NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA MARTINI
1 Pride of the heights, a clear vault of the sky -- such is the beauty of the heavens, a glorious sight.	1 Bellezza dell'altissimo cielo egli è il firmamento; nell'ornato del cielo si vede la gloria.
2 The sun, as he emerges, proclaims at his rising, 'How wonderful a thing, the work of the Most High!'	2 Il sole uscendo fuora, col suo aspetta annuncia (il giorno), strumento ammirabile, opera dell'Altissimo.
3 At his zenith, he parches the ground, who can withstand his blaze?	3 Nel mezzogiorno egli abbrugia la terra, e chi è, che possa reggere in faccia a' suoi ardori? Come chi mantiene una fornace pe' lavori, che si fanno a fuoco ardente:
4 We have to blow the furnace to produce any heat, the sun burns the mountains three times as much;breathing out blasts of fire, flashing his rays, he dazzles the eyes.	4 Il sole tre volte tanto brugia i monti, vibrando raggi di fuoco, e col fulgore de' suoi raggi abbacina gli occhi.
5 Great is the Lord who created him and whose word speeds him on his course.	5 Grande è il Signore, che la creò, per comando del quale egli accelera la sua corsa.
6 And then the moon, ever punctual to mark the times, an everlasting sign:	6 La luna con tutte le fasi, e col suo periodo indica i tempi, e segua gli anni.
7 It is the moon that signals the feasts, a luminary that wanes after being ful .	7 La lana da il segno de' giorni festivi; luminare, il quale arrivato alla sua pienezza, decresce.
8 The month derives its name from hers, she waxes wonderful y in her phases, banner of the hosts onhigh, shining in the vault of heaven.	8 Il mese ha preso il nome da lei; ella cresce mirabilmente fino alla pienezza.
9 The glory of the stars makes the beauty of the sky, a brilliant adornment of the Lord on High.	9 Un esercito è nell'eccelso, nel firmamento celeste, il qual esercito gloriosamente risplende.
10 At the words of the Holy One they stand as he decrees, and never grow slack at their watch.	10 Lo splender delle stelle è la gloria del cielo: il Signore è quegli, che illumina il mondo lassù dall'alto.
11 See the rainbow and praise its Maker, so superbly beautiful in its splendour.	11 Alla parola del Santo elle son pronte a' suoi ordini, né mai si stancano nello loro stazioni.
12 Across the sky it forms a glorious arc drawn by the hands of the Most High.	12 Mira l'arcobaleno, e benedici colui, che lo ha fatto: egli è molto bello nel suo splendore.
13 By his command he sends the snow, he speeds the lightning by his command.	13 Egli il cielo cinge con cerchio glorioso, le mani dell'Altissimo sono quelle, che lo han disteso.
14 In the same way, his treasuries open and the clouds fly out like birds.	14 Dio col suo comando fa subito venire la neve, e con celerità spedisce le folgora secondo il suo giudizio.
15 His great power solidifies the clouds, then pulverises them into hail.	15 Per questo si aprono i tesori, e le nubi volano come gli uccelli.
16 at the sight of him, the mountains quake. At his wil the south wind blows,or the storm from the northand the whirlwind.	16 Colla sua potenza grande egli addensa le nuvole, e ne stacca pietre di grandine.
17 At the roar of his thunder, the earth writhes in labour,	17 A uno sguardo di lui si scuotono i monti, e per volere di lui soffia lo scirocco.
18 He sprinkles snow like birds alighting, it comes down like locusts settling. The eye marvels at thebeauty of its whiteness, and the mind is amazed at its falling.	18 Il rumor del suo tuono sbatte la terra: la bufera aquilonare, e i turbini di vento,
19 Over the earth, like salt, he also pours hoarfrost, which, when it freezes, bristles like thorns.	19 Spandono la neve, la quale vien già a guisa di uccelli, che calano a riposarsi, o come locuste, che si gettano sulla terra, e la ricuoprono.
20 The cold wind blows from the north, and ice forms on the water; it forms on every piece of standingwater, covering it like a breastplate.	20 L'occhio ammira il bel candore di lei, e la sua quantità cagiona spavento ne' cuori.
21 The wind swal ows up the mountains and scorches the desert, like a fire it consumes the vegetation.	21 Egli spande sopra la terra la brina come sale, la quale quand'è agghiadata si fa simile alle punte de' triboli.
22 But cloud brings swift healing, and dew brings joy after the heat.	22 Al soffio del freddo aquilone l'acqua si congela in cristallo, il quale sopra ogni massa di acque si posa, e mette indosso alle acque quasi una corazza.
23 By his own resourcefulness he has tamed the abyss, and planted it with islands.	23 Egli divora i monti, e brugia i deserti, e secca ogni verdura al pari del fuoco.
24 Those who sail the sea tell of its dangers, their accounts fill our ears with amazement:	24 Il rimedio a tutto questo si è una nuvola, che tosto comparisca; e una molto calda rugiada, che gli venga contro lo fa dar giù.
25 for there too exist strange and wonderful works, animals of every kind and huge sea creatures.	25 Una parola di lui fa tacere i venti, e un suo volere mette in calma il mar profondo, e in esso il Signore pianta delle isole.
26 Thanks to God, his messenger reaches port, everything works out according to his word.	26 Quelli, che scorrono il mare, ne raccontino i pericoli; e noi all'udirli co' nostri orecchi rimarremo stupefatti.
27 We could say much more and stil fal short; to put it concisely, 'He is al .'	27 Ivi opere grandi, e ammirabili: vari generi di animali, e bestie di ogni sorta, e mostruose creature.
28 Where shall we find sufficient power to glorify him, since he is the Great One, above al his works,	28 Per lui fu stabilito (ad ogni cosa) il fine del suo viaggio, e tutto ha posto in buon ordine col suo comando.
29 the awe-inspiring Lord, stupendously great, and wonderful in his power?	29 Diremo molto, e ci mancherà la parola: ma la somma di quel, che può dirsi, si è, che egli è in tutte le cose.
30 Exalt the Lord in your praises as high as you may -- stil he surpasses you. Exert al your strengthwhen you exalt him, do not grow tired -- you wil never come to the end.	30 Che potrem far noi per glorificarlo? perocché egli l'onnipotente di tutte le opere sue è più grande.
31 Who has ever seen him to describe him? Who can glorify him as he deserves?	31 Il Signore è terribile, e grande oltre modo, ed è mirabile la sua possanza.
32 Many mysteries remain even greater than these, for we have seen only a few of his works,	32 Lodate il Signore quanto mai potrete; perocché egli sarà sempre al di sopra, e la magnificenza di lui è prodigiosa.
33 the Lord himself having created al things and given wisdom to those who are devout.	33 Benedite il Signore, ed esaltatelo quanto potete; perocché egli è maggior d'ogni laude.
	34 Armatevi di valore per esaltarlo, e non vi stancate; perocché non ne ver rete a capo giammai.
	35 Chi lo ha veduto, affin di poterlo descrivere? E chi spiegherà la sua grandezza qual ella è ab eterno?
	36 Molte sono le opere nascoste maggiori di queste; perocché poco è quel, che veggiamo delle opere di lui.
	37 Ma tutto è stato fatto dal Signore, ed egli a que', che vivono piamente dì la sapienza.
