Sirach 39

NEW JERUSALEM	SAGRADA BIBLIA
1 Not so with one who concentrates his mind and his meditation on the Law of the Most High. Heresearches into the wisdom of al the Ancients, he occupies his time with the prophecies.	1 O sábio procura cuidadosamente a sabedoria de todos os antigos, e aplica-se ao estudo dos profetas.
2 He preserves the discourses of famous men, he is at home with the niceties of parables.	2 Guarda no coração as narrativas dos homens célebres, e penetra ao mesmo tempo nos mistérios das máximas.
3 He researches into the hidden sense of proverbs, he ponders the obscurities of parables.	3 Penetra nos segredos dos provérbios, e vive com o sentido oculto das parábolas.
4 He enters the service of princes, he is seen in the presence of rulers. He travels in foreign countries, hehas experienced human good and human evil.	4 Exerce o seu cargo no meio dos poderosos, e comparece perante aqueles que governam.
5 At dawn and with al his heart he turns to the Lord his Creator; he pleads in the presence of the MostHigh, he opens his mouth in prayer and makes entreaty for his sins.	5 Viaja pela terra de povos estrangeiros, para reconhecer o que há do bem e do mal entre os homens.
6 If such be the wil of the great Lord, he wil be filled with the spirit of intel igence, he wil shower forthwords of wisdom, and in prayer give thanks to the Lord.	6 Desde o alvorecer aplica o coração à vigília para se unir ao Senhor que o criou, e ora na presença do Altíssimo.
7 He will grow upright in purpose and learning, he will ponder the Lord's hidden mysteries.	7 Abre sua boca para orar, e pede perdão de seus pecados,
8 He will display the instruction he has received, taking his pride in the Law of the Lord's covenant.	8 pois se for da vontade do Senhor que é grande, ele o cumulará do espírito de inteligência.
9 Many wil praise his intel igence and it wil never be forgotten. His memory will not disappear,generation after generation his name will live.	9 Então ele espargirá como uma chuva palavras de sabedoria, e louvará o Senhor em sua oração.
10 Nations wil proclaim his wisdom, the assembly will celebrate his praises.	10 O Senhor orientará seus conselhos e seus ensinamentos, e ele meditará nos mistérios (divinos).
11 If he lives long, his name will be more glorious than a thousand others, and if he dies, that wil satisfyhim just as wel .	11 Ensinará ele próprio o conhecimento de sua doutrina. Porá sua glória na lei da aliança do Senhor.
12 And here are some more of my reflections: yes, I am as ful as the moon at the ful !	12 Muitos homens louvarão sua sabedoria: jamais cairá ela no esquecimento.
13 Listen to me, devout children, and blossom like the rose that grows on the bank of a watercourse.	13 A sua memória não desaparecerá; seu nome será repetido de geração em geração.
14 Give off a sweet smel like incense, flower like the lily, spread your fragrance abroad, sing a song ofpraise blessing the Lord for all his works.	14 As nações proclamarão sua sabedoria, a assembléia apregoará seu louvor.
15 Declare the greatness of his name, proclaim his praise with song and with lyre, and this is how youmust sing his praises:	15 Enquanto viver, terá maior nome que mil outros, e, quando repousar, será feliz.
16 'How wonderful, the actions of the Lord! Whatever he orders is done at the proper time!' You must notsay, 'What is this? Why is that?' There is a proper time for every question.	16 Refletirei ainda para contá-lo, pois estou cheio de um entusiasmo
17 At his word, the water stops and piles up high, at his voice, the watery reservoirs take shape,	17 que diz: Ouvi-me, rebentos divinos, desabrochai como uma roseira plantada à beira das águas;
18 at his command, whatever he wants is done, no one can stop him, if he intends to save.	18 como o Líbano, espargi suave aroma,
19 He can see whatever human beings are doing, nothing can be hidden from his eye;	19 dai flores como o lírio, exalai perfume e estendei graciosa folhagem. Cantai cânticos e bendizei o Senhor nas suas obras.
20 his gaze stretches from eternity to eternity, and nothing can astonish him.	20 Dai ao seu nome magníficos elogios, glorificai-o com a voz de vossos lábios, com os cânticos de vossos lábios e a música das harpas. Direis assim à guisa de louvor:
21 You must not say, 'What is this? Why is that?' for everything has been made for a purpose.	21 Todas as obras do Senhor são excelentes;
22 As his blessing covers the dry land like a river and soaks it like a flood,	22 à sua voz conteve-se a água amontoada, a uma palavra de sua boca as águas ajuntaram-se como em reservatórios.
23 so retribution is his legacy to the nations, just as he has turned fresh waters to salt.	23 À sua ordem, fez-se calmaria, e a salvação que ele dá não será mesquinha.
24 His ways are as smooth for the devout, as they are ful of obstacles for the wicked.	24 São-lhe apresentadas as ações de todos os viventes, nada é oculto aos seus olhos.
25 Good things were created from the beginning for good people, as bad ones were for sinners.	25 Seu olhar abrange de um século a outro: nada é maravilhoso para ele.
26 The prime needs of human beings for living are water and fire, iron and salt, wheat-flour, milk andhoney, the juice of the grape, oil and clothing.	26 Não se deve dizer: O que é isso, o que é aquilo? Pois todas as coisas serão examinadas a seu tempo.
27 Al these are good for those who are good, but turn out bad for sinners.	27 A bênção dele é como um rio que transborda;
28 Some winds have been created for punishing, in his fury, he uses them as scourges; on the day ofdoom, they unleash their violence and appease the wrath of their Creator.	28 como o dilúvio inundou a terra inteira, assim a sua cólera será a sorte dos povos que não o procuram.
29 Fire and hail, famine and death, have al been created for punishing.	29 Assim como ele transformou as águas em aridez e ressecou a terra, e o seu comportamento é determinado pelo deles, assim, em sua ira, seu comportamento é motivo de queda para os pecadores.
30 Wild animals' fangs, scorpions, vipers, the avenging sword for the ruin of the godless:	30 Assim como os bens, desde o princípio, foram criados para os bons, assim os bens e os males o foram para os maus.
31 all of them exult in discharging his orders, ready on earth whenever the need arises and, when theirtime comes, not fal ing short of his word.	31 As coisas mais necessárias à vida do homem são: a água, o fogo, o ferro, o sal, o leite, o pão da flor de farinha, o mel, a uva, o azeite e o vestuário:
32 That is why I was determined from the outset, why I have pondered and why I have written,	32 todas essas coisas são bens para os fiéis, mas tornam-se males para os ímpios e os pecadores.
33 'The works of the Lord are all good, when the time is right, he gives whatever is needed.	33 Há espíritos que foram criados para a vingança: aumentaram seus tormentos pelo seu furor.
34 You must not say, "This is worse than that," for, sooner or later, everything proves its worth.	34 No tempo do extermínio manifestarão sua força, e apaziguarão a fúria daquele que os criou.
35 So now, sing with al your heart and voice, and bless the name of the Lord!'	35 Fogo, granizo, fome e morte, tudo isso foi criado para a vingança,
	36 como também os dentes dos animais, os escorpiões, as serpentes, e a espada vingadora destinada ao extermínio dos ímpios.
	37 Todas essas coisas se regozijam com as ordens do Senhor, e mantêm-se prontas sobre a terra para servir oportunamente, e, chegando o tempo, não omitirão uma só de suas palavras.
	38 Por isso, desde o princípio estou firme em minhas idéias; refleti e as escrevi.
	39 Todas as obras do Senhor são boas; ele põe cada coisa em prática quando chega o tempo.
	40 Não há razão para dizer: Isto é pior do que aquilo, porque todas as coisas serão achadas boas a seu tempo.
	41 E agora, de todo o coração e com a boca, cantai e bendizei o nome do Senhor!
