Sirach 39

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLIA
1 Not so with one who concentrates his mind and his meditation on the Law of the Most High. Heresearches into the wisdom of al the Ancients, he occupies his time with the prophecies.	1 No así el que aplica su alma a meditar la ley del Altísimo. La sabiduría de todos los antiguos rebusca, a los profecías consagra sus ocios,
2 He preserves the discourses of famous men, he is at home with the niceties of parables.	2 conserva los relatos de varones célebres, en los repliegues de las parábolas penetra,
3 He researches into the hidden sense of proverbs, he ponders the obscurities of parables.	3 busca los secretos de los proverbios y en los enigmas de las parábolas insiste.
4 He enters the service of princes, he is seen in the presence of rulers. He travels in foreign countries, hehas experienced human good and human evil.	4 En medio de los grandes ejerce su servicio, ante los jefes aparece; viaja por tierras extranjeras, adquiere experiencia de lo bueno y lo malo entre los hombres.
5 At dawn and with al his heart he turns to the Lord his Creator; he pleads in the presence of the MostHigh, he opens his mouth in prayer and makes entreaty for his sins.	5 Aplica su corazón a ir bien de mañana donde el Señor su Hacedor; suplica ante el Altísimo, abre su boca en oración y por sus pecados suplica.
6 If such be the wil of the great Lord, he wil be filled with the spirit of intel igence, he wil shower forthwords of wisdom, and in prayer give thanks to the Lord.	6 Si el gran Señor lo quiere, del espíritu de inteligencia será lleno. El mismo derramará como lluvia las palabras de su sabiduría, y en la oración dará gracias al Señor.
7 He will grow upright in purpose and learning, he will ponder the Lord's hidden mysteries.	7 Enderezará su consejo y su ciencia. y en sus misterios ocultos hará meditación.
8 He will display the instruction he has received, taking his pride in the Law of the Lord's covenant.	8 Mostrará la instrucción recibida, y en la ley de la alianza del Señor se gloriará.
9 Many wil praise his intel igence and it wil never be forgotten. His memory will not disappear,generation after generation his name will live.	9 Muchos elogiarán su inteligencia, jamás será olvidada. No desaparecerá su recuerdo, su nombre vivirá de generación en generación.
10 Nations wil proclaim his wisdom, the assembly will celebrate his praises.	10 Su sabiduría comentarán las naciones, su elogio, lo publicará la asamblea.
11 If he lives long, his name will be more glorious than a thousand others, and if he dies, that wil satisfyhim just as wel .	11 Mientras viva, su nombre dejará atrás a mil, y cuando descanse, él le bastará.
12 And here are some more of my reflections: yes, I am as ful as the moon at the ful !	12 Aún voy a hablar después de meditar, que estoy colmado como la luna llena.
13 Listen to me, devout children, and blossom like the rose that grows on the bank of a watercourse.	13 Escuchadme, hijos piadosos, y creced como rosa que brota junto a corrientes de agua.
14 Give off a sweet smel like incense, flower like the lily, spread your fragrance abroad, sing a song ofpraise blessing the Lord for all his works.	14 Como incienso derramad buen olor, abríos en flor como el lirio, exhalad perfume, cantad un cantar, bendecid al Señor por todas sus obras.
15 Declare the greatness of his name, proclaim his praise with song and with lyre, and this is how youmust sing his praises:	15 Engrandeced su nombre, dadle gracias por su alabanza, con los cantares de vuestros labios y con cítaras, decid así en acción de gracias:
16 'How wonderful, the actions of the Lord! Whatever he orders is done at the proper time!' You must notsay, 'What is this? Why is that?' There is a proper time for every question.	16 ¡Qué hermosas son todas las obras del Señor! todas sus órdenes se ejecutan a su hora. No hay por qué decir: ¿Qué es esto? Y esto ¿para qué?, que todo se ha de buscar a su tiempo.
17 At his word, the water stops and piles up high, at his voice, the watery reservoirs take shape,	17 A su orden el agua se detiene en una masa, a la palabra de su boca se forman los depósitos de las aguas.
18 at his command, whatever he wants is done, no one can stop him, if he intends to save.	18 A una orden suya se hace todo lo que desea, y no hay quien pueda estorbar su salvación.
19 He can see whatever human beings are doing, nothing can be hidden from his eye;	19 Las obras de toda carne están delante de él, y nada puede ocultarse a sus ojos.
20 his gaze stretches from eternity to eternity, and nothing can astonish him.	20 Su mirada abarca de eternidad a eternidad, y nada hay admirable para él.
21 You must not say, 'What is this? Why is that?' for everything has been made for a purpose.	21 No hay por qué decir: ¿Qué es esto? Y esto ¿para qué?, pues todo ha sido creado con un fin.
22 As his blessing covers the dry land like a river and soaks it like a flood,	22 Su bendición se ha desbordado como un río, como un diluvio ha inundado la tierra.
23 so retribution is his legacy to the nations, just as he has turned fresh waters to salt.	23 De igual modo las naciones recibirán en herencia su ira, como cuando él cambió las aguas en salinas.
24 His ways are as smooth for the devout, as they are ful of obstacles for the wicked.	24 Sus caminos rectos son para los santos, así como para los sin ley son piedras de tropiezo.
25 Good things were created from the beginning for good people, as bad ones were for sinners.	25 Los bienes están desde el principio creados para los buenos, así como los males para los pecadores.
26 The prime needs of human beings for living are water and fire, iron and salt, wheat-flour, milk andhoney, the juice of the grape, oil and clothing.	26 De primera necesidad para la vida del hombre es el agua, el fuego, el hierro y la sal, la flor de harina de trigo, la leche y la miel, el jugo de uva, el aceite y el vestido.
27 Al these are good for those who are good, but turn out bad for sinners.	27 Todo esto son bienes para los piadosos, mas para los pecadores se truecan en males.
28 Some winds have been created for punishing, in his fury, he uses them as scourges; on the day ofdoom, they unleash their violence and appease the wrath of their Creator.	28 Hay vientos creados para el castigo, en su furor ha endurecido él sus látigos; al tiempo de la consumación su fuerza expanden, y desahogan el furor del que los hizo.
29 Fire and hail, famine and death, have al been created for punishing.	29 Fuego y granizo, hambre y muerte, para el castigo ha sido creado todo esto.
30 Wild animals' fangs, scorpions, vipers, the avenging sword for the ruin of the godless:	30 Y dientes de fieras, escorpiones, víboras y espada vengadora para la perdición del impío.
31 all of them exult in discharging his orders, ready on earth whenever the need arises and, when theirtime comes, not fal ing short of his word.	31 Todos hallan contento en hacer su mandato, en la tierra están prontos para su menester, y llegada la ocasión no traspasarán su orden.
32 That is why I was determined from the outset, why I have pondered and why I have written,	32 Por eso desde el principio me reafirmé, medité y he puesto por escrito:
33 'The works of the Lord are all good, when the time is right, he gives whatever is needed.	33 «Las obras del Señor son todas buenas, a su tiempo provee él a toda necesidad.
34 You must not say, "This is worse than that," for, sooner or later, everything proves its worth.	34 No hay por qué decir: Esto es peor que aquello, porque todo a su tiempo es aprobado.
35 So now, sing with al your heart and voice, and bless the name of the Lord!'	35 Y ahora con todo el corazón y la boca cantad himnos y bendecid el nombre del Señor».
