messe dirò ai mietitori: raccogliete prima il loglio e legatelo in fasci, per bruciarlo, il grano poi riponetelo nel mio granaio.
31 He put another parable before them, 'The kingdom of Heaven is like a mustard seed which a mantook and sowed in his field.	31 Propose loro un'altra parabola, dicendo: E' simile il regno dei cieli a un chicco di senapa che un uomo prese e seminò nel suo campo:
32 It is the smal est of all the seeds, but when it has grown it is the biggest of shrubs and becomes atree, so that the birds of the air can come and shelter in its branches.'	32 Esso è certamente il più piccolo dei semi, ma cresciuto che sia, è il maggiore di tutti gli erbaggi e diviene albero, tanto che gli uccelli del cielo vanno a posarsi tra i suoi rami.
33 He told them another parable, 'The kingdom of Heaven is like the yeast a woman took and mixed inwith three measures of flour til it was leavened al through.'	33 Disse loro un'altra parabola: Il regno dei cieli è simile al lievito che una donna prende e nasconde in tre misure di farina finché tutto fermenta.
34 In al this Jesus spoke to the crowds in parables; indeed, he would never speak to them except inparables.	34 Tutte queste cose Gesù le disse alle turbe in parabole, e non parlava loro che in parabole,
35 This was to fulfil what was spoken by the prophet: I will speak to you in parables, unfold what hasbeen hidden since the foundation of the world.	35 affìnchè a'adempisse quanto era stato detto dal profeta: Aprirò la mia bocca in parabole, manifesterò cose occulte fin dalla fondazione del mondo.
36 Then, leaving the crowds, he went to the house; and his disciples came to him and said, 'Explain tous the parable about the darnel in the field.'	36 Allora Gesù, licenziato il popolo, se ne tornò a casa: e, avvicinatisi a lui i suoi discepoli, gli dissero: Spiegaci la parabola del loglio nel campo.
37 He said in reply, 'The sower of the good seed is the Son of man.	37 Ed egli rispondendo disse loro: Colui che semina buon seme è il Figlio dell'uomo.
38 The field is the world; the good seed is the subjects of the kingdom; the darnel, the subjects of theEvil One;	38 Il campo è il mondo, il buon seme sono i figli del regno, il loglio poi sono i figli del maligno.
39 the enemy who sowed it, the devil; the harvest is the end of the world; the reapers are the angels.	39 Il nemico che ha seminato è il diavolo, la mietitura è la fine del mondo, i mietitori sono gli angeli.
40 Well then, just as the darnel is gathered up and burnt in the fire, so it wil be at the end of time.	40 E siccome si raccoglie il loglio e si brucia col fuoco, così avverrà alla fine del mondo.
41 The Son of man wil send his angels and they wil gather out of his kingdom al causes of fal ing andal who do evil,	41 Il Figlio dell'uomo manderà i suoi angeli che terranno dal suo regno tutti gli scandali e tutti gli operatori d'iniquità,
42 and throw them into the blazing furnace, where there will be weeping and grinding of teeth.	42 e li getteranno nella fornace ardente, ove sarà pianto e stridor di denti.
43 Then the upright will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Anyone who has ears shouldlisten!	43 Allora i giusti splenderanno come sole nel regno del loro Padre. Chi ha orecchi da intendere intenda.
44 'The kingdom of Heaven is like treasure hidden in a field which someone has found; he hides it again,goes off in his joy, sel s everything he owns and buys the field.	44 E' simile il regno dei cieli ad un tesoro nascosto in un campo, che un uomo, trovatolo, rinasconde, e tutto giulivo dell'accaduto, va a vendere quel che ha, e compra quel campo.
45 'Again, the kingdom of Heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls;	45 Ancora: il regno dei cieli ò simile ad un mercante che va in cerca di belle perle;
46 when he finds one of great value he goes and sells everything he owns and buys it.	46 e trovatane una di gran pregio, va a vendere quanto ha e la compra.
47 'Again, the kingdom of Heaven is like a dragnet that is cast in the sea and brings in a haul of al kindsof fish.	47 Il regno dei cieli è inoltre simile ad una rete gettata in mare, che ha preso ogni sorta di pesci.
48 When it is full, the fishermen bring it ashore; then, sitting down, they collect the good ones in basketsand throw away those that are no use.	48 Allorchè fu piena, tirarono a riva, e sedutisi, misero i buoni nei canestri e gettarono via i cattivi.
49 This is how it will be at the end of time: the angels wil appear and separate the wicked from theupright,	49 Così avverrà alla fine del mondo: verranno gli angeli e terranno i cattivi di mezzo ai giusti
50 to throw them into the blazing furnace, where there wil be weeping and grinding of teeth.	50 e li getteranno nella fornace di fuoco. Ivi sarà pianto e stridor di denti.
51 'Have you understood al these?' They said, 'Yes.'	51 Avete intese tutte queste cose? Gli dicono: Sì.
52 And he said to them, 'Wel then, every scribe who becomes a disciple of the kingdom of Heaven islike a householder who brings out from his storeroom new things as well as old.'	52 E disse loro: Per questo ogni Scriba istruito nel regno dei cieli, è simile ad un padre di famiglia che trae fuori dal suo tesoro cose nuove e cose vecchie.
53 When Jesus had finished these parables he left the district;	53 E finite che ebbe queste parabole, Gesù parti di là,
54 and, coming to his home town, he taught the people in their synagogue in such a way that they wereastonished and said, 'Where did the man get this wisdom and these miraculous powers?	54 e recatosi nella sua patria, insegnava nelle loro sinagoghe, in modo che rimanevano stupiti e dicevano: Onde mai ha costui questa sapienza e i miracoli?
55 This is the carpenter's son, surely? Is not his mother the woman cal ed Mary, and his brothers Jamesand Joseph and Simon and Jude?	55 Non è lui il figlio del legnaiuolo? sua madre non si chiama Maria e i suoi fratelli Giacomo, Giuseppe, Simone e Giuda?
56 His sisters, too, are they not al here with us? So where did the man get it all?'	56 E non son tra di noi tutte le sue sorelle? Donde mai sono venute a costui tutte queste cose?
57 And they would not accept him. But Jesus said to them, 'A prophet is despised only in his owncountry and in his own house,'	57 E si scandalizzavano di lui. Ma Gesù disse loro: Un profeta non è senza onore che nella sua patria e nella sua casa.
58 and he did not work many miracles there because of their lack of faith.	58 E a cagione della loro incredulità non vi fece molti miracoli.
