Sirach 47

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLIA
1 After him arose Nathan, to prophesy in the time of David.	1 Después de él surgió Natán para profetizar en los días de David.
2 As the fat is set apart from the communion sacrifice, so was David chosen out of the Israelites.	2 Como grasa puesta aparte en el sacrificio de comunión, así David de entre los hijos de Israel.
3 He played with lions as though with kids, and with bears as though with lambs.	3 Con leones jugó cual con cabritos, con osos como con corderos.
4 While stil a boy, did he not slay the giant and take away the people's shame, by hurling a stone fromhis sling and cutting short the boasting of Goliath?	4 ¿No mató de joven al gigante, y quitó el oprobio del pueblo, blandiendo en la mano la piedra de la honda y abatiendo la arrogancia de Goliat?
5 For he cal ed on the Lord Most High, who gave strength to his right arm to put a mighty warrior to deathand assert the strength of his own people.	5 Pues invocó al Señor Altísimo, que a su diestra dio vigor, para aniquilar a un potente guerrero, y realzar el cuerno de su pueblo.
6 Hence they gave him credit for ten thousand, and praised him while they blessed the Lord, by offeringhim a crown of glory.	6 Por eso le dieron gloria por diez mil, y le alabaron con las bendiciones del Señor, ofreciéndole la diadema de gloria.
7 For he destroyed the enemies on every front, he annihilated his foes, the Philistines, and crushed theirstrength for ever.	7 Pues él aplastó a los enemigos del contorno, aniquiló a los filisteos, sus adversarios, para siempre quebrantó su cuerno.
8 In al his activities he gave thanks to the Holy One Most High in words of glory; he put all his heart intohis songs out of love for his Creator.	8 En todas sus obras elevó acción de gracias al Santo Altísimo en oráculo de gloria. Con todo su corazón entonó himnos, mostrando su amor a su Hacedor.
9 He placed singers before the altar, melodiously to sing;	9 Ante el altar instituyó salmistas y con sus voces dio dulzura a los cantos.
10 he gave the feasts their splendour, the festivals their solemn pomp, causing the Lord's holy name tobe praised and the sanctuary to resound from dawn.	10 Dio a las fiestas esplendor, vistosidad acabada a las solemnidades, cuando ellos alaban el santo nombre del Señor, cuando resuena desde la aurora el santuario.
11 The Lord took away his sins, making his strength ever greater; he gave him a royal covenant, and aglorious throne in Israel.	11 El Señor le perdonó sus pecados y exaltó su cuerno para siempre: le otorgó la alianza real, un trono de gloria en Israel.
12 A wise son succeeded him, who lived content, thanks to him.	12 Después de él surgió un hijo sabio, que gracias a él vivió en holgura.
13 Solomon reigned in a time of peace, and God gave him peace al round so that he could raise a houseto his name and prepare an everlasting sanctuary.	13 Reinó Salomón en días de paz, Dios le concedió reposo por doquier, para que levantara una Casa a su nombre y preparara un santuario eterno.
14 How wise you were despite your youth, like a river, brimming over with intelligence!	14 ¡Qué sabio eras en tu juventud, lleno de inteligencia como un río!
15 Your mind ranged the earth, you fil ed it with mysterious sayings.	15 Cubrió tu alma la tierra, la llenaste de proverbios enigmáticos.
16 Your name reached the distant islands, and you were loved for your peace.	16 Tu nombre llegó hasta las islas lejanas, y fuiste amado en medio de tu paz.
17 Your songs, your proverbs, your sayings and your answers were the wonder of the world.	17 Por tus cantos, tus sentencias, tus proverbios y tus interpretaciones te admiraron los países.
18 In the name of the Lord God, of him who is cal ed the God of Israel, you amassed gold like so muchtin, and made silver as common as lead.	18 En nombre del Señor Dios, el llamado Dios de Israel, amontonaste oro como estaño, como plomo multiplicaste plata.
19 You abandoned your body to women, you became the slave of your appetites.	19 Mas reclinaste tu costado en mujeres, y te dejaste dominar en tu cuerpo.
20 You stained your honour, you profaned your stock, so bringing retribution on your children andaffliction for your fol y:	20 Pusiste así tacha a tu gloria, y profanaste tu linaje, acarreando la ira sobre tus hijos y llenándoles de aflicción por tu locura,
21 the empire split in two, from Ephraim arose a rebel kingdom.	21 hasta quedar partida en dos la dinastía y surgir de Efraím un reino apóstata.
22 But the Lord never goes back on his mercy, never cancels any of his words, wil neither deny offspringto his elect nor stamp out the line of the man who loved him. And hence, he has granted a remnant to Jacob andto David a root sprung from him.	22 Pero el Señor no renuncia jamás a su misericordia, no deja que se pierdan sus palabras ni que se borre la descendencia de su elegido, el linaje de quien le amó no extirpa. Por eso dio a Jacob un resto, y un brote a David salido de él.
23 Solomon rested with his ancestors, leaving one of his stock as his successor, the stupidest member ofthe nation, brainless Rehoboam, who drove the people to rebel.	23 Descansó Salomón con sus padres, y después de él dejó a uno de su linaje, lo más loco del pueblo, falto de inteligencia, Roboam, que apartó de su cordura al pueblo.
24 Next, Jeroboam son of Nebat, who made Israel sin, and set Ephraim on the way of evil; from then ontheir sins multiplied so excessively as to drive them out of their country;	24 Y Jeroboam, hijo de Nabat, fue el que hizo pecar a Israel, y señaló a Efraím el camino del pecado. Desde entonces se multiplicaron sus pecados tanto que expulsaron al pueblo de su tierra.
25 for they tried out every kind of wickedness, until vengeance overtook them.	25 Toda clase de maldades frecuentaron, hasta que vino sobre ellos el castigo.
