Sirach 39

NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 Not so with one who concentrates his mind and his meditation on the Law of the Most High. Heresearches into the wisdom of al the Ancients, he occupies his time with the prophecies.	1 No pasa lo mismo con el que consagra su vida a reflexionar sobre la Ley del Altísimo. El busca la sabiduría de todos los antiguos y dedica su tiempo a estudiar las profecías;
2 He preserves the discourses of famous men, he is at home with the niceties of parables.	2 conserva los dichos de los hombres famosos y penetra en las sutilezas de las parábolas;
3 He researches into the hidden sense of proverbs, he ponders the obscurities of parables.	3 indaga el sentido oculto de los proverbios y estudia sin cesar las sentencias enigmáticas.
4 He enters the service of princes, he is seen in the presence of rulers. He travels in foreign countries, hehas experienced human good and human evil.	4 Presta servicio entre los grandes y se lo ve en la presencia de los jefes; viaja por países extranjero, porque conoce por experiencia lo bueno y lo malo de los hombres.
5 At dawn and with al his heart he turns to the Lord his Creator; he pleads in the presence of the MostHigh, he opens his mouth in prayer and makes entreaty for his sins.	5 De todo corazón, muy de madrugada, se dirige al Señor, su Creador, y suplica en la presencia del Altísimo; abre sus labios para orar y pide perdón por sus pecados.
6 If such be the wil of the great Lord, he wil be filled with the spirit of intel igence, he wil shower forthwords of wisdom, and in prayer give thanks to the Lord.	6 Si el gran Señor así lo desea, será colmado del espíritu de inteligencia: derramará como lluvia sus sabias palabras y celebrará al Señor con su plegaria;
7 He will grow upright in purpose and learning, he will ponder the Lord's hidden mysteries.	7 dirigirá rectamente su conejo y su ciencia y reflexionará sobre los secretos de Dios;
8 He will display the instruction he has received, taking his pride in the Law of the Lord's covenant.	8 con su enseñanza hará brillar la doctrina y se gloriará en la Ley de Alianza del Señor.
9 Many wil praise his intel igence and it wil never be forgotten. His memory will not disappear,generation after generation his name will live.	9 Muchos alabarán su inteligencia, que nunca caerá en el olvido; su recuerdo no se borrará jamás y su nombre vivirá para siempre.
10 Nations wil proclaim his wisdom, the assembly will celebrate his praises.	10 Las naciones hablarán de su sabiduría y la asamblea proclamará su alabanza.
11 If he lives long, his name will be more glorious than a thousand others, and if he dies, that wil satisfyhim just as wel .	11 Si vive largo tiempo, tendrá más renombre que otros mil; si entra en el reposo, eso le bastará.
12 And here are some more of my reflections: yes, I am as ful as the moon at the ful !	12 Voy a seguir exponiendo mis reflexiones, porque estoy colmado como la luna llena.
13 Listen to me, devout children, and blossom like the rose that grows on the bank of a watercourse.	13 Escúchenme, hijos santos, y crezcan como rosal que brota junto a la corriente de agua.
14 Give off a sweet smel like incense, flower like the lily, spread your fragrance abroad, sing a song ofpraise blessing the Lord for all his works.	14 Exhalen suave fragancia como el incienso y florezcan como el lirio; derramen aroma y entonen un canto, bendigan al Señor por todas sus obras.
15 Declare the greatness of his name, proclaim his praise with song and with lyre, and this is how youmust sing his praises:	15 Reconozcan que su Nombre es grande, denle gracias, proclamando su alabanza, con cantos en los labios y con arpas, y digan en la acción de gracias:
16 'How wonderful, the actions of the Lord! Whatever he orders is done at the proper time!' You must notsay, 'What is this? Why is that?' There is a proper time for every question.	16 ¡Qué hermosas son todas las obras del Señor, y todo lo que él ordena se cumple a su tiempo! No hay por qué decir: «¿Qué es esto? ¿Para qué está?». Porque todo será comprendido en su momento.
17 At his word, the water stops and piles up high, at his voice, the watery reservoirs take shape,	17 Por su palabra, las aguas se detuvieron como una masa; por una de sus órdenes, se formaron los depósitos de agua.
18 at his command, whatever he wants is done, no one can stop him, if he intends to save.	18 El lo ordena, y se cumple su voluntad, y nadie puede menoscabar su obra salvadora.
19 He can see whatever human beings are doing, nothing can be hidden from his eye;	19 Las obras de todo ser viviente están ante él y nada puede ocultarse a sus ojos.
20 his gaze stretches from eternity to eternity, and nothing can astonish him.	20 El abarca con la mira los límites del tiempo y no hay nada extraordinario para él.
21 You must not say, 'What is this? Why is that?' for everything has been made for a purpose.	21 No hay por qué decir: «¿Qué es esto? ¿Para qué está?». Porque todo ha sido creado con un fin.
22 As his blessing covers the dry land like a river and soaks it like a flood,	22 Su bendición desborda como un río y como un diluvio, empapa la tierra.
23 so retribution is his legacy to the nations, just as he has turned fresh waters to salt.	23 Pero su ira será la herencia de las naciones, igual que cuando él cambió las aguas en sal.
24 His ways are as smooth for the devout, as they are ful of obstacles for the wicked.	24 Sus caminos son rectos para los santos, pero están llenos de obstáculos para los impíos.
25 Good things were created from the beginning for good people, as bad ones were for sinners.	25 Los bienes fueron creados desde el principio para los buenos, así como los males para los pecadores.
26 The prime needs of human beings for living are water and fire, iron and salt, wheat-flour, milk andhoney, the juice of the grape, oil and clothing.	26 Lo más indispensable para la vida del hombre es el agua y el fuego, el hierro y la sal, la harina de trigo, la leche y la miel, la sangre de la vid, el aceite y la ropa:
27 Al these are good for those who are good, but turn out bad for sinners.	27 todo esto es beneficioso para los buenos, y se vuelve perjudicial para los pecadores.
28 Some winds have been created for punishing, in his fury, he uses them as scourges; on the day ofdoom, they unleash their violence and appease the wrath of their Creator.	28 Hay vientos que fueron creados para el castigo, y en su furor, él los hace más impetuosos: en el momento de la destrucción, desencadenan su violencia y apaciguan el furor de aquel que los hizo.
29 Fire and hail, famine and death, have al been created for punishing.	29 Fuego, granizo, hambre y peste: todo esto fue creado para el castigo.
30 Wild animals' fangs, scorpions, vipers, the avenging sword for the ruin of the godless:	30 Los dientes de las fieras, los escorpiones y las víboras, y la espada vengadora que destruye al impío,
31 all of them exult in discharging his orders, ready on earth whenever the need arises and, when theirtime comes, not fal ing short of his word.	31 todos ellos se alegran de sus órdenes y están sobre la tierra dispuestos a servirlo: llegado el momento, no transgredirán su palabra.
32 That is why I was determined from the outset, why I have pondered and why I have written,	32 Por eso, desde el principio, convencí de esto, reflexioné, y lo puse por escrito:
33 'The works of the Lord are all good, when the time is right, he gives whatever is needed.	33 Las obras del Señor son todas buenas, y a su debido tiempo, él provee a toda necesidad.
34 You must not say, "This is worse than that," for, sooner or later, everything proves its worth.	34 No hay por qué decir: «Esto es peor que aquello», porque a su tiempo todo será reconocido como bueno.
35 So now, sing with al your heart and voice, and bless the name of the Lord!'	35 Y ahora, de todo corazón y en alta voz, canten himnos y bendigan el nombre del Señor».
