Sirach 33

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA TINTORI
1 No evil wil befal one who fears the Lord, such a one will be rescued even in the ordeal.	1 Chi teme Dio non incorrerà in alcun male; Dio lo proteggerà nella tentazione e lo libererà dal male.
2 No one who hates the Law is wise, one who is hypocritical about it is like a storm-tossed ship.	2 Il sapiente non odia i comandamenti e la legge, e non darà negli scogli, come nave in tempesta.
3 An intelligent person will put faith in the Law, for such a one the Law is as dependable as a prophecy.	3 L'uomo di senno è fedele alla legge di Dio, e la legge è fedele a lui.
4 Prepare what you have to say and you will get a hearing, marshal your information before you answer.	4 Chi spiega una quistione preparerà il discorso, e così quando pregherà sarà esaudito, raccoglierà la dottrina e al lora risponderà.
5 The feelings of a fool are like a cart-wheel, a fool's thought revolves like a turning axle.	5 Il cuore dello stolto è come la rota d'un carro; e come asse che gira è il suo pensiero.
6 A rutting stal ion is like a sarcastic friend; he neighs, whoever rides him.	6 L'amico finto è come cavallo stallone che nitrisce sotto qualunque cavaliere.
7 Why is one day better than another, though the sun gives the same daylight throughout the year?	7 Perché un giorno è da più di un altro, così la luce è da più della luce, e un anno da più dell'altro se (tutto vien) dal sole?
8 They have been differentiated in the mind of the Lord, who has diversified the seasons and feasts;	8 La sapienza del Signore li distinse, dopo aver fatto il sole, obbediente ai suoi ordini.

10 Human beings come from the ground, Adam himself was formed out of earth;	10 Di essi alcuni Dio li esaltò e li fece grandi, gli altri li lasciò nel numero dei giorni comuni. E tutti gli uomini li ha fatti dalla polvere, dalla terra donde fu creato Adamo.
11 in the fullness of his wisdom the Lord has made distinctions between them, and diversified theirconditions.	11 Nella grandezza della sua sapienza il Signore li distinse, e ne variò i destini.
12 Some of them he has blessed, hal owing and setting them near him; others he has cursed andhumiliated by degrading them from their positions.	12 Di essi alcuni li benedisse ed esaltò, alcuni li santificò e li prese per sè, altri invece li maledisse, li umiliò e li cacciò dal paese dove stavano ritirati.
13 Like clay in the hands of the potter to mould as it pleases him, so are human beings in the hands oftheir Maker to reward as he judges right.	13 Come l'argilla è in mano del vasaio, che la plasma e la dispone
14 Opposite evil stands good, opposite death, life; so too opposite the devout stands the sinner.	14 e tutta la forma a suo piacimento, così l'uomo è nelle mani di colui che l'ha fatto e lo ricompenserà secondo il suo giudizio.
15 Contemplate al the works of the Most High, you wil find they go in pairs, by opposites.	15 Di fronte al male sta il bene, contro la morte la vita, così contro all'uomo giusto sta il peccatore. Considera così tutte le opere dell'Altissimo: stanno a due a due, e l'una contro l'altra.
16 Although the last to come, I have kept my eyes open like a man picking up what the grape-pickershave left.	16 Io poi mi sono svegliato l'ultimo, e sono come chi raspolla dopo i vendemmiatori.
17 By the blessing of the Lord I have come in first, and like a true grape-picker have fil ed my winepress.	17 Ma, colla benedizione di Dio. anch'io ho sperato e come vendemmiatore ho riempito il mio tino.
18 And note, I have not been working merely for myself, but for al who seek instruction.	18 Considerate che non ho faticato per me solo, ma per tutti quelli che cercano d'istruirsi.
19 Listen to me, important public figures, presidents of the assembly, give ear!	19 Ascoltatemi, o grandi, o popoli tutti, capi dell'assemblea, porgete l'orecchio.
20 Neither to son nor wife, brother nor friend, give power over yourself during your own lifetime. And donot give your property to anyone else, in case you regret it and have to ask for it back.	20 Al figlio, alla moglie, al fra­tello, all'amico, non dar potere sopra di te finché vivi, non cedere ad altri i tuoi beni, se non vuoi pentirtene ed esser costretto a raccomandarti per averli.
21 As long as you live and there is breath in your body, do not yield power over yourself to anyone;	21 Finchè vivi e respiri nessuno ti faccia mutar di parere.
22 better for your children to come begging to you, than for you to have to go begging to them.	22 Perchè è meglio che i tuoi figli preghino te, anziché tu abbia a guardare nelle mani dei tuoi figli.
23 In al you do be the master, and leave a reputation unstained.	23 In tutte le tue opere resta tu il principale,
24 The day your life draws to a close, at the hour of death, then distribute your heritage.	24 e non macchiare la tua gloria. Quando finiscono i tuoi giorni, alla morte, distribuisci la tua eredità.
25 Fodder, the stick and burdens for a donkey, bread, discipline and work for a slave.	25 Fieno, bastone e soma all'asino, pane, castigo e lavoro allo schiavo:
26 Work your slave hard, and you wil have peace of mind, leave his hands idle, and he wil be asking forhis freedom.	26 lavora costretto dalla sferza, cerca riposarsi; se lasci le sue mani oziose cerca la libertà.
27 Yoke and harness wil bow the neck, for a bad servant, torments and the rack.	27 Il giogo e le redini fan piegare il collo duro, e il continuo lavoro piega lo schiavo.
28 Set him to work, so that he will not be idle; idleness teaches every kind of mischief.	28 Al servo cattivo battiture e ceppi: mandalo al lavoro, chè non stia in ozio;
29 Keep him at his duties, where he should be, if he is disobedient, clap him in irons.	29 perchè l'ozio insegna molta malizia.
30 But do not be over-exacting with anyone, and do nothing contrary to justice.	30 Impiegalo nei lavori, chè ciò gli conviene, se non obbedisce, piegalo coi ceppi; ma non eccedere con nessuno, e senza giudizio non far nulla di grave.
31 You have only one slave? Treat him like yourself, since you have acquired him with blood.	31 Se tu hai uno schiavo fedele tienne di conto come della tua vita, trattalo come fratello, perchè l'hai comprato col sangue della tua vita.
32 You have only one slave? Treat him as a brother, since you need him as you need yourself.	32 Se tu lo maltratti ingiustamente, si darà alla fuga.
33 If you ill-treat him and he runs away, which way wil you go to look for him?	33 E se, sottraendosi a te, se ne fugge, non sai a chi domandarne, nè per qual via cercarlo.
