Isaiah 33

1 Woe to you, destroying though not yourself destroyed, betraying though not yourself betrayed; whenyou have finished destroying, you wil be destroyed, when you have stopped betraying, you wil be betrayed.	1 Guai a te, saccheggiatore! Non sarai anche tu saccheggiato? Guai a te, schernitore! Non sarai anche tu schernito? Quando avrai finito di saccheggiare, sarai saccheggiato, quando, stanco, finirai di schernire, sarai schernito.
2 Yahweh, show us your mercy, we hope in you. Be our arm every morning and our salvation in time ofdistress.	2 Signore, abbi pietà di noi: in te abbiamo poste le speranze: sii il nostro braccio al mattino e la nostra salvezza nel tempo della tribolazione.
3 At the sound of tumult the peoples flee, when you stand up the nations scatter.	3 Alla voce dell'angelo fuggirono i popoli, appena ti sei alzato sono state disperse le nazioni.
4 Your spoil is gathered in as a grasshopper gathers in, like a swarm of locusts people descend on it.	4 Le vostre spoglie saran raccolte come si raccolgono i bruchi quando ne son piene le fosse.
5 Yahweh is exalted, for he is enthroned above, he has fil ed Zion with fair judgement and saving justice.	5 E' stato esaltato il Signore, chè abita nell'alto, ha ripiena Sion di equità e di giustizia.
6 You can count on this al your days: wisdom and knowledge are the riches that save, the fear ofYahweh is his treasure.	6 Ai tuoi giorni regnerà la fedeltà, la sapienza e la scienza, ricchezza della salute; il timore del Signore è ii suo tesoro.
7 Look, Ariel is lamenting in the streets, the ambassadors of peace are weeping bitterly.	7 Ecco al vedere gridano di fuori, i messaggeri di pace piangono amaramente.
8 The highways are deserted, no travel ers any more on the roads. Agreements are broken, witnessesheld in contempt, there is respect for no one.	8 Le strade son deserte: han cessato di passar per la via, è rotto il patto: ha atterrato le città, non fa conto degli uomini.
9 The land pines away in mourning, the Lebanon is withering with shame, Sharon has become like thewasteland, Bashan and Carmel are shuddering.	9 E' in pianto e abbattuta la terra, il Libano è confuso e avvilito, il Saron è diventato come un deserto, restano spogliati il Basan e il Carmelo.
10 'Now I shal stand up,' says Yahweh, 'now I shal rise, now draw myself up.	10 «Ora m'alzerò io — dice il Signore — ora m'esalterò, ora m'innalzerò.
11 You conceive chaff, you give birth to straw: like fire, my breath wil devour you.	11 Concepirete fiamme e partorirete paglia, il vostro alito vi divorerà come fuoco.
12 The peoples will be burnt up as though by quicklime, like cut thorns they wil be burnt on the fire.	12 E i popoli saranno come cenere d'incendio; bruceranno come pruni ammassati nel fuoco.
13 You who are far away, listen to what I have done, and you who are near, realise my strength.'	13 Voi che siete lontani, sentite le cose che ho fatte; e voi, o vicini, riconoscete la mia potenza ».
14 The sinners in Zion are panic-stricken and fear seizes on the godless, 'Which of us can survive thedevouring fire, which of us survive everlasting burning?'	14 Si son atterriti in Sion i peccatori, il tremito ha invaso gli ipocriti. Chi di voi potrà stare col fuoco divoratore? Chi di voi potrà stare nelle fiamme eterne?
15 The one who acts uprightly and speaks honestly, who scorns to get rich by extortion, who rejectsbribes out of hand, who refuses to listen to plans involving bloodshed and shuts his eyes rather thancountenance crime:	15 Chi procede nella giustizia e dice il vero, chi aborrisce il guadagno della calunnia, e scuote dalle sue mani ogni regalo, chi si tura le orecchie per non sentir parlare di sangue e chiude gli occhi per non vedere il male.
16 such a man wil live on the heights, the craggy rocks wil be his refuge, he wil be fed, he wil not wantfor water.	16 Egli abiterà in luogo eccelso, le fortezze delle rupi saran la sua alta dimora: gli è dato il pane, le sue acque non mancheranno.
17 Your eyes will gaze on the king in his beauty, they wil look on a country stretching far and wide.	17 I suoi occhi vedranno il re nella sua gloria, mireranno da lungi la terra.
18 Your heart wil meditate on past terrors, 'Where is the man who did the counting? Where is the manwho did the weighing? Where is the man who counted off the towers?'	18 Il tuo cuore ripenserà allo spavento: dov'è il letterato? Dov'è colui che pesa le parole della legge? Dov'è il maestro dei bambini?
19 No more wil you see that insolent people, that people of unintel igible speech, of barbarous andmeaningless tongue.	19 Il popolo insolente tu non lo vedrai, il popolo dal linguaggio sì oscuro da non intendersi, la barbara sua lingua priva d'ogni sapienza.
20 Gaze at Zion, city of our feasts; your eyes wil see Jerusalem as a home that is secure, a tent not tobe moved, none of its tent-pegs ever to be pul ed out, none of its guy-ropes ever to be broken.	20 Rivolgi lo sguardo a Sion, la città delle nostre feste; i tuoi occhi vedranno Gerusalemme, dimora dell'abbondanza, tenda che non potrà mai essere trasportata: i suoi pioli non saranno tolti in eterno e nessuna delle sue corde sarà rotta;
21 There it is that Yahweh shows us his power, like a place of rivers and very wide canals on which willrow no galley, over which wil pass no majestic ship.	21 perchè lì soltanto è magnifico ii nostro Signore, e il luogo dei fiumi, dei canali larghissimi e spaziosi: non vi passerà nave a remi, non vi potran passare nemmeno le grandi triremi.
22 (For Yahweh is our judge, Yahweh our lawgiver, Yahweh is our king and our Saviour.)	22 Il Signore è il nostro giudice, il Signore è il nostro legislatore, il Signore è il nostro re: Egli ci salverà.
23 Your tackle has given way, it cannot support the mast, it cannot hoist the pennon. And so there ismuch booty to be shared out; the lame fal to plundering,	23 I tuoi cordami si sono allentati, non reggeranno, e così l'albero sarà in tale stato da non potervi spiegare lo stendardo. Allora divideranno le spoglie delle abbondanti prede: gli zoppi andranno a far bottino;
24 and no one living there wil say, 'I am sickly'; the people living there wil find their guilt forgiven.	24 e nessun vicino dirà: « Io son malato »: sarà tolta l'iniquità dal popolo che abita in (Sion).
