Isaiah 33

NEW JERUSALEM	DIODATI
1 Woe to you, destroying though not yourself destroyed, betraying though not yourself betrayed; whenyou have finished destroying, you wil be destroyed, when you have stopped betraying, you wil be betrayed.	1 GUAI a te che predi, e non sei stato predato; e a te, o disleale, che non sei stato trattato dislealmente! quando avrai finito di predare, sarai predato; quando avrai cessato di operar dislealmente, sarai trattato dislealmente.
2 Yahweh, show us your mercy, we hope in you. Be our arm every morning and our salvation in time ofdistress.	2 O Signore, abbi pietà di noi, noi ti abbiamo aspettato; sii il braccio di costoro per ogni mattina; ed anche la nostra salute al tempo della distretta.
3 At the sound of tumult the peoples flee, when you stand up the nations scatter.	3 I popoli se ne son fuggiti per lo suon dello strepito; le genti sono state disperse per lo tuo innalzamento.
4 Your spoil is gathered in as a grasshopper gathers in, like a swarm of locusts people descend on it.	4 E la vostra preda sarà raccolta come si raccolgono i bruchi; egli scorrerà per mezzo loro, come scorrono le locuste.
5 Yahweh is exalted, for he is enthroned above, he has fil ed Zion with fair judgement and saving justice.	5 Il Signore è innalzato; perciocchè egli abita un luogo eccelso; egli empierà Sion di giudicio e di giustizia.
6 You can count on this al your days: wisdom and knowledge are the riches that save, the fear ofYahweh is his treasure.	6 E la fermezza de’ tuoi tempi, e la forza delle tue liberazioni sarà sapienza, e scienza; il timor del Signore sarà il suo tesoro.
7 Look, Ariel is lamenting in the streets, the ambassadors of peace are weeping bitterly.	7 Ecco, i loro araldi hanno gridato di fuori; i messi della pace hanno pianto amaramente.
8 The highways are deserted, no travel ers any more on the roads. Agreements are broken, witnessesheld in contempt, there is respect for no one.	8 Le strade son deserte, i viandanti son cessati. Egli ha rotto il patto, ha disdegnata le città, non ha fatta alcuna stima degli uomini.
9 The land pines away in mourning, the Lebanon is withering with shame, Sharon has become like thewasteland, Bashan and Carmel are shuddering.	9 La terra fa cordoglio, e languisce; il Libano è confuso, e tagliato; Saron è divenuto come un deserto; e Basan e Carmel sono stati scossi.
10 'Now I shal stand up,' says Yahweh, 'now I shal rise, now draw myself up.	10 Ora mi leverò, dirà il Signore; ora m’innalzerò, ora sarò esaltato.
11 You conceive chaff, you give birth to straw: like fire, my breath wil devour you.	11 Voi concepirete della pula, e partorirete della stoppia; la vostra ira sarà un fuoco che vi divorerà.
12 The peoples will be burnt up as though by quicklime, like cut thorns they wil be burnt on the fire.	12 E i popoli saranno come fornaci da calcina; saranno arsi col fuoco come spine tagliate
13 You who are far away, listen to what I have done, and you who are near, realise my strength.'	13 Ascoltate, lontani, ciò che io ho fatto; e voi, vicini, conoscete la mia forza.
14 The sinners in Zion are panic-stricken and fear seizes on the godless, 'Which of us can survive thedevouring fire, which of us survive everlasting burning?'	14 I peccatori saranno spaventati in Sion, tremito occuperà gl’ipocriti, e diranno: Chi di nio dimorerà col fuoco divorante? Chi di noi dimorerà con gli ardori eterni?
15 The one who acts uprightly and speaks honestly, who scorns to get rich by extortion, who rejectsbribes out of hand, who refuses to listen to plans involving bloodshed and shuts his eyes rather thancountenance crime:	15 Colui che cammina in ogni giustizia, e parla cose diritte; che disdegna il guadagno di storsioni; che scuote le sue mani, per non prender presenti; che tura gli orecchi, per non udire omicidii; e chiude gli occhi, per non vedere il male;
16 such a man wil live on the heights, the craggy rocks wil be his refuge, he wil be fed, he wil not wantfor water.	16 esso abiterà in luoghi eccelsi; le fortezze delle rocce saranno il suo alto ricetto; il suo pane gli sarà dato, la sua acqua non fallirà.
17 Your eyes will gaze on the king in his beauty, they wil look on a country stretching far and wide.	17 Gli occhi tuoi mireranno il re nella sua bellezza, vedranno la terra lontana.
18 Your heart wil meditate on past terrors, 'Where is the man who did the counting? Where is the manwho did the weighing? Where is the man who counted off the towers?'	18 Il tuo cuore mediterà lo spavento, e dirai: Dove è il commessario della rassegna? dove è il pagatore? dove è colui che tiene i registri delle torri?
19 No more wil you see that insolent people, that people of unintel igible speech, of barbarous andmeaningless tongue.	19 Ma tu non vedrai il popolo fiero, popolo di linguaggio oscuro, che non s’intende; di lingua balbettante, che non si comprende.
20 Gaze at Zion, city of our feasts; your eyes wil see Jerusalem as a home that is secure, a tent not tobe moved, none of its tent-pegs ever to be pul ed out, none of its guy-ropes ever to be broken.	20 Riguarda Sion, città delle nostre feste solenni; gli occhi tuoi veggano Gerusalemme, stanza tranquilla, tabernacolo che non sarà giammai trasportato altrove, i cui piuoli giammai non saranno rimossi, nè rotta alcuna delle sue funi;
21 There it is that Yahweh shows us his power, like a place of rivers and very wide canals on which willrow no galley, over which wil pass no majestic ship.	21 anzi quivi sarà il Signore magnifico inverso noi; quello sarà un luogo di fiumi, di rivi larghi, al quale non potrà giunger nave da remo, nè grosso navilio passarvi.
22 (For Yahweh is our judge, Yahweh our lawgiver, Yahweh is our king and our Saviour.)	22 Perciocchè il Signore è il nostro Giudice, il Signore è il nostro Legislatore, il Signore è il nostro Re; egli ci salverà.
23 Your tackle has given way, it cannot support the mast, it cannot hoist the pennon. And so there ismuch booty to be shared out; the lame fal to plundering,	23 Le tue corde son rallentate; esse non potranno tener fermamente diritto l’albero della lor nave, nè spiegar la vela; allora sarà spartita la preda di grandi spoglie; gli zoppi stessi prederanno la preda.
24 and no one living there wil say, 'I am sickly'; the people living there wil find their guilt forgiven.	24 E gli abitanti non diranno più: Io sono infermo; il popolo che abiterà in quella sarà un popolo, al quale l’iniquità sarà perdonata
