Sirach 39

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA RICCIOTTI
1 Not so with one who concentrates his mind and his meditation on the Law of the Most High. Heresearches into the wisdom of al the Ancients, he occupies his time with the prophecies.	1 Il sapiente ricerca la sapienza di tutti gli antichi, e si occupa de' profeti.
2 He preserves the discourses of famous men, he is at home with the niceties of parables.	2 Le spiegazioni degli uomini celebri tiene di conto, e ne' rigiri degli acuti detti s'addentra con [loro].
3 He researches into the hidden sense of proverbs, he ponders the obscurities of parables.	3 Il senso riposto de' proverbi egli scruta, e sugli enimmi delle allegorie s'intrattiene.
4 He enters the service of princes, he is seen in the presence of rulers. He travels in foreign countries, hehas experienced human good and human evil.	4 In mezzo a' magnati e' presta servizio, e al cospetto del principe apparisce.
5 At dawn and with al his heart he turns to the Lord his Creator; he pleads in the presence of the MostHigh, he opens his mouth in prayer and makes entreaty for his sins.	5 In paese di popoli stranieri farà viaggi, perchè il bene e il male ei vuol saggiare tra gli uomini.
6 If such be the wil of the great Lord, he wil be filled with the spirit of intel igence, he wil shower forthwords of wisdom, and in prayer give thanks to the Lord.	6 Il suo cuore e' lo mette nel ricercar di buon mattino il Signore che [l'ha creato,] e davanti all'Altissimo inalza preghiere.
7 He will grow upright in purpose and learning, he will ponder the Lord's hidden mysteries.	7 Apre la sua bocca nell'orazione, e prega per i suoi peccati.
8 He will display the instruction he has received, taking his pride in the Law of the Lord's covenant.	8 Se il Signore, il grande [Iddio], vorrà, lo riempirà dello spirito d'intelligenza.
9 Many wil praise his intel igence and it wil never be forgotten. His memory will not disappear,generation after generation his name will live.	9 E come pioggia [allora] e' spanderà le parole della sua sapienze, e nell'orazione loderà il Signore.
10 Nations wil proclaim his wisdom, the assembly will celebrate his praises.	10 Indirizzerà bene la sua prudenza e il sapere, e sui misteri di lui mediterà.
11 If he lives long, his name will be more glorious than a thousand others, and if he dies, that wil satisfyhim just as wel .	11 Divulgherà l'insegnamento della sua dottrina, e nella legge dell'alleanza del Signore si glorierà.
12 And here are some more of my reflections: yes, I am as ful as the moon at the ful !	12 Loderanno molti la sapienza di lui, e non sarà dimenticato in eterno.
13 Listen to me, devout children, and blossom like the rose that grows on the bank of a watercourse.	13 Non perirà la sua memoria, e il suo nome vivrà di generazione in generazione.
14 Give off a sweet smel like incense, flower like the lily, spread your fragrance abroad, sing a song ofpraise blessing the Lord for all his works.	14 La sapienza di lui celebreranno i popoli, e le sue lodi predicherà l'assemblea.
15 Declare the greatness of his name, proclaim his praise with song and with lyre, and this is how youmust sing his praises:	15 Finché rimane [in vita], il suo nome è più celebre di mille, e quando riposerà [nella tomba], ciò sarà a lui di profitto.
16 'How wonderful, the actions of the Lord! Whatever he orders is done at the proper time!' You must notsay, 'What is this? Why is that?' There is a proper time for every question.	16 Seguiterò ad esporre il frutto delle mie riflessioni, perchè come d'un [sacro] furore son pieno.
17 At his word, the water stops and piles up high, at his voice, the watery reservoirs take shape,	17 Ascoltatemi, o divini rampolli, e germogliate come rosa piantata in riva alle acque.
18 at his command, whatever he wants is done, no one can stop him, if he intends to save.	18 Come incenso mandate profumo soave,
19 He can see whatever human beings are doing, nothing can be hidden from his eye;	19 fate fiori come il giglio, e spandete odore e ricopritevi di amene fronde. E cantate un cantico di lode e benedite il Signore per [tutte] le opere sue.
20 his gaze stretches from eternity to eternity, and nothing can astonish him.	20 Date gloria al suo nome, e lodatelo col suono delle vostre labbra e coi canti delle labbra e con le cetre. E cosi direte celebrandolo:
21 You must not say, 'What is this? Why is that?' for everything has been made for a purpose.	21 « Le opere tutte del Signore son buone molto, [e ogni comando si compie a suo tempo] ».
22 As his blessing covers the dry land like a river and soaks it like a flood,	22 Ad una sua parola si stette l'acqua come ammassata, e a un detto della sua bocca [ci furon] come serbatoi d'acqua.
23 so retribution is his legacy to the nations, just as he has turned fresh waters to salt.	23 Perchè, al suo comando, si compie quanto a lui place, e non c'è impedimento alla salvezza da lui [largita].
24 His ways are as smooth for the devout, as they are ful of obstacles for the wicked.	24 Le opere d'ognl mortale sono davanti a lui, e nulla è nascosto ai suoi occhi.
25 Good things were created from the beginning for good people, as bad ones were for sinners.	25 Da secolo a secolo egli stende lo sguardo, e nulla c'è di meraviglioso dinanzi a lui.
26 The prime needs of human beings for living are water and fire, iron and salt, wheat-flour, milk andhoney, the juice of the grape, oil and clothing.	26 Non s'ha a dire: «Cos'è questo? a che prò questo?», perchè ogni cosa sarà ricercata [e utile] a suo tempo,
27 Al these are good for those who are good, but turn out bad for sinners.	27 La benedizione di lui inonda quasi un fiume,
28 Some winds have been created for punishing, in his fury, he uses them as scourges; on the day ofdoom, they unleash their violence and appease the wrath of their Creator.	28 [e] come il diluvio Inzuppa l'arida [terra]. Così l'ira di lui s'impossessera delle genti che non l'han cercato,
29 Fire and hail, famine and death, have al been created for punishing.	29 come cambiò una ben irrigata regione in salato deserto. Le sue vie son diritte [e piane] per i pii: per gli empi, divengono inciampi a cagion dell'ira sua.
30 Wild animals' fangs, scorpions, vipers, the avenging sword for the ruin of the godless:	30 I beni furon per i buoni fin da principio: così per i malvagi i mali.
31 all of them exult in discharging his orders, ready on earth whenever the need arises and, when theirtime comes, not fal ing short of his word.	31 Le necessità prime per la vita dell'uomo sono acqua, fuoco e ferro, sale, latte, pane di farina, miele, il grappolo d'uva, l'olio e il vestito.
32 That is why I was determined from the outset, why I have pondered and why I have written,	32 Tutte queste cose son beni per i pii, e si convertono in mali per gli empi e i peccatori.
33 'The works of the Lord are all good, when the time is right, he gives whatever is needed.	33 C'è de' venti creati per il castigo, e nel loro furore aggravano i loro flagelli.
34 You must not say, "This is worse than that," for, sooner or later, everything proves its worth.	34 Nel tempo della distribuzione metton fuori la loro forza, e placano lo sdegno di colui che gli ha creati.
35 So now, sing with al your heart and voice, and bless the name of the Lord!'	35 Fuoco, grandine, fame e peste, tutte queste cose son create [anch'esse] per il castigo.
	36 E così pure le zanne delle belve e gli scorpioni e le vipere e la spada vendicatrice a sterminio degli empi.
	37 Ai comandi di lui si rallegrano, e sulla terra stan pronte al bisogno, e a suo tempo non ne trasgrediranno l'ordine.
	38 Perciò fin da principio mi confermai [in questa idea], e dopo ponderata riflessione [la] misi in iscritto.
	39 Tutte le opere del Signore sono buone, e a ogni bisogno basterà [nno] nel momento opportuno»
	40 Non s'ha a dire: « Questa cosa è peggiore di quella »; perchè ogni cosa sarà riconosciuta buona a suo tempo.
	41 E ora con tutto il cuore e la bocca inneggiate, e benedite il nome del Signore.
