Sirach 43

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA CEI 2008
1 Pride of the heights, a clear vault of the sky -- such is the beauty of the heavens, a glorious sight.	1 Vanto del cielo è il limpido firmamento, spettacolo celeste in una visione di gloria.
2 The sun, as he emerges, proclaims at his rising, 'How wonderful a thing, the work of the Most High!'	2 Il sole, quando appare nel suo sorgere, proclama: «Che meraviglia è l’opera dell’Altissimo!».
3 At his zenith, he parches the ground, who can withstand his blaze?	3 A mezzogiorno dissecca la terra e di fronte al suo calore chi può resistere?
4 We have to blow the furnace to produce any heat, the sun burns the mountains three times as much;breathing out blasts of fire, flashing his rays, he dazzles the eyes.	4 Si soffia nella fornace nei lavori a caldo, ma il sole brucia i monti tre volte tanto; emettendo vampe di fuoco, facendo brillare i suoi raggi, abbaglia gli occhi.
5 Great is the Lord who created him and whose word speeds him on his course.	5 Grande è il Signore che lo ha creato e con le sue parole ne affretta il corso.
6 And then the moon, ever punctual to mark the times, an everlasting sign:	6 Anche la luna, sempre puntuale nelle sue fasi, regola i mesi e indica il tempo.
7 It is the moon that signals the feasts, a luminary that wanes after being ful .	7 Viene dalla luna l’indicazione di ogni festa, fonte di luce che decresce fino a scomparire.
8 The month derives its name from hers, she waxes wonderful y in her phases, banner of the hosts onhigh, shining in the vault of heaven.	8 Da essa il mese prende nome, mirabilmente crescendo secondo le sue fasi. È un’insegna per le schiere in alto, splendendo nel firmamento del cielo.
9 The glory of the stars makes the beauty of the sky, a brilliant adornment of the Lord on High.	9 Bellezza del cielo è la gloria degli astri, ornamento che brilla nelle altezze del Signore.
10 At the words of the Holy One they stand as he decrees, and never grow slack at their watch.	10 Stanno agli ordini di colui che è santo, secondo il suo decreto, non abbandonano le loro postazioni di guardia.
11 See the rainbow and praise its Maker, so superbly beautiful in its splendour.	11 Osserva l’arcobaleno e benedici colui che lo ha fatto: quanto è bello nel suo splendore!
12 Across the sky it forms a glorious arc drawn by the hands of the Most High.	12 Avvolge il cielo con un cerchio di gloria, lo hanno teso le mani dell’Altissimo.
13 By his command he sends the snow, he speeds the lightning by his command.	13 Con il suo comando fa cadere la neve e fa guizzare i fulmini secondo il suo giudizio:
14 In the same way, his treasuries open and the clouds fly out like birds.	14 per esso si aprono i tesori celesti e le nubi volano via come uccelli.
15 His great power solidifies the clouds, then pulverises them into hail.	15 Con la sua potenza egli condensa le nuvole e si sminuzzano i chicchi di grandine.
16 at the sight of him, the mountains quake. At his wil the south wind blows,or the storm from the northand the whirlwind.	16 e al suo apparire sussultano i monti; secondo il suo volere soffia lo scirocco,
17 At the roar of his thunder, the earth writhes in labour,
18 He sprinkles snow like birds alighting, it comes down like locusts settling. The eye marvels at thebeauty of its whiteness, and the mind is amazed at its falling.	18 L’occhio ammira la bellezza del suo candore e il cuore stupisce nel vederla fioccare.
19 Over the earth, like salt, he also pours hoarfrost, which, when it freezes, bristles like thorns.	19 Riversa sulla terra la brina come sale, che gelandosi forma punte di spine.
20 The cold wind blows from the north, and ice forms on the water; it forms on every piece of standingwater, covering it like a breastplate.	20 Soffia la gelida tramontana, sull’acqua si condensa il ghiaccio; esso si posa sull’intera massa d’acqua, che si riveste come di corazza.
21 The wind swal ows up the mountains and scorches the desert, like a fire it consumes the vegetation.	21 Egli divora i monti e brucia il deserto; come fosse fuoco, inaridisce l’erba.
22 But cloud brings swift healing, and dew brings joy after the heat.	22 Rimedio di tutto è un annuvolamento improvviso, l’arrivo della rugiada ristora dal caldo.
23 By his own resourcefulness he has tamed the abyss, and planted it with islands.	23 Con la sua parola egli ha domato l’abisso e vi ha piantato le isole.
24 Those who sail the sea tell of its dangers, their accounts fill our ears with amazement:	24 I naviganti del mare ne descrivono i pericoli, a sentirli con i nostri orecchi restiamo stupiti;
25 for there too exist strange and wonderful works, animals of every kind and huge sea creatures.	25 là ci sono opere singolari e stupende, esseri viventi di ogni specie e mostri marini.
26 Thanks to God, his messenger reaches port, everything works out according to his word.	26 Per lui il suo messaggero compie un felice cammino, e per la sua parola tutto sta insieme.
27 We could say much more and stil fal short; to put it concisely, 'He is al .'	27 Potremmo dire molte cose e mai finiremmo, ma la conclusione del discorso sia: «Egli è il tutto!».
28 Where shall we find sufficient power to glorify him, since he is the Great One, above al his works,	28 Come potremmo avere la forza per lodarlo? Egli infatti, il Grande, è al di sopra di tutte le sue opere.
29 the awe-inspiring Lord, stupendously great, and wonderful in his power?	29 Il Signore è terribile e molto grande, meravigliosa è la sua potenza.
30 Exalt the Lord in your praises as high as you may -- stil he surpasses you. Exert al your strengthwhen you exalt him, do not grow tired -- you wil never come to the end.	30 Nel glorificare il Signore, esaltatelo quanto più potete, perché non sarà mai abbastanza. Nell’esaltarlo moltiplicate la vostra forza, non stancatevi, perché non finirete mai.
31 Who has ever seen him to describe him? Who can glorify him as he deserves?	31 Chi lo ha contemplato e lo descriverà? Chi può magnificarlo come egli è?
32 Many mysteries remain even greater than these, for we have seen only a few of his works,	32 Vi sono molte cose nascoste più grandi di queste: noi contempliamo solo una parte delle sue opere.
33 the Lord himself having created al things and given wisdom to those who are devout.	33 Il Signore infatti ha creato ogni cosa e ha dato la sapienza ai suoi fedeli.
