Sirach 47

NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 After him arose Nathan, to prophesy in the time of David.	1 Después de él surgió Natán, para profetizar en tiempos de David.
2 As the fat is set apart from the communion sacrifice, so was David chosen out of the Israelites.	2 Como se aparta la grasa del sacrificio de comunión, así fue elegido David entre los israelitas.
3 He played with lions as though with kids, and with bears as though with lambs.	3 El jugó con leones como si fueran cabritos y con osos como si fueran corderos.
4 While stil a boy, did he not slay the giant and take away the people's shame, by hurling a stone fromhis sling and cutting short the boasting of Goliath?	4 ¿Acaso, siendo joven, no mató a un gigante y extirpo el oprobio del pueblo, cuando lanzó una piedra con la honda y abatió la arrogancia de Goliat?
5 For he cal ed on the Lord Most High, who gave strength to his right arm to put a mighty warrior to deathand assert the strength of his own people.	5 Porque él invocó al Señor, el Altísimo, que fortaleció su brazo para exterminar a un guerrero poderoso y mantener erguida la frente de su pueblo.
6 Hence they gave him credit for ten thousand, and praised him while they blessed the Lord, by offeringhim a crown of glory.	6 Por eso, lo glorificaron por los diez mil, y lo alabaron por las bendiciones del Señor, ofreciéndole una diadema de gloria.
7 For he destroyed the enemies on every front, he annihilated his foes, the Philistines, and crushed theirstrength for ever.	7 Porque él destruyó a los enemigos de alrededor y aniquiló a sus adversarios, los filisteos, quebrando su poderío hasta el día de hoy.
8 In al his activities he gave thanks to the Holy One Most High in words of glory; he put all his heart intohis songs out of love for his Creator.	8 En todas sus obras rindió homenaje al Santo Altísimo, con palabras de gloria; cantó himnos de todo corazón, mostrando su amor por su Creador.
9 He placed singers before the altar, melodiously to sing;	9 Estableció cantores delante del altar, para que entonaran cantos melodiosos;
10 he gave the feasts their splendour, the festivals their solemn pomp, causing the Lord's holy name tobe praised and the sanctuary to resound from dawn.	10 dio esplendor a las fiestas, y ordenó perfectamente las solemnidades, haciendo que se alabara el santo nombre del Señor y que resonara el Santuario desde el alba.
11 The Lord took away his sins, making his strength ever greater; he gave him a royal covenant, and aglorious throne in Israel.	11 El Señor borró sus pecados y exaltó su poderío para siempre, le otorgó una alianza real y un trono de gloria en Israel.
12 A wise son succeeded him, who lived content, thanks to him.	12 Después de él surgió un hijo lleno de saber que, gracias a David, vivió desahogadamente.
13 Solomon reigned in a time of peace, and God gave him peace al round so that he could raise a houseto his name and prepare an everlasting sanctuary.	13 Salomón reinó en tiempos de paz y Dios le concedió tranquilidad en sus fronteras, a fin de que edificara una Casa a su Nombre y erigiera un Santuario eterno.
14 How wise you were despite your youth, like a river, brimming over with intelligence!	14 ¡Qué sabio eras en tu juventud, desbordabas de inteligencia como un río!
15 Your mind ranged the earth, you fil ed it with mysterious sayings.	15 Tu reputación cubrió la tierra, la llenaste de sentencias enigmáticas;
16 Your name reached the distant islands, and you were loved for your peace.	16 tu renombre llegó hasta las costas lejanas y fuiste amado por haber afianzado la paz.
17 Your songs, your proverbs, your sayings and your answers were the wonder of the world.	17 Por tus cantos, tus proverbios y tus sentencias, y por tus interpretaciones, fuiste la admiración del mundo.
18 In the name of the Lord God, of him who is cal ed the God of Israel, you amassed gold like so muchtin, and made silver as common as lead.	18 En nombre del Señor Dios, de aquel que es llamado Dios de Israel, amontonaste el oro como estaño, y como plomo acumulaste la plata.
19 You abandoned your body to women, you became the slave of your appetites.	19 Pero tuviste debilidad por las mujeres y dejaste que dominaran tu cuerpo.
20 You stained your honour, you profaned your stock, so bringing retribution on your children andaffliction for your fol y:	20 Pusiste una mancha sobre tu gloria y profanaste tu estirpe, atrayendo la ira sobre tus hijos, y haciéndoles deplorar tu locura:
21 the empire split in two, from Ephraim arose a rebel kingdom.	21 así la realeza se dividió en dos, y de Efraím surgió un reino rebelde.
22 But the Lord never goes back on his mercy, never cancels any of his words, wil neither deny offspringto his elect nor stamp out the line of the man who loved him. And hence, he has granted a remnant to Jacob andto David a root sprung from him.	22 Pero el Señor no renuncia jamás a su misericordia ni deja que se pierda ninguna de sus palabras: él no hará desaparecer la posteridad de su elegido, ni exterminará la estirpe de aquel que lo amó. Por eso, le dio un resto a Jacob, y a David una raíz nacida de él.
23 Solomon rested with his ancestors, leaving one of his stock as his successor, the stupidest member ofthe nation, brainless Rehoboam, who drove the people to rebel.	23 Salomón fue a descansar con sus padres, dejando después de él a uno de su estirpe, al más insensato del pueblo, un hombre sin inteligencia: a Roboam, que arrastró al pueblo a la rebelión.
24 Next, Jeroboam son of Nebat, who made Israel sin, and set Ephraim on the way of evil; from then ontheir sins multiplied so excessively as to drive them out of their country;	24 Jeroboam, hijo de Nebat, hizo pecar a Israel y llevó a Efraím por el camino del mal. El pueblo cometió tantos pecados que fue expulsado de su país:
25 for they tried out every kind of wickedness, until vengeance overtook them.	25 se entregaron a toda clase de maldades hasta que el castigo cayó sobre ellos.
