Sirach 43

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA RICCIOTTI
1 Pride of the heights, a clear vault of the sky -- such is the beauty of the heavens, a glorious sight.	1 - Bellezza dell'empireo è il [limpido] firmamento, e l'aspetto del cielo è visione di gloria.
2 The sun, as he emerges, proclaims at his rising, 'How wonderful a thing, the work of the Most High!'	2 Il sole col suo apparire annunzia alla levata [il giorno]; ammirabile strumento, opera dell'Altissimo!
3 At his zenith, he parches the ground, who can withstand his blaze?	3 Nel mezzogiorno brucia la terra, e dinanzi al suo ardore chi può reggere? [C'è] chi attizza la fornace per i lavori a fuoco:
4 We have to blow the furnace to produce any heat, the sun burns the mountains three times as much;breathing out blasts of fire, flashing his rays, he dazzles the eyes.	4 tre volte tanto il sole infoca i monti! Soffia vampe di fuoco, e col fulgor de' suoi raggi accieca gli occhi.
5 Great is the Lord who created him and whose word speeds him on his course.	5 Grande è il Signore che l'ha creato, e al comando di lui esso accelera il corso.
6 And then the moon, ever punctual to mark the times, an everlasting sign:	6 E anche la luna [appare] ognora a suo tempo, indice delle stagioni e segnale perpetuo.
7 It is the moon that signals the feasts, a luminary that wanes after being ful .	7 Dalla luna [si ha] l'indicazione de' giorni festivi: è un luminare che decresce [arrivato] alla pienezza.
8 The month derives its name from hers, she waxes wonderful y in her phases, banner of the hosts onhigh, shining in the vault of heaven.	8 Il mese è [chiamato] dal suo nome: essa cresce meravigliosamente nel suo mutarsi.
9 The glory of the stars makes the beauty of the sky, a brilliant adornment of the Lord on High.	9 Essa è la fiaccola del l'accampamento nelle [regioni] superne; fulgida brilla nel firmamento del cielo.
10 At the words of the Holy One they stand as he decrees, and never grow slack at their watch.	10 La bellezza del cielo è lo splendor delle stelle: lassù dall'alto il Signore illumina il mondo.
11 See the rainbow and praise its Maker, so superbly beautiful in its splendour.	11 Al cenni del Santo stanno esse pronte al comando, e non si spossano nelle loro vigilie.
12 Across the sky it forms a glorious arc drawn by the hands of the Most High.	12 Mira l'arco [baleno] e benedici Colui che l'ha fatto: è molto bello nel suo splendore.
13 By his command he sends the snow, he speeds the lightning by his command.	13 Esso cinge il cielo col suo cerchio fulgente; le mani dell'Altissimo l'hanno disteso.
14 In the same way, his treasuries open and the clouds fly out like birds.	14 Col suo comando [Iddio] fa precipitar la neve, e scaglia veloci le folgori del suo giudizio.
15 His great power solidifies the clouds, then pulverises them into hail.	15 Perciò si aprono i serbatoi, e volan fuori le nuvole come uccelli.
16 at the sight of him, the mountains quake. At his wil the south wind blows,or the storm from the northand the whirlwind.	16 Con la sua maestà condensa le nuvole, e son spezzate le pietre della grandine.
17 At the roar of his thunder, the earth writhes in labour,	17 Al suo apparire si scuoton le montagne, e al voler di lui soffia lo scirocco.
18 He sprinkles snow like birds alighting, it comes down like locusts settling. The eye marvels at thebeauty of its whiteness, and the mind is amazed at its falling.	18 Il fragor del suo tuono percuote la terra, [e si scatena] l'uragano aquilonare e il turbinio del vento.
19 Over the earth, like salt, he also pours hoarfrost, which, when it freezes, bristles like thorns.	19 Come uccelli che volan giù a posarsi, egli sparge la neve, e come locuste che si buttano a terra essa discende.
20 The cold wind blows from the north, and ice forms on the water; it forms on every piece of standingwater, covering it like a breastplate.	20 L'occhio ammira la bellezza del suo candore, e del suo fioccar si turba il cuore.
21 The wind swal ows up the mountains and scorches the desert, like a fire it consumes the vegetation.	21 La brina egli spande come sale sulla terra, e ghiacciata che sia, divien come punte di triboli.
22 But cloud brings swift healing, and dew brings joy after the heat.	22 Soffia il freddo vento aquilonare, e si gela l'acqua in ghiaccio: sopra ogni massa d'acque esso si stende, e come d'una corazza si riveste l'acqua.
23 By his own resourcefulness he has tamed the abyss, and planted it with islands.	23 E inaridisce [Iddio] i monti e abbrucia il deserto, e dissecca la verzura come fuoco.
24 Those who sail the sea tell of its dangers, their accounts fill our ears with amazement:	24 Rimedio a tutto [ciò] è il pronto apparir d'una nuvola, e la rugiada sopravveniente ricrea dall'ardore:
25 for there too exist strange and wonderful works, animals of every kind and huge sea creatures.	25 a una parola di lui tace il vento. Conforme al suo proposito domò l'oceano profondo, e ci piantò il Signore le isole.
26 Thanks to God, his messenger reaches port, everything works out according to his word.	26 Quei che navigano il mare, ne raccontano i pericoli: e all'udirli co' nostri orecchi restiamo stupiti:
27 We could say much more and stil fal short; to put it concisely, 'He is al .'	27 ivi son creature strane e meravigliose, varietà di bestie d'ogni sorta e la razza de' mostri.
28 Where shall we find sufficient power to glorify him, since he is the Great One, above al his works,	28 Per lui fu assicurato [a ogni essere] la mèta del suo viaggio, e per la sua parola fu costituita ogni cosa.
29 the awe-inspiring Lord, stupendously great, and wonderful in his power?	29 Potremmo dir molto [ancora] e le parole non ci basterebbero; la conclusione de' discorsi [è questa]: « Egli è in tutto ».
30 Exalt the Lord in your praises as high as you may -- stil he surpasses you. Exert al your strengthwhen you exalt him, do not grow tired -- you wil never come to the end.	30 Per gloriarlo, che valgon mai i nostri sforzi? Poiché egli è l'Onnipotente, al di sopra di tutte le sue opere.
31 Who has ever seen him to describe him? Who can glorify him as he deserves?	31 Terribile è il Signore e sovranamente grande, e portentosa la sua potenza.
32 Many mysteries remain even greater than these, for we have seen only a few of his works,	32 Celebrando il Signore, [esaltatelo] quanto mai potete; perchè egli sopravanzerà ancora, e meravigliosa è la sua magnificenza.
33 the Lord himself having created al things and given wisdom to those who are devout.	33 Benedicendo il Signore, esaltatelo quanto potete: perchè è maggiore d'ogni lode.
	34 Esaltatelo, moltiplicate le [vostre] forze; non vi stancate, che non [lo] raggiungerete mai.
	35 Chi lo ha veduto e può darne contezza? e chi lo celebrerà mai a seconda di ciò ch'egli è ab eterno?
	36 Molte cose nascoste c'è maggiori di queste: poiché poco è quel che noi vediamo delle opere sue,
	37 E tutto ha fatto il Signore, e a chi piamente opera dà la sapienza.
