Sirach 47

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA RICCIOTTI
1 After him arose Nathan, to prophesy in the time of David.	1 - Dipoi sorse Natan, [per] profeta [re] ai tempi di David.
2 As the fat is set apart from the communion sacrifice, so was David chosen out of the Israelites.	2 Come il grasso [è] separato dalla carne [della vittima], così David dai figliuoli d'Israele.
3 He played with lions as though with kids, and with bears as though with lambs.	3 Coi leoni scherzò come fossero capretti, e con gli orsi fece altrettanto quasi fossero agnelli. Nella sua gioventù
4 While stil a boy, did he not slay the giant and take away the people's shame, by hurling a stone fromhis sling and cutting short the boasting of Goliath?	4 non uccise egli il gigante, e tolse l'obbrobrio dalla nazione?
5 For he cal ed on the Lord Most High, who gave strength to his right arm to put a mighty warrior to deathand assert the strength of his own people.	5 Alzata la mano, con la pietra della fionda, abbattè l'orgoglio di Golia.
6 Hence they gave him credit for ten thousand, and praised him while they blessed the Lord, by offeringhim a crown of glory.	6 Perchè egli invocò il Signore onnipotente, e questi diede [forza] alla sua destra, da atterrare un forte guerriero e rialzar la potenza del suo popolo.
7 For he destroyed the enemies on every front, he annihilated his foes, the Philistines, and crushed theirstrength for ever.	7 Così per i diecimila [abbattuti] lo glorificò il [popolo], e lo celebrò per le benedizioni del Signore, mentre offeriva a lui una corona di gloria;
8 In al his activities he gave thanks to the Holy One Most High in words of glory; he put all his heart intohis songs out of love for his Creator.	8 perchè schiacciò i nemici d'ogni parte, e sterminò i Filistei avversari: sino al giorno d'oggi infranse le loro corna.
9 He placed singers before the altar, melodiously to sing;	9 In ogni impresa rese omaggio al Santo, e all'Altissimo con inni di gloria.
10 he gave the feasts their splendour, the festivals their solemn pomp, causing the Lord's holy name tobe praised and the sanctuary to resound from dawn.	10 Con tutto il cuore lodò il Signore, e amò Dio che l'aveva creato, e gli aveva dato forza contro i nemici,
11 The Lord took away his sins, making his strength ever greater; he gave him a royal covenant, and aglorious throne in Israel.	11 E mise cantori di faccia all'altare, e con la loro voce fece [risonare] dolci melodie.
12 A wise son succeeded him, who lived content, thanks to him.	12 E diede splendore alle solennità, e magnificenza alle [festive] ricorrenze, sino al termine della vita; [facendo] che i [cantori] lodassero il nome santo del Signore, e magnificassero sin dal mattino la santità di Dio.
13 Solomon reigned in a time of peace, and God gave him peace al round so that he could raise a houseto his name and prepare an everlasting sanctuary.	13 Il Signore lo purificò da' suoi peccati, ed esaltò in eterno la sua potenza, e gli dette il patto del regno, e il trono di gloria in Israele.
14 How wise you were despite your youth, like a river, brimming over with intelligence!	14 Dopo di lui sorse un figliuolo sapiente, e a cagion di lui [il Signore] abbattè ogni potenza di nemici.
15 Your mind ranged the earth, you fil ed it with mysterious sayings.	15 Salomone regnò in tempi di pace, avendogli Iddio assoggettati tutti i nemici; affinchè fabbricasse una casa al suo nome, e fondasse un santuario eterno. Quanto fosti tu savio nella tua giovinezza,
16 Your name reached the distant islands, and you were loved for your peace.	16 e riboccante di sapienza come un fiume l'animo tuo ricoprì la terra,
17 Your songs, your proverbs, your sayings and your answers were the wonder of the world.	17 e reconditi concetti accumulasti in sentenze. Fin nelle isole lontane si diffuse il tuo nome, e fosti amato nella tua pace [gloriosa].
18 In the name of the Lord God, of him who is cal ed the God of Israel, you amassed gold like so muchtin, and made silver as common as lead.	18 Per i cantici, i proverbi, gli enimmi e le interpretazioni ti ammirarono le terre.
19 You abandoned your body to women, you became the slave of your appetites.	19 E nel nome del Signore Iddio, ch'è chiamato Dio d'Israele,
20 You stained your honour, you profaned your stock, so bringing retribution on your children andaffliction for your fol y:	20 ammucchiasti quasi rame, l'oro, e quasi piombo accumulasti l'argento.
21 the empire split in two, from Ephraim arose a rebel kingdom.	21 Poi abbandonasti alle donne la tua persona e diventasti schiavo del tuo corpo.
22 But the Lord never goes back on his mercy, never cancels any of his words, wil neither deny offspringto his elect nor stamp out the line of the man who loved him. And hence, he has granted a remnant to Jacob andto David a root sprung from him.	22 Imprimesti una macchia alla tua gloria, e profanasti la tua stirpe, attirando lo sdegno sul tuoi figliuoli, e facendoli piangere sulla tua stoltezza,
23 Solomon rested with his ancestors, leaving one of his stock as his successor, the stupidest member ofthe nation, brainless Rehoboam, who drove the people to rebel.	23 per cui il regno fu diviso in due, e da Efraim sorse una dinastia ribelle.
24 Next, Jeroboam son of Nebat, who made Israel sin, and set Ephraim on the way of evil; from then ontheir sins multiplied so excessively as to drive them out of their country;	24 Ma Dio non abbandona la sua misericordia, e non guasta nè distrugge le opere sue: non annienta i discendenti del suo eletto, nè fa perir la progenie di chi ama il Signore.
25 for they tried out every kind of wickedness, until vengeance overtook them.	25 E' concesse a Giacobbe un avanzo, e a David [un rampollo] della sua stirpe.
	26 Ed ebbe fine Salomone [e riposò] co' padri suoi,
	27 e lasciò dopo di sè uno della sua stirpe, pieno di stoltezza
	28 e sprovvisto di prudenza, Roboamo, che con la sua decisione fa ribellare il popolo.
	29 E [lasciò anche] Geroboamo, figliuolo di Nabat, che fece peccare Israele, e ad Efraim apri la via del peccato. E traboccarono i loro molti peccati,
	30 tanto da scacciarli dalla lor terra.[E il popolo] andò dietro a ogni malvagità fino a che li raggiunse la vendetta, e da tutti i peccati li liberò.
