Daniel 8

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLIA
1 In the third year of King Belshazzar a vision appeared to me, Daniel, after the one that had original yappeared to me.	1 El año tercero del reinado del rey Baltasar, yo, Daniel, tuve una visión después de la tenida anteriormente.
2 I gazed at the vision, and as I gazed I found myself in Susa, the citadel in the province of Elam; gazingat the vision, I found myself at the Ulai Gate.	2 Miré durante la visión y me veía en Susa, la plaza fuerte que está en la provincia de Elam; en la visión miré, y me encontraba en la puerta del Ulay.
3 I raised my eyes to look, and I saw a ram standing in front of the gate. It had two horns; both were tal ,but one tal er than the other, and the one that rose the higher was the second.	3 Levanté los ojos para ver, y vi un carnero que estaba delante de la puerta. Tenía dos cuernos; los dos cuernos eran altos, pero uno más que otro y el más alto había despuntado el último.
4 I saw the ram butting westwards, northwards and southwards. No animal could stand up to it, nothingcould escape its power. It did as it pleased and became strong.	4 Vi que el carnero acometía contra el oeste, el norte y el sur. Ninguna bestia podía resistirle, nada podía escapar a su poder. Hacía lo que le parecía y así se hizo grande.
5 This is what I observed: a he-goat from the west, encroaching over the entire surface of the worldthough never touching the ground, and between its eyes the goat had one majestic horn.	5 Estaba yo cavilando, y he aquí que un macho cabrío vino de occidente, recorriendo la tierra entera sin tocar el suelo; este macho cabrío tenía un cuerno «magnífico» entre los ojos.
6 It advanced on the two-horned ram, which I had seen standing in front of the gate, and charged at it inthe full force of its fury.	6 Vino donde el carnero de dos cuernos que yo había visto en pie delante de la puerta y corrió hacia él con todo el ardor de su fuerza.
7 I saw it reach the ram; it was enraged with the ram and struck it, breaking both its horns, so that theram was not strong enough to hold its ground; it threw it to the ground and trampled it underfoot; no one wasthere to rescue the ram.	7 Vi cómo alcanzaba al carnero, enfurecido contra él; embistió al carnero, y le rompió los dos cuernos, sin que el carnero tuviera fuerzas para resistirle; lo echó por tierra y lo pisoteó; no había nadie que librara al carnero de su mano.
8 The he-goat then grew more powerful than ever; but at the height of its strength the great hornsnapped, and in its place sprouted four majestic horns, pointing to the four winds of heaven.	8 El macho cabrío se hizo muy grande, pero cuando estaba en la plenitud de su poder, el gran cuerno se rompió y en su lugar despuntaron cuatro «magníficos» en la dirección de los cuatro vientos del cielo.
9 From one of these, the smal one, sprang a horn which grew to great size towards south and east andtowards the Land of Splendour.	9 De uno de ellos salió un cuerno, pequeño, que creció mucho en dirección del sur, del oriente y de la Tierra del Esplendor.
10 It grew right up to the armies of heaven and flung armies and stars to the ground, and trampled themunderfoot.	10 Creció hasta el ejército del cielo, precipitó en tierra parte del ejército y de las estrellas, y las pisoteó con sus pies.
11 It even challenged the power of the Prince of the army; it abolished the perpetual sacrifice andoverthrew the foundation of his sanctuary,	11 Llegó incluso hasta el Jefe del ejército, abolió el sacrificio perpetuo y sacudió el cimiento de su santuario
12 and the army too; over the sacrifice it installed iniquity and flung truth to the ground; the horn wasactive and successful.	12 y al ejército; en el lugar del sacrificio puso la iniquidad y tiró por tierra la verdad; así obró y le acompañó el éxito.
13 I heard a holy one speaking, and another holy one say to the speaker, 'How long is this vision to be --of perpetual sacrifice, of horrifying iniquity, of sanctuary and army trampled underfoot?'	13 Oí entonces a un santo que hablaba, y a otro santo que decía al que hablaba: «¿Hasta cuándo la visión: el sacrificio perpetuo, la iniquidad desoladora, el santuario y el ejército pisoteados?»
14 The first replied, 'Until two thousand three hundred evenings and mornings have gone by: then thesanctuary wil have its rights restored.'	14 Le respondió: «Hasta dos mil trescientas tardes y mañanas: después será reivindicado el santuario».
15 As I, Daniel, gazed at the vision and tried to understand it, I saw someone standing in front of me wholooked like a man.	15 Mientras yo, Daniel, contemplaba esta visión y trataba de comprenderla, vi de pronto delante de mí como una apariencia de hombre,
16 I heard a human voice cry over the Ulai, 'Gabriel, tell him the meaning of the vision!'	16 y oí una voz de hombre, sobre el Ulay, que gritaba: «Gabriel, explícale a éste la visión».
17 He approached the place where I was standing; as he approached, I was seized with terror and fellprostrate on the ground. 'Son of man,' he said to me, 'understand this: the vision shows the time of the End.'	17 El se acercó al lugar donde yo estaba y, cuando llegó, me aterroricé y caí de bruces. Me dijo: «Hijo de hombre, entiende: la visión se refiere al tiempo del Fin».
18 He was stil speaking, when I fainted, face downwards on the ground. He touched me, however, andraised me to my feet.	18 Mientras él me hablaba, yo me desvanecí, rostro en tierra. El me tocó y me hizo incorporarme donde estaba.
19 'Come,' he said, 'I shall tel you what is going to happen when the Retribution is over, about the finaltimes.	19 Luego dijo: «Mira, voy a manifestarte lo que ocurrirá al fin de la Ira, porque el Fin está fijado.
20 As for the ram which you saw, its two horns are the kings of Media and of Persia.	20 El carnero que has visto, sus dos cuernos, son los reyes de los medos y los persas.
21 The hairy he-goat is the king of Greece, the large horn between its eyes is the first king.	21 El macho cabrío velludo es el rey de Yaván; el cuerno grande entre sus ojos, es el primer rey.
22 The horn which snapped and the four horns which sprouted in its place are four kingdoms rising fromhis nation but not having his strength.	22 El cuerno roto y los cuatro cuernos que despuntaron en su lugar, son cuatro reinos salidos de su nación, pero que no tendrán su fuerza.
23 'And at the end of their reign, when the measure of their sins is ful , a king wil arise, a proud-faced,ingenious-minded man.	23 «Y al término de su reino, cuando lleguen al colmo los pecados, surgirá un rey, insolente y hábil en engaños.
24 His power will grow greater and greater, though not through any power of his own; he wil plotincredible schemes, he wil succeed in whatever he undertakes, he wil destroy powerful men and the holy ones,God's people.	24 Se hará poderosa su fuerza - mas no por su fuerza misma - tramará cosas inauditas, prosperará en sus empresas, destruirá a poderosos y al pueblo de los santos.
25 Such wil be his resourcefulness of mind that all his treacherous activities wil succeed. He wil growarrogant of heart and destroy many people by taking them unawares. He wil chal enge the power of the Princeof princes but, without any human intervention, he will be broken.	25 Y, por su habilidad, triunfará el engaño entre sus manos. Se exaltará en su corazón, y por sorpresa destruirá a muchos. Se alzará contra el Príncipe de los Príncipes, pero - sin que mano alguna intervenga - será quebrantado.
26 The vision of the evenings and the mornings which has been revealed is true, but you must keep thevision secret, for there are stil many days to go.'	26 Es verdad la visión de las tardes y mañanas que se ha dicho, mas tú guarda en secreto la visión, pues habrá aún para muchos días».
27 At this I, Daniel, lost consciousness; I was il for several days. Then I got up to discharge my duties inthe king's service, keeping the vision a secret and still not understanding what it meant.	27 Yo, Daniel, desfallecí y estuve enfermo unos cuantos días. Luego me levanté para ocuparme de los asuntos del rey. Seguía perplejo por la visión, que no se podía comprender.
