Leviticus 16

NEW JERUSALEM	JERUSALEM
1 Yahweh spoke to Moses after the death of the two sons of Aaron who died when offering unauthorisedfire.	1 Yahvé parla à Moïse après la mort des deux fils d'Aaron qui périrent en présentant devant Yahvéun feu irrégulier.
2 Yahweh spoke to Moses and said: 'Tel Aaron your brother that he may not enter the sanctuary insidethe curtain in front of the mercy-seat on the ark whenever he chooses, in case he incurs death, for I appear in acloud on the mercy-seat.	2 Yahvé dit à Moïse: Parle à Aaron ton frère: qu'il n'entre pas à n'importe quel moment dans lesanctuaire derrière le voile, en face du propitiatoire qui se trouve sur l'arche. Il pourrait mourir, car j'apparais au-dessus du propitiatoire dans une nuée.
3 'This is how he must enter the sanctuary: with a young bul for a sacrifice for sin and a ram for a burntoffering.	3 Voici comment il pénétrera dans le sanctuaire: avec un taureau destiné à un sacrifice pour lepéché et un bélier pour un holocauste.
4 He will put on a tunic of consecrated linen, wear linen drawers on his body, a linen waistband round hiswaist, and a linen turban on his head. These are the sacred vestments he wil put on after washing himself.	4 Il revêtira une tunique de lin consacrée, il portera à même le corps un caleçon de lin, il se ceindrad'une ceinture de lin, il s'enroulera sur la tête un turban de lin. Ce sont des vêtements sacrés qu'il revêtira aprèss'être lavé à l'eau.
5 'From the community of Israelites he wil receive two he-goats for a sacrifice for sin and a ram for aburnt offering.	5 Il recevra de la communauté des enfants d'Israël deux boucs destinés à un sacrifice pour le péchéet un bélier pour un holocauste.
6 After offering the bul as a sacrifice for his own sin and performing the rite of expiation for himself andhis family,	6 Après avoir offert le taureau du sacrifice pour son propre péché et fait le rite d'expiation pour luiet pour sa maison,
7 he wil take the two he-goats and place them before Yahweh at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting.	7 Aaron prendra ces deux boucs et les placera devant Yahvé à l'entrée de la Tente du Rendez-vous.
8 Aaron wil then draw lots over the two goats, one lot to be for Yahweh and the other lot for Azazel.	8 Il tirera les sorts pour les deux boucs, attribuant un sort à Yahvé et l'autre à Azazel.
9 Aaron wil then take the goat on which the lot "For Yahweh" has fal en, and offer it as a sacrifice for sin.	9 Aaron offrira le bouc sur lequel est tombé le sort "A Yahvé" et en fera un sacrifice pour le péché.
10 But the goat on which the lot "For Azazel" has fal en, will be placed alive before Yahweh, for the riteof expiation to be performed with it, and for it then to be sent to Azazel in the desert.	10 Quant au bouc sur lequel est tombé le sort "A Azazel", on le placera vivant devant Yahvé pourfaire sur lui le rite d'expiation, pour l'envoyer à Azazel dans le désert.
11 'Having offered the bul as a sacrifice for his own sin and performed the rite of expiation for himselfand for his family, and slaughtered the bul as a sacrifice for sin,	11 Aaron offrira le taureau du sacrifice pour son propre péché, puis il fera le rite d'expiation pourlui et pour sa maison et immolera ce taureau.
12 Aaron wil then fill a censer with live coals from the altar before Yahweh, take two handfuls of finelyground aromatic incense and bring this inside the curtain.	12 Il remplira alors un encensoir avec des charbons ardents pris sur l'autel, de devant Yahvé, et ilprendra deux pleines poignées d'encens fin aromatique. Il portera le tout derrière le rideau,
13 He wil then put the incense on the fire before Yahweh, so that the cloud of incense hides the mercy-seat which is on the Testimony and he does not incur death.	13 et déposera l'encens sur le feu devant Yahvé; il recouvrira d'un nuage d'encens le propitiatoirequi est sur le Témoignage, et ne mourra pas.
14 He wil then take some of the bul 's blood and sprinkle it with his finger on the eastern side of themercy-seat. He will sprinkle some of the blood seven times with his finger in front of the mercy-seat.	14 Puis il prendra du sang du taureau et en aspergera avec le doigt le côté oriental du propitiatoire;devant le propitiatoire il fera de ce sang sept aspersions avec le doigt.
15 'He wil then slaughter the goat for the sacrifice for the sin of the people, and take its blood inside thecurtain, and with this blood do as he did with the blood of the bull, sprinkling it on the mercy-seat and in front ofit.	15 Il immolera alors le bouc destiné au sacrifice pour le péché du peuple et il en portera le sangderrière le rideau. Il procédera avec ce sang comme avec celui du taureau, en faisant des aspersions sur lepropitiatoire et devant celui-ci.
16 This is how he must perform the rite of expiation for the sanctuary for the uncleanness of theIsraelites, for their acts of rebel ion and al their sins. 'And this is what he must do for the Tent of Meeting whichremains with them, surrounded by their uncleanness.	16 Il fera ainsi le rite d'expiation sur le sanctuaire pour les impuretés des Israélites, pour leurstransgressions et pour tous leurs péchés. Ainsi procédera-t-il pour la Tente du Rendez-vous qui demeure aveceux au milieu de leurs impuretés.
17 No one must be inside the Tent of Meeting, from the moment he enters to make expiation in thesanctuary until the time he comes out. 'When he has made expiation for himself, for his family, and for the wholecommunity of Israel,	17 Que personne ne se trouve dans la Tente du Rendez-vous depuis l'instant où il entrera pour fairel'expiation dans le sanctuaire jusqu'à ce qu'il en sorte! Quand il aura fait l'expiation pour lui, pour sa maison etpour toute la communauté d'Israël,
18 he must come outside, go to the altar before Yahweh and perform the rite of expiation for it. He willtake some of the bul 's blood and some of the goat's blood and put it on the horns at the corners of the altar alaround it,	18 il sortira, ira à l'autel qui est devant Yahvé et fera sur l'autel le rite d'expiation. Il prendra dusang du taureau et du sang du bouc et il en mettra sur les cornes au pourtour de l'autel.
19 and sprinkle some of the blood on it seven times with his finger, thus purifying it and setting it apartfrom the uncleanness of the Israelites.	19 De ce sang il fera sept aspersions sur l'autel avec son doigt. Ainsi le purifiera-t-il et le séparera-t-il des impuretés des enfants d'Israël.
20 'Once expiation for the sanctuary, the Tent of Meeting and the altar is complete, he will bring the goatwhich is stil alive.	20 Une fois achevée l'expiation du sanctuaire, de la Tente de Rendez-vous et de l'autel, il feraapprocher le bouc encore vivant.
21 Aaron wil then lay both his hands on its head and over it confess al the guilt of the Israelites, al theiracts of rebel ion and all their sins. Having thus laid them on the goat's head, he will send it out into the desertunder the charge of a man waiting ready,	21 Aaron lui posera les deux mains sur la tête et confessera à sa charge toutes les fautes desIsraélites, toutes leurs transgressions et tous leurs péchés. Après en avoir ainsi chargé la tête du bouc, il l'enverraau désert sous la conduite d'un homme qui se tiendra prêt,
22 and the goat wil bear all their guilt away into some desolate place. 'When he has sent the goat intothe desert,	22 et le bouc emportera sur lui toutes leurs fautes en un lieu aride. Quand il aura envoyé le bouc audésert,
23 Aaron wil go back into the Tent of Meeting and take off the linen vestments which he wore to enterthe sanctuary and leave them there.	23 Aaron rentrera dans la Tente du Rendez-vous, retirera les vêtements de lin qu'il avait mis pourentrer au sanctuaire. Il les déposera là,
24 He wil then wash his body inside the holy place, put on his vestments and come outside to offer hisown and the people's burnt offering. He wil perform the rite of expiation for himself and for the people,	24 et se lavera le corps avec de l'eau dans un lieu consacré. Puis il reprendra ses vêtements etsortira pour offrir son holocauste et celui du peuple. Il fera le rite d'expiation pour lui et pour le peuple;
25 and burn the fat of the sacrifice for sin on the altar.	25 la graisse du sacrifice pour le péché, il la fera fumer à l'autel.
26 'The man who led the goat away to Azazel wil wash his clothes and body before entering the camp.	26 Celui qui aura conduit le bouc à Azazel devra nettoyer ses vêtements et se laver le corps avecde l'eau, après quoi il pourra rentrer au camp.
27 The bul and the goat offered as a sacrifice for sin, the blood of which was taken into the sanctuary forthe rite of expiation, must be taken outside the camp, where their skin, meat and offal are to be burnt.	27 Quant au taureau et au bouc offerts en sacrifice pour le péché et dont le sang a été porté dans lesanctuaire pour faire le rite d'expiation, on les emportera hors du camp et l'on brûlera dans un feu leur peau, leurchair et leur fiente.
28 The man who burns them wil wash his clothes and body before entering the camp.	28 Celui qui les aura brûlés devra nettoyer ses vêtements, se laver le corps avec de l'eau, après quoiil pourra rentrer au camp.
29 'This wil be a perpetual law for you. 'On the tenth day of the seventh month you will fast and refrainfrom work, both citizen and resident alien;	29 Cela sera pour vous une loi perpétuelle. Au septième mois, le dixième jour du mois, vousjeûnerez, et ne ferez aucun travail, pas plus le citoyen que l'étranger qui réside parmi vous.
30 for this is the day on which the rite of expiation will be performed for you to purify you, to purify youbefore Yahweh from al your sins.	30 C'est en effet en ce jour que l'on fera sur vous le rite d'expiation pour vous purifier. Vous serezpurs devant Yahvé de tous vos péchés.
31 It wil be a sabbatical rest for you and you wil fast. This is a perpetual law.	31 Ce sera pour vous un repos sabbatique et vous jeûnerez. C'est une loi perpétuelle.
32 'The rite of expiation wil be performed by the priest who has been anointed and instal ed to officiatein succession to his father. He wil put on the linen vestments, the sacred vestments,	32 Le prêtre qui aura reçu l'onction et l'investiture pour officier à la place de son père fera le rited'expiation. Il revêtira les vêtements de lin, vêtements sacrés;
33 and perform the rite of expiation for the holy sanctuary, the Tent of Meeting and the altar, and wilthen perform the rite of expiation for the priests and al the people of the community.	33 il fera l'expiation du sanctuaire consacré, de la Tente du Rendez-vous et de l'autel. Il feraensuite le rite d'expiation sur les prêtres et sur tout le peuple de la communauté.
34 This wil be a perpetual law for you; once a year the rite of expiation wil be made for the Israelites foral their sins.' And as Yahweh ordered Moses, so it was done.	34 Cela sera pour vous une loi perpétuelle; une fois par an se fera sur les enfants d'Israël le rited'expiation pour tous leurs péchés. Et l'on fit comme Yahvé l'avait ordonné à Moïse.
