Sirach 47

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA TINTORI
1 After him arose Nathan, to prophesy in the time of David.	1 In seguito sorse Natan, il profeta dei tempi di David.
2 As the fat is set apart from the communion sacrifice, so was David chosen out of the Israelites.	2 Come il grasso separato dalla carne, cosi David dai figli d'Israele.
3 He played with lions as though with kids, and with bears as though with lambs.	3 Egli scherzò coi leoni come cogli agnelli, e trattò gli orsi come agnelletti, nella sua gioventù.
4 While stil a boy, did he not slay the giant and take away the people's shame, by hurling a stone fromhis sling and cutting short the boasting of Goliath?	4 Non fu lui che uccise il gigante e tolse l'obbrobrio dalla nazione?
5 For he cal ed on the Lord Most High, who gave strength to his right arm to put a mighty warrior to deathand assert the strength of his own people.	5 Alzata la mano, col sasso della fionda abbattè l'orgoglio di Golia.
6 Hence they gave him credit for ten thousand, and praised him while they blessed the Lord, by offeringhim a crown of glory.	6 Infatti invocò il Signore onnipotente, che diede alla sua destra di levar dal mondo un uomo forte in battaglia e di rialzare la gloria della sua nazione.
7 For he destroyed the enemies on every front, he annihilated his foes, the Philistines, and crushed theirstrength for ever.	7 Così gli fece aver l'onore di diecimila, lo fece lodare nelle benedizioni del Signore, gli offerse la corona della gloria.
8 In al his activities he gave thanks to the Holy One Most High in words of glory; he put all his heart intohis songs out of love for his Creator.	8 Infatti da ogni parte schiacciò i nemici, estirpò i Filistei, nemici fino al presente, ne fiaccò la potenza per sempre.
9 He placed singers before the altar, melodiously to sing;	9 In tutte le sue opere diede gloria al Santo, all'Eecelso con parole di lode.
10 he gave the feasts their splendour, the festivals their solemn pomp, causing the Lord's holy name tobe praised and the sanctuary to resound from dawn.	10 Con tutto il suo cuore lodò il Signore ed amò Dio suo creatore, il quale l'aveva resopotente contro i nemici.
11 The Lord took away his sins, making his strength ever greater; he gave him a royal covenant, and aglorious throne in Israel.	11 E collocò dei cantori davanti all'altare, e diede dolci melodie ai loro canti.
12 A wise son succeeded him, who lived content, thanks to him.	12 Diede solennità alla celebrazione delle feste e decoro alle ricorrenze dell'anno, finché visse, perchè lodassero il santo nome del Signore e magnificassero fin dal l'alba la santità di Dio.
13 Solomon reigned in a time of peace, and God gave him peace al round so that he could raise a houseto his name and prepare an everlasting sanctuary.	13 Il Signore lo purificò dai suoi peccati e ne esaltò in eterno la potenza, e gli assicurò con patto il regno e il trono glorioso in Israele.
14 How wise you were despite your youth, like a river, brimming over with intelligence!	14 Dopo di lui sorse il figliolo sapiente che in grazia di lui abbattè ogni potere dei nemici.
15 Your mind ranged the earth, you fil ed it with mysterious sayings.	15 Salomone regnò in tempo di pace, e Dio gli rese soggetti tutti i nemici, affinchè egli edificasse un tempio al suo nome e preparasse un eterno santuario. Come fosti sapiente nella tua giovinezza!
16 Your name reached the distant islands, and you were loved for your peace.	16 Tu fosti riempito come un fiume dalla sapienza, la tua anima ricoperse la terra,
17 Your songs, your proverbs, your sayings and your answers were the wonder of the world.	17 con paragoni l'inondasti di enimmi; il tuo nome fu divulgato alle isole più remote, e fosti amato nella tua pace.
18 In the name of the Lord God, of him who is cal ed the God of Israel, you amassed gold like so muchtin, and made silver as common as lead.	18 Dei tuoi cantici, proverbi, paragoni, delle tue interpretazioni restò ammirata la terra.
19 You abandoned your body to women, you became the slave of your appetites.	19 E cosi del nome del Signore Id dio che si appella Dio d'Israele.
20 You stained your honour, you profaned your stock, so bringing retribution on your children andaffliction for your fol y:	20 Ammassasti l'oro come il rame e moltiplicasti l'argento come il piombo.
21 the empire split in two, from Ephraim arose a rebel kingdom.	21 Ma poi tu' piegasti i tuoi fianchi alle donne, asservisti (ad esse) il tuo corpo.
22 But the Lord never goes back on his mercy, never cancels any of his words, wil neither deny offspringto his elect nor stamp out the line of the man who loved him. And hence, he has granted a remnant to Jacob andto David a root sprung from him.	22 E macchiasti la tua gloria, profanasti la tua stirpe, da attirare lo sdegno sui tuoi figli, eccitando la tua stoltezza,
23 Solomon rested with his ancestors, leaving one of his stock as his successor, the stupidest member ofthe nation, brainless Rehoboam, who drove the people to rebel.	23 in modo da far dividere il regno e da fare uscire da Efraim un regno ribelle.
24 Next, Jeroboam son of Nebat, who made Israel sin, and set Ephraim on the way of evil; from then ontheir sins multiplied so excessively as to drive them out of their country;	24 Ma Dio non dimenticherà la sua misericordia, non guasterà, non distruggerà l'opera sua, non schianterà dalle radici i discendenti del suo eletto, non farà finire la stirpe di colui che amò il Signore.
25 for they tried out every kind of wickedness, until vengeance overtook them.	25 Concesse delle reliquie a Giacobbe e a David la sua stirpe.
	26 E Salomone morì coi suoi padri,
	27 e lasciò dietro di sè, della sua stirpe la stoltezza della nazione,
	28 uno senza prudenza, Roboamo. che col suo consiglio si alienò la nazione,
	29 e Geroboamo figlio di Nabat che fece peccare Israele, e aprì ad Efraim la via del peccato. E dilagarono i loro numerosissimi peccati,
	30 e li cacciarono molto lungi dalla loro terra.
	31 Essi andarono in cerca d'ogni scelleratezza, finché non cadde sopra di loro la vendetta che pose fine a tutti i loro peccati.
