Sirach 43

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA TINTORI
1 Pride of the heights, a clear vault of the sky -- such is the beauty of the heavens, a glorious sight.	1 L'alto firmamento è sua be lezza. L'aspetto del cielo ne fa vedere la gloria,
2 The sun, as he emerges, proclaims at his rising, 'How wonderful a thing, the work of the Most High!'	2 Il sole al suo apparire si proclama, coll'uscir fuori, maraviglioso strumento, opera dell'Altissimo.
3 At his zenith, he parches the ground, who can withstand his blaze?	3 Al mezzogiorno arroventa la terra: chi potrà reggere dinanzi ai suoi ardori? Come chi mantiene la fornace pei lavori a fuoco,
4 We have to blow the furnace to produce any heat, the sun burns the mountains three times as much;breathing out blasts of fire, flashing his rays, he dazzles the eyes.	4 tre volte di più, il sole brucia le montagne, vibrando raggi di fuoco, e col fulgore dei suoi raggi abbacina gli occhi.
5 Great is the Lord who created him and whose word speeds him on his course.	5 Grande è il Signore che l'ha fatto: al suo comando egli accelera la sua corsa.
6 And then the moon, ever punctual to mark the times, an everlasting sign:	6 E la luna, con tutte (le sue fasi) a suo tempo, indica i tempi e segna l'età.
7 It is the moon that signals the feasts, a luminary that wanes after being ful .	7 Dalla luna (viene) il segno della festa, dal luminare che, arrivato alla pienezza, decresce
8 The month derives its name from hers, she waxes wonderful y in her phases, banner of the hosts onhigh, shining in the vault of heaven.	8 Il mese ha preso il nome da lei, che cresce mirabilmente fino ad esser piena.
9 The glory of the stars makes the beauty of the sky, a brilliant adornment of the Lord on High.	9 Un esercito è nel più alto dei cieli, risplende gloriosamente nel firmamento celeste.
10 At the words of the Holy One they stand as he decrees, and never grow slack at their watch.	10 Lo splendore delle stelle è la bellezza del cielo, dalle altezze più sublimi il Signore illumina il mondo.
11 See the rainbow and praise its Maker, so superbly beautiful in its splendour.	11 Secondo la parola del Santo stanno al posto assegnato, e non si stancano nelle loro veglie.
12 Across the sky it forms a glorious arc drawn by the hands of the Most High.	12 Mira l'arcobaleno e benedici chi l'ha fatto: è molto bello nel suo splendore.
13 By his command he sends the snow, he speeds the lightning by his command.	13 Fa il giro del cielo col suo cerchio di gloria: lo han disteso le mani dell'Altissimo.
14 In the same way, his treasuries open and the clouds fly out like birds.	14 Col suo comando fa precipitar la neve, si affretta a lanciar i fulmini del suo giudizio.
15 His great power solidifies the clouds, then pulverises them into hail.	15 A tal fine si aprono i ripostigli, e le nuvole volan via come uccelli.
16 at the sight of him, the mountains quake. At his wil the south wind blows,or the storm from the northand the whirlwind.	16 Colla sua gran potenza addensa le nubi, e se ne staccano le pietre della grandine.
17 At the roar of his thunder, the earth writhes in labour,	17 Davanti a lui tremeranno i monti, per suo volere soffierà il vento australe.
18 He sprinkles snow like birds alighting, it comes down like locusts settling. The eye marvels at thebeauty of its whiteness, and the mind is amazed at its falling.	18 Il rumore del suo tuono percoterà la terra, così il turbine aquilonare e il confluir vorticoso dei venti.
19 Over the earth, like salt, he also pours hoarfrost, which, when it freezes, bristles like thorns.	19 Fa spandere la neve come uccelli che calano a riposarsi, essa discende come locusta che tutto ricopre.
20 The cold wind blows from the north, and ice forms on the water; it forms on every piece of standingwater, covering it like a breastplate.	20 L'occhio ne ammirerà il candore e il cuore si spaventerà per il fioccar di lei.
21 The wind swal ows up the mountains and scorches the desert, like a fire it consumes the vegetation.	21 Egli spanderà come sale sulla terra la brina, la quale, ghiacciata, diventerà come punte di triboli.
22 But cloud brings swift healing, and dew brings joy after the heat.	22 Al soffiar del freddo vento aquilonare l'acqua si congela in cristallo, che si posa sopra ogni ammasso d'acque e si riveste di acqua come di corazza.
23 By his own resourcefulness he has tamed the abyss, and planted it with islands.	23 Egli divora i monti e brucia i deserti, secca ogni verdura come il fuoco.
24 Those who sail the sea tell of its dangers, their accounts fill our ears with amazement:	24 Il rimedio a tutto ciò è il subito apparir d'una nuvola, e la rugiada che, venendo dal calore contrario, lo fa diminuire.
25 for there too exist strange and wonderful works, animals of every kind and huge sea creatures.	25 Ad una sua parola tace il vento, al suo pensiero si placa l'abisso, nel quale il Signore pianta le isole.
26 Thanks to God, his messenger reaches port, everything works out according to his word.	26 Quelli che corrono il mare ne raccontino i pericoli, e, sentendoli coi nostri orecchi, ne resteremo stupefatti.
27 We could say much more and stil fal short; to put it concisely, 'He is al .'	27 Ivi splendide opere e maraviglie, varie specie di bestie, animali d'ogni sorta e creature mostruose.
28 Where shall we find sufficient power to glorify him, since he is the Great One, above al his works,	28 Per lui è assicurato lo scopo del viaggio, alla sua parola tutto si mette in ordine.
29 the awe-inspiring Lord, stupendously great, and wonderful in his power?	29 Diremo molte cose e le parole ci mancheranno, ma la conclusione del discorso è: Egli è in tutto.
30 Exalt the Lord in your praises as high as you may -- stil he surpasses you. Exert al your strengthwhen you exalt him, do not grow tired -- you wil never come to the end.	30 Per glorificarlo che potremo fare? Egli infatti, l'onnipotente, è superiore a tutte le sue opere.
31 Who has ever seen him to describe him? Who can glorify him as he deserves?	31 Il Signore è terribile ed oltremodo grande, e la sua potenza è maravigliosa.
32 Many mysteries remain even greater than these, for we have seen only a few of his works,	32 Glorificate pure il Signore quanto potete, chè Egli sarà sempre al di sopra, ed è mirabile la sua magnificenza.
33 the Lord himself having created al things and given wisdom to those who are devout.	33 Benedicendo il Signore, esaltatelo quanto potete, perchè Egli è maggiore d'ogni lode.
	34 Per esaltarlo riempitevi di forza e non vi stancate, chè non arriverete mai.
	35 Chi lo potrà vedere per descriverlo? Chi lo potrà lodare com'è ab eterno?
	36 Molte (sue opere) nascoste son maggiori di queste: abbiamo visto ben poco delle sue opere.
	37 Ma tutto ha fatto il Signore, ed Egli dà la sapienza a chi vive piamente.
