Sirach 35

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 One who keeps the Law multiplies offerings; one who fol ows the commandments offers communionsacrifices.	1 L'osservanza della legge val più dei sacrifici, la pratica dei comandamenti è sacrificio di comunione.
2 Proof of gratitude is an offering of fine flour, almsgiving a sacrifice of praise.	2 Chi ricambia un favore è come chi fa offerta di farina, e chi dà l'elemosina è come chi fa un sacrificio di ringraziamento.
3 To abandon wickedness is what pleases the Lord, to give up wrong-doing is an expiatory sacrifice.	3 Piace al Signore lo star lontani dal male, astenersi dall'ingiustizia è un'espiazione.
4 Do not appear empty-handed in the Lord's presence; for all these things are due under thecommandment.	4 Non comparire a mani vuote davanti al Signore, tutti questi sacrifici sono comandati.
5 The offering of the upright graces the altar, and its savour rises before the Most High.	5 Il sacrificio del giusto ingrassa l'altare e il suo profumo giunge innanzi all'Altissimo.
6 The sacrifice of the upright is acceptable, its memorial wil not be forgotten.	6 Il sacrificio del giusto è gradito, il suo ricordo non sarà dimenticato.
7 Honour the Lord with generosity, do not stint the first-fruits you bring.	7 Onora il Signore con occhio contento e non lesinargli le primizie delle tue mani.
8 Add a smiling face to al your gifts, and be cheerful as you dedicate your tithes.	8 In ogni offerta abbi un volto lieto, consacra la decima con gioia.
9 Give to the Most High as he has given to you, as generously as your means can afford;	9 Da' all'Altissimo come lui ha dato a te, con occhio contento, quanto si trova nelle tue mani.
10 for the Lord is a good rewarder, he wil reward you seven times over.	10 Perché il Signore è uno che ricambia, ti ridarà sette volte tanto.
11 Do not try to bribe him with presents, he wil not accept them, do not put your faith in wronglymotivated sacrifices;	11 Non cercare di corromperlo con doni, non accetterà, e non confidare in un sacrificio ingiusto,
12 for the Lord is a judge who is utterly impartial.	12 perché il Signore è un vero giudice che non s'inganna con la gloria apparente.
13 He never shows partiality to the detriment of the poor, he listens to the plea of the injured party.	13 Non fa favori a spese del povero, né esaudisce la preghiera se è maltrattato.
14 He does not ignore the orphan's supplication, nor the widow's as she pours out her complaint.	14 Non è insensibile alla supplica dell'orfano e della vedova che versa il suo lamento.
15 Do the widow's tears not run down her cheeks, as she accuses the man who is the cause of them?	15 Se le lacrime della vedova scendono sulle guance, il suo grido non scenderà contro chi le fa versare?
16 Whoever wholeheartedly serves God will be accepted, his petitions wil carry to the clouds.	16 Chi serve Dio come lui vuole, sarà accetto, la sua preghiera giungerà fino alle nubi.
17 The prayer of the humble pierces the clouds: and until it does, he is not to be consoled,	17 La preghiera dell'umile attraversa le nubi: finché essa non approda, egli non si consola,
18 nor wil he desist until the Most High takes notice of him, acquits the upright and delivers judgement.	18 finché l'Altissimo non interviene, essa non si ferma, per riconoscere ed eseguire il diritto dei giusti.
19 And the Lord will not be slow, nor wil he be dilatory on their behalf,	19 Il Signore non farà indugio, non avrà pazienza con loro,
20 until he has crushed the loins of the merciless and exacted vengeance on the nations,	20 finché avrà spezzato i fianchi dei violenti e fatta vendetta contro le nazioni,
21 until he has eliminated the hordes of the arrogant and broken the sceptres of the wicked,	21 finché avrà sterminato la massa degli insolenti e spezzato gli scettri degli ingiusti,
22 until he has repaid al people as their deeds deserve and human actions as their intentions merit,	22 finché avrà reso a ciascuno secondo le sue opere e a tutti secondo le loro intenzioni,
23 until he has judged the case of his people and made them rejoice in his mercy.	23 finché renderà giustizia al suo popolo per consolarlo nella sua misericordia.
24 Mercy is welcome in time of trouble, like rain clouds in time of drought.	24 La sua misericordia è propizia nella tribolazione come la nube della pioggia nella siccità.
