Sirach 39

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA CEI 2008
1 Not so with one who concentrates his mind and his meditation on the Law of the Most High. Heresearches into the wisdom of al the Ancients, he occupies his time with the prophecies.	1 Egli ricerca la sapienza di tutti gli antichi e si dedica allo studio delle profezie.
2 He preserves the discourses of famous men, he is at home with the niceties of parables.	2 Conserva i detti degli uomini famosi e penetra le sottigliezze delle parabole,
3 He researches into the hidden sense of proverbs, he ponders the obscurities of parables.	3 ricerca il senso recondito dei proverbi e si occupa degli enigmi delle parabole.
4 He enters the service of princes, he is seen in the presence of rulers. He travels in foreign countries, hehas experienced human good and human evil.	4 Svolge il suo compito fra i grandi, lo si vede tra i capi, viaggia in terre di popoli stranieri, sperimentando il bene e il male in mezzo agli uomini.
5 At dawn and with al his heart he turns to the Lord his Creator; he pleads in the presence of the MostHigh, he opens his mouth in prayer and makes entreaty for his sins.	5 Gli sta a cuore alzarsi di buon mattino per il Signore, che lo ha creato; davanti all’Altissimo fa la sua supplica, apre la sua bocca alla preghiera e implora per i suoi peccati.
6 If such be the wil of the great Lord, he wil be filled with the spirit of intel igence, he wil shower forthwords of wisdom, and in prayer give thanks to the Lord.	6 Se il Signore, che è grande, vorrà, egli sarà ricolmato di spirito d’intelligenza: come pioggia effonderà le parole della sua sapienza e nella preghiera renderà lode al Signore.
7 He will grow upright in purpose and learning, he will ponder the Lord's hidden mysteries.	7 Saprà orientare il suo consiglio e la sua scienza e riflettere sui segreti di Dio.
8 He will display the instruction he has received, taking his pride in the Law of the Lord's covenant.	8 Manifesterà la dottrina del suo insegnamento, si vanterà della legge dell’alleanza del Signore.
9 Many wil praise his intel igence and it wil never be forgotten. His memory will not disappear,generation after generation his name will live.	9 Molti loderanno la sua intelligenza, egli non sarà mai dimenticato; non scomparirà il suo ricordo, il suo nome vivrà di generazione in generazione.
10 Nations wil proclaim his wisdom, the assembly will celebrate his praises.	10 I popoli parleranno della sua sapienza, l’assemblea proclamerà la sua lode.
11 If he lives long, his name will be more glorious than a thousand others, and if he dies, that wil satisfyhim just as wel .	11 Se vivrà a lungo, lascerà un nome più famoso di mille altri e quando morrà, avrà già fatto abbastanza per sé.
12 And here are some more of my reflections: yes, I am as ful as the moon at the ful !	12 Dopo aver riflettuto, parlerò ancora, sono pieno come la luna nel plenilunio.
13 Listen to me, devout children, and blossom like the rose that grows on the bank of a watercourse.	13 Ascoltatemi, figli santi, e crescete come una rosa che germoglia presso un torrente.
14 Give off a sweet smel like incense, flower like the lily, spread your fragrance abroad, sing a song ofpraise blessing the Lord for all his works.	14 Come incenso spargete buon profumo, fate sbocciare fiori come il giglio, alzate la voce e cantate insieme, benedite il Signore per tutte le sue opere.
15 Declare the greatness of his name, proclaim his praise with song and with lyre, and this is how youmust sing his praises:	15 Magnificate il suo nome e proclamate la sua lode, con i canti delle labbra e con le cetre, e nella vostra acclamazione dite così:
16 'How wonderful, the actions of the Lord! Whatever he orders is done at the proper time!' You must notsay, 'What is this? Why is that?' There is a proper time for every question.	16 Quanto sono belle tutte le opere del Signore! Ogni suo ordine si compirà a suo tempo!
17 At his word, the water stops and piles up high, at his voice, the watery reservoirs take shape,	17 Non bisogna dire: «Che cos’è questo? Perché quello?». Tutto infatti sarà esaminato a suo tempo. Alla sua parola l’acqua si arresta come una massa, a un detto della sua bocca si aprono i serbatoi delle acque.
18 at his command, whatever he wants is done, no one can stop him, if he intends to save.	18 A un suo comando si realizza quanto egli vuole, e nessuno potrà sminuire la sua opera di salvezza.
19 He can see whatever human beings are doing, nothing can be hidden from his eye;	19 Le opere di ogni uomo sono davanti a lui, non è possibile nascondersi ai suoi occhi;
20 his gaze stretches from eternity to eternity, and nothing can astonish him.	20 egli guarda da un’eternità all’altra, nulla è straordinario davanti a lui.
21 You must not say, 'What is this? Why is that?' for everything has been made for a purpose.	21 Non bisogna dire: «Che cos’è questo? Perché quello?». Tutto infatti è stato creato con uno scopo preciso.
22 As his blessing covers the dry land like a river and soaks it like a flood,	22 La sua benedizione si diffonde come un fiume e come un diluvio inebria la terra.
23 so retribution is his legacy to the nations, just as he has turned fresh waters to salt.	23 Così i popoli erediteranno la sua ira, come trasformò le acque in deserto salato.
24 His ways are as smooth for the devout, as they are ful of obstacles for the wicked.	24 Le sue vie sono diritte per i santi, ma per gli empi sono piene d’inciampi.
25 Good things were created from the beginning for good people, as bad ones were for sinners.	25 Per i buoni i beni furono creati sin da principio, allo stesso modo i mali per i peccatori.
26 The prime needs of human beings for living are water and fire, iron and salt, wheat-flour, milk andhoney, the juice of the grape, oil and clothing.	26 Le cose di prima necessità per la vita dell’uomo sono: acqua, fuoco, ferro, sale, farina di frumento, latte, miele, succo di uva, olio e vestito.
27 Al these are good for those who are good, but turn out bad for sinners.	27 Tutte queste cose sono un bene per i buoni, allo stesso modo si volgono in male per i peccatori.
28 Some winds have been created for punishing, in his fury, he uses them as scourges; on the day ofdoom, they unleash their violence and appease the wrath of their Creator.	28 Ci sono venti creati per castigare e nella loro furia rafforzano i loro flagelli; quando verrà la fine, scateneranno violenza e placheranno lo sdegno del loro creatore.
29 Fire and hail, famine and death, have al been created for punishing.	29 Fuoco, grandine, fame e morte sono tutte cose create per il castigo.
30 Wild animals' fangs, scorpions, vipers, the avenging sword for the ruin of the godless:	30 Denti delle fiere, scorpioni, vipere e spade vendicatrici sono per la rovina degli empi.
31 all of them exult in discharging his orders, ready on earth whenever the need arises and, when theirtime comes, not fal ing short of his word.	31 Si rallegrano quando lui li comanda, stanno pronti sulla terra secondo il bisogno e al momento opportuno non trasgrediscono la sua parola.
32 That is why I was determined from the outset, why I have pondered and why I have written,	32 Di questo ero convinto fin dal principio, vi ho riflettuto e l’ho messo per iscritto:
33 'The works of the Lord are all good, when the time is right, he gives whatever is needed.	33 «Le opere del Signore sono tutte buone; egli provvederà a ogni necessità a suo tempo».
34 You must not say, "This is worse than that," for, sooner or later, everything proves its worth.	34 Non bisogna dire: «Questo è peggiore di quello». Tutto infatti al tempo giusto sarà riconosciuto buono.
35 So now, sing with al your heart and voice, and bless the name of the Lord!'	35 E ora cantate inni con tutto il cuore e con la bocca, e benedite il nome del Signore.
