Sirach 35

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLIA
1 One who keeps the Law multiplies offerings; one who fol ows the commandments offers communionsacrifices.	1 Observar la ley es hacer muchas ofrendas, atender a los mandamientos es hacer sacrificios de comunión.
2 Proof of gratitude is an offering of fine flour, almsgiving a sacrifice of praise.	2 Devolver favor es hacer oblación de flor de harina, hacer limosna es ofrecer sacrificios de alabanza.
3 To abandon wickedness is what pleases the Lord, to give up wrong-doing is an expiatory sacrifice.	3 Apartarse del mal es complacer al Señor, sacrificio de expiación apartarse de la injusticia.
4 Do not appear empty-handed in the Lord's presence; for all these things are due under thecommandment.	4 No te presentes ante el Señor con las manos vacías, pues todo esto es lo que prescribe el mandamiento.
5 The offering of the upright graces the altar, and its savour rises before the Most High.	5 La ofrenda del justo unge el altar, su buen olor sube ante el Altísimo.
6 The sacrifice of the upright is acceptable, its memorial wil not be forgotten.	6 El sacrificio del justo es aceptado, su memorial no se olvidará.
7 Honour the Lord with generosity, do not stint the first-fruits you bring.	7 Con ojo generoso glorifica al Señor, y no escatimes las primicias de tus manos.
8 Add a smiling face to al your gifts, and be cheerful as you dedicate your tithes.	8 En todos tus dones pon tu rostro alegre, con contento consagra los diezmos.
9 Give to the Most High as he has given to you, as generously as your means can afford;	9 Da al Altísimo como él te ha dado a ti, con ojo generoso, con arreglo a tus medios.
10 for the Lord is a good rewarder, he wil reward you seven times over.	10 Porque el Señor sabe pagar, y te devolverá siete veces más.
11 Do not try to bribe him with presents, he wil not accept them, do not put your faith in wronglymotivated sacrifices;	11 No trates de corromperle con presentes, porque no los acepta, no te apoyes en sacrificio injusto.
12 for the Lord is a judge who is utterly impartial.	12 Porque el Señor es juez, y no cuenta para él la gloria de nadie.
13 He never shows partiality to the detriment of the poor, he listens to the plea of the injured party.	13 No hace acepción de personas contra el pobre, y la plegaria del agraviado escucha.
14 He does not ignore the orphan's supplication, nor the widow's as she pours out her complaint.	14 No desdeña la súplica del huérfano, ni a la viuda, cuando derrama su lamento.
15 Do the widow's tears not run down her cheeks, as she accuses the man who is the cause of them?	15 Las lágrimas de la viuda, ¿no bajan por su mejilla, y su clamor contra el que las provocó?
16 Whoever wholeheartedly serves God will be accepted, his petitions wil carry to the clouds.	16 Quien sirve de buena gana, es aceptado, su plegaria sube hasta las nubes.
17 The prayer of the humble pierces the clouds: and until it does, he is not to be consoled,	17 La oración del humilde las nubes atraviesa, hasta que no llega a su término no se consuela él.
18 nor wil he desist until the Most High takes notice of him, acquits the upright and delivers judgement.	18 Y no desiste hasta que vuelve los ojos el Altísimo, hace justicia a los justos y ejecuta el juicio.
19 And the Lord will not be slow, nor wil he be dilatory on their behalf,	19 Y el Señor no se tardará, ni tendrá con éstos más paciencia,
20 until he has crushed the loins of the merciless and exacted vengeance on the nations,	20 hasta no haber machacado los lomos de los sin entrañas, y haber tomado venganza de las naciones,
21 until he has eliminated the hordes of the arrogant and broken the sceptres of the wicked,	21 haber extirpado el tropel de los soberbios, y quebrado el cetro de los injustos,
22 until he has repaid al people as their deeds deserve and human actions as their intentions merit,	22 hasta no haber pagado a cada cual según sus actos, las obras de los hombres según sus intenciones,
23 until he has judged the case of his people and made them rejoice in his mercy.	23 haber hecho justicia a su pueblo, y haberles dado contento con su misericordia.
24 Mercy is welcome in time of trouble, like rain clouds in time of drought.	24 Grata es la misericordia en tiempo de tribulación, como nubes de lluvia en tiempo de sequía.
