Daniel 8

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 In the third year of King Belshazzar a vision appeared to me, Daniel, after the one that had original yappeared to me.	1 L'anno terzo del regno del re Baldassàr, io Daniele ebbi una visione, dopo quella avuta precedentemente.
2 I gazed at the vision, and as I gazed I found myself in Susa, the citadel in the province of Elam; gazingat the vision, I found myself at the Ulai Gate.	2 Io guardavo nella visione. Vedevo che mi trovavo a Susa, una fortezza situata nella provincia di Elam. Vedevo anche che mi trovavo lungo la riva del fiume Ulai.
3 I raised my eyes to look, and I saw a ram standing in front of the gate. It had two horns; both were tal ,but one tal er than the other, and the one that rose the higher was the second.	3 Alzai gli occhi per guardare. Ecco, un ariete stava al di là del fiume. Aveva due corna, due corna alte, ma uno più alto dell'altro, benché quello più alto fosse spuntato dopo.
4 I saw the ram butting westwards, northwards and southwards. No animal could stand up to it, nothingcould escape its power. It did as it pleased and became strong.	4 Poi vidi l'ariete correre verso l'ovest, verso il nord e verso il sud. Nessun animale poteva resistergli e nessuno scampava davanti alla sua forza; così fece quello che volle e diventò grande.
5 This is what I observed: a he-goat from the west, encroaching over the entire surface of the worldthough never touching the ground, and between its eyes the goat had one majestic horn.	5 Mentre stavo considerando, ecco un capro veniva dall'ovest, dopo aver percorso tutta la terra senza nemmeno toccarla. Il capro aveva uno splendido corno in mezzo agli occhi.
6 It advanced on the two-horned ram, which I had seen standing in front of the gate, and charged at it inthe full force of its fury.	6 Si avvicinò all'ariete, che aveva due corna, che io avevo visto in piedi al di là del fiume, e si avventò contro di lui con la vigoria della sua forza.
7 I saw it reach the ram; it was enraged with the ram and struck it, breaking both its horns, so that theram was not strong enough to hold its ground; it threw it to the ground and trampled it underfoot; no one wasthere to rescue the ram.	7 Lo vidi accostarsi all'ariete e accanirsi contro di lui; lo colpì e gli strappò le due corna, senza che l'ariete avesse la forza di resistergli; lo gettò a terra e lo calpestò, senza che nessuno liberasse l'ariete dalla sua violenza.
8 The he-goat then grew more powerful than ever; but at the height of its strength the great hornsnapped, and in its place sprouted four majestic horns, pointing to the four winds of heaven.	8 Il capro divenne molto potente, ma, nonostante la sua grandezza, il suo corno grande si spezzò e al suo posto ne crebbero quattro splendide in direzione dei quattro venti del cielo.
9 From one of these, the smal one, sprang a horn which grew to great size towards south and east andtowards the Land of Splendour.	9 Da uno di questi uscì un altro piccolo corno, che si ingrandì verso il sud, verso l'ovest e verso il paese dello Splendore.
10 It grew right up to the armies of heaven and flung armies and stars to the ground, and trampled themunderfoot.	10 S'innalzò fino alla milizia del cielo e precipitò sulla terra parte della milizia e delle stelle e le calpestò.
11 It even challenged the power of the Prince of the army; it abolished the perpetual sacrifice andoverthrew the foundation of his sanctuary,	11 Salì fino all'altezza del Principe della milizia celeste, a lui fu tolto il sacrificio perpetuo e fu rimosso il fondamento della sua oblazione.
12 and the army too; over the sacrifice it installed iniquity and flung truth to the ground; the horn wasactive and successful.	12 Una milizia fu incaricata del sacrificio perpetuo sacrilego e la verità fu gettata a terra. Così fece ed ebbe successo.
13 I heard a holy one speaking, and another holy one say to the speaker, 'How long is this vision to be --of perpetual sacrifice, of horrifying iniquity, of sanctuary and army trampled underfoot?'	13 Allora intesi un Santo che parlava e un altro Santo disse a quello che parlava: "Fino a quando durerà la visione: il sacrificio perpetuo rimosso, l'empietà devastatrice che vi è stata installata e il santuario e la milizia celeste conculcati?".
14 The first replied, 'Until two thousand three hundred evenings and mornings have gone by: then thesanctuary wil have its rights restored.'	14 Gli rispose: "Ancora duemilatrecento sere e mattine! Allora sarà fatta giustizia al santuario!".
15 As I, Daniel, gazed at the vision and tried to understand it, I saw someone standing in front of me wholooked like a man.	15 Ora, mentre io Daniele contemplavo la visione e ne cercavo il significato, ecco stette di fronte a me uno con la figura di uomo.
16 I heard a human voice cry over the Ulai, 'Gabriel, tell him the meaning of the vision!'	16 Intesi la voce di un uomo sull'Ulai che gridava e diceva: "Gabriele, spiega a costui la visione!".
17 He approached the place where I was standing; as he approached, I was seized with terror and fellprostrate on the ground. 'Son of man,' he said to me, 'understand this: the vision shows the time of the End.'	17 Egli si diresse verso il luogo dove io stavo e mentre costui si avvicinava io fui preso da spavento e mi prostrai fino a terra. Mi disse: "Sappi, figlio di uomo, che la visione è per il tempo della fine!".
18 He was stil speaking, when I fainted, face downwards on the ground. He touched me, however, andraised me to my feet.	18 E mentre costui mi parlava, io restavo prostrato con la faccia sino a terra. Ma egli mi toccò e mi fece stare ritto in piedi.
19 'Come,' he said, 'I shall tel you what is going to happen when the Retribution is over, about the finaltimes.	19 Disse: "Ecco, ti faccio conoscere quello che avverrà alla fine della collera, perché riguarda la data della fine!
20 As for the ram which you saw, its two horns are the kings of Media and of Persia.	20 L'ariete che tu hai visto, fornito di due corna, sono i re della Media e della Persia;
21 The hairy he-goat is the king of Greece, the large horn between its eyes is the first king.	21 il capro invece è il re della Grecia; il grande corno poi che tu hai visto in mezzo agli occhi, costui è il primo re;
22 The horn which snapped and the four horns which sprouted in its place are four kingdoms rising fromhis nation but not having his strength.	22 il corno spezzato e le quattro corna che sono sorte al suo posto sono quattro regni che sorgeranno dalla sua nazione, ma non avranno la sua stessa potenza.
23 'And at the end of their reign, when the measure of their sins is ful , a king wil arise, a proud-faced,ingenious-minded man.	23 Ma alla fine del loro regno, quando i peccati saranno giunti al colmo, sorgerà un re, truce di aspetto e conoscitore di enigmi.
24 His power will grow greater and greater, though not through any power of his own; he wil plotincredible schemes, he wil succeed in whatever he undertakes, he wil destroy powerful men and the holy ones,God's people.	24 La sua potenza crescerà, ma non per la sua propria forza; tramerà cose che avranno del prodigioso e avrà successo nelle sue imprese; distruggerà le potenze e il popolo dei santi.
25 Such wil be his resourcefulness of mind that all his treacherous activities wil succeed. He wil growarrogant of heart and destroy many people by taking them unawares. He wil chal enge the power of the Princeof princes but, without any human intervention, he will be broken.	25 Contro i santi userà la sua intelligenza e l'inganno avrà successo nelle sue mani. Si gonfierà nel suo cuore e con la sorpresa distruggerà molti. Si ergerà di fronte al Principe dei prìncipi, ma senza intervento umano sarà distrutto.
26 The vision of the evenings and the mornings which has been revealed is true, but you must keep thevision secret, for there are stil many days to go.'	26 La visione delle sere e delle mattine che è stata mostrata è verace. Ma tu conserva la visione in silenzio, perché dovranno passare molti giorni!".
27 At this I, Daniel, lost consciousness; I was il for several days. Then I got up to discharge my duties inthe king's service, keeping the vision a secret and still not understanding what it meant.	27 Allora io Daniele rimasi come sfinito e malato per molti giorni. Poi mi riebbi e ripresi il mio servizio presso il re, conservando il silenzio sulla visione, che non riuscivo a capire.
