Hosea 5

NEW JERUSALEM	VULGATA
1 Hear this, you priests, listen, House of Israel, pay attention, royal House, for it is you who have justice inyour care, but you have been a snare at Mizpah and a net outspread on Tabor.	1 Audite hoc, sacerdotes, et attendite, domus Israël, et domus regis, auscultate : quia vobis judicium est, quoniam laqueus facti estis speculationi, et rete expansum super Thabor.
2 They have dug the ditch deep at Shittim and so I am going to punish them al .	2 Et victimas declinastis in profundum ; et ego eruditor omnium eorum.
3 Ephraim have I known, Israel is not hidden from me; and yet, Ephraim, you have played the whore,Israel is befouled.	3 Ego scio Ephraim, et Israël non est absconditus a me : quia nunc fornicatus est Ephraim ; contaminatus est Israël.
4 Their deeds do not al ow them to return to their God, since an urge to play the whore possesses themand they no longer know Yahweh.	4 Non dabunt cogitationes suas ut revertantur ad Deum suum, quia spiritus fornicationum in medio eorum, et Dominum non cognoverunt.
5 Israel's arrogance is his accuser, the guilt of Israel and Ephraim is their undoing, Judah too wil beundone with them.	5 Et respondebit arrogantia Israël in facie ejus, et Israël et Ephraim ruent in iniquitate sua : ruet etiam Judas cum eis.
6 Though they go in search of Yahweh with their sheep and cattle, they wil not find him; he haswithdrawn from them.	6 In gregibus suis et in armentis suis vadent ad quærendum Dominum, et non invenient : ablatus est ab eis.
7 They have betrayed Yahweh because they have fathered bastards; now the new moon wil devourthem and their fields.	7 In Dominum prævaricati sunt, quia filios alienos genuerunt : nunc devorabit eos mensis, cum partibus suis.
8 Sound the horn in Gibeah, the trumpet in Ramah, raise the war cry in Beth-Aven, 'We are behind you,Benjamin!'	8 Clangite buccina in Gabaa, tuba in Rama ; ululate in Bethaven, post tergum tuum, Benjamin.
9 When the day of punishment comes, Ephraim wil be a wasteland; on the tribes of Israel I havepronounced certain doom.	9 Ephraim in desolatione erit in die correptionis ; in tribubus Israël ostendi fidem.
10 The rulers of Judah act like men who move the boundary stone; I shall pour my wrath out on them likea flood.	10 Facti sunt principes Juda quasi assumentes terminum ; super eos effundam quasi aquam iram meam.
11 Ephraim is oppressed, crushed by the sentence, for having deliberately fol owed a Lie.	11 Calumniam patiens est Ephraim, fractus judicio, quoniam cœpit abire post sordes.
12 Because of this, I shall be like ringworm for Ephraim and like gangrene for the House of Judah.	12 Et ego quasi tinea Ephraim, et quasi putredo domui Juda.
13 Once Ephraim realised that he was sick and Judah that he had an ulcer, Ephraim then went toAssyria, he sent messengers to the Great King; but he has no power to cure you or to heal you of your sore;	13 Et vidit Ephraim languorem suum, et Juda vinculum suum ; et abiit Ephraim ad Assur, et misit ad regem ultorem : et ipse non poterit sanare vos, nec solvere poterit a vobis vinculum.
14 for I shal be like a lion to Ephraim, like a young lion to the House of Judah; I myself shal rend them,then go my way, shal carry them off, beyond hope of rescue.	14 Quoniam ego quasi leæna Ephraim, et quasi catulus leonis domui Juda. Ego, ego capiam, et vadam ; tollam, et non est qui eruat.
15 I shal go back to my place until they confess their guilt and seek me, seek me eagerly in their distress.	15 Vadens revertar ad locum meum, donec deficiatis, et quæratis faciem meam.
