Sirach 47

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA CEI 2008
1 After him arose Nathan, to prophesy in the time of David.	1 Dopo di lui sorse Natan, per profetizzare nei giorni di Davide.
2 As the fat is set apart from the communion sacrifice, so was David chosen out of the Israelites.	2 Come dal sacrificio di comunione si preleva il grasso, così Davide fu scelto tra i figli d’Israele.
3 He played with lions as though with kids, and with bears as though with lambs.	3 Egli scherzò con leoni come con capretti, con gli orsi come con agnelli.
4 While stil a boy, did he not slay the giant and take away the people's shame, by hurling a stone fromhis sling and cutting short the boasting of Goliath?	4 Nella sua giovinezza non ha forse ucciso il gigante e cancellato l’ignominia dal popolo, alzando la mano con la pietra nella fionda e abbattendo la tracotanza di Golia?
5 For he cal ed on the Lord Most High, who gave strength to his right arm to put a mighty warrior to deathand assert the strength of his own people.	5 Egli aveva invocato il Signore, l’Altissimo, che concesse alla sua destra la forza di eliminare un potente guerriero e innalzare la potenza del suo popolo.
6 Hence they gave him credit for ten thousand, and praised him while they blessed the Lord, by offeringhim a crown of glory.	6 Così lo esaltarono per i suoi diecimila, lo lodarono nelle benedizioni del Signore offrendogli un diadema di gloria.
7 For he destroyed the enemies on every front, he annihilated his foes, the Philistines, and crushed theirstrength for ever.	7 Egli infatti sterminò i nemici all’intorno e annientò i Filistei, suoi avversari; distrusse la loro potenza fino ad oggi.
8 In al his activities he gave thanks to the Holy One Most High in words of glory; he put all his heart intohis songs out of love for his Creator.	8 In ogni sua opera celebrò il Santo, l’Altissimo, con parole di lode; cantò inni a lui con tutto il suo cuore e amò colui che lo aveva creato.
9 He placed singers before the altar, melodiously to sing;	9 Introdusse musici davanti all’altare e con i loro suoni rese dolci le melodie. Ogni giorno essi eseguono le loro musiche.
10 he gave the feasts their splendour, the festivals their solemn pomp, causing the Lord's holy name tobe praised and the sanctuary to resound from dawn.	10 Conferì splendore alle feste, abbellì i giorni festivi fino alla perfezione, facendo lodare il nome santo del Signore ed echeggiare fin dal mattino il santuario.
11 The Lord took away his sins, making his strength ever greater; he gave him a royal covenant, and aglorious throne in Israel.	11 Il Signore perdonò i suoi peccati, innalzò la sua potenza per sempre, gli concesse un’alleanza regale e un trono di gloria in Israele.
12 A wise son succeeded him, who lived content, thanks to him.	12 Dopo di lui sorse un figlio saggio, che, grazie a lui, abitò in un vasto territorio.
13 Solomon reigned in a time of peace, and God gave him peace al round so that he could raise a houseto his name and prepare an everlasting sanctuary.	13 Salomone regnò nei giorni di pace, per lui Dio concesse tranquillità all’intorno, perché costruisse una casa per il suo nome e preparasse un santuario per sempre.
14 How wise you were despite your youth, like a river, brimming over with intelligence!	14 Come fosti saggio nella tua giovinezza e fosti colmo d’intelligenza come un fiume!
15 Your mind ranged the earth, you fil ed it with mysterious sayings.	15 La tua fama ricoprì la terra, che tu riempisti di sentenze difficili.
16 Your name reached the distant islands, and you were loved for your peace.	16 Il tuo nome giunse lontano, fino alle isole, e fosti amato nella tua pace.
17 Your songs, your proverbs, your sayings and your answers were the wonder of the world.	17 Per i canti, i proverbi, le sentenze e per i responsi ti ammirarono i popoli.
18 In the name of the Lord God, of him who is cal ed the God of Israel, you amassed gold like so muchtin, and made silver as common as lead.	18 Nel nome del Signore Dio, che è chiamato Dio d’Israele, hai accumulato l’oro come stagno, hai ammassato l’argento come piombo.
19 You abandoned your body to women, you became the slave of your appetites.	19 Ma hai steso i tuoi fianchi accanto alle donne e ne fosti dominato nel tuo corpo.
20 You stained your honour, you profaned your stock, so bringing retribution on your children andaffliction for your fol y:	20 Hai macchiato la tua gloria e hai profanato la tua discendenza, così da attirare l’ira divina sui tuoi figli ed essere colpito per la tua stoltezza.
21 the empire split in two, from Ephraim arose a rebel kingdom.	21 Perciò fu diviso in due il tuo dominio e da Èfraim ebbe inizio un regno ribelle.
22 But the Lord never goes back on his mercy, never cancels any of his words, wil neither deny offspringto his elect nor stamp out the line of the man who loved him. And hence, he has granted a remnant to Jacob andto David a root sprung from him.	22 Ma il Signore non ha rinnegato la sua misericordia, non ha lasciato cadere nessuna delle sue parole. Non ha fatto perire la posterità del suo eletto e non ha distrutto la stirpe di colui che lo aveva amato. Egli concesse un resto a Giacobbe e a Davide un germoglio nato da lui.
23 Solomon rested with his ancestors, leaving one of his stock as his successor, the stupidest member ofthe nation, brainless Rehoboam, who drove the people to rebel.	23 Salomone andò a riposare con i suoi padri e dopo di sé lasciò un discendente, stoltezza del popolo e privo di senno, Roboamo, che si alienò il popolo con le sue decisioni, e Geroboamo, figlio di Nabat, che indusse Israele a peccare e aprì a Èfraim la via del peccato.
24 Next, Jeroboam son of Nebat, who made Israel sin, and set Ephraim on the way of evil; from then ontheir sins multiplied so excessively as to drive them out of their country;	24 Le loro colpe si moltiplicarono tanto da farli esiliare dal proprio paese.
25 for they tried out every kind of wickedness, until vengeance overtook them.	25 Essi commisero ogni genere di malvagità, finché non giunse su di loro la vendetta.
