Sirach 33

NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 No evil wil befal one who fears the Lord, such a one will be rescued even in the ordeal.	1 El que teme al Señor no sufrirá ningún mal y en la prueba será librado una y otra vez.
2 No one who hates the Law is wise, one who is hypocritical about it is like a storm-tossed ship.	2 Un hombre sabio nunca detesta la Ley, pero el que finge observarla es como un barco en la tempestad.
3 An intelligent person will put faith in the Law, for such a one the Law is as dependable as a prophecy.	3 Un hombre inteligente confía en la Ley y la tiene tanta fe como a un oráculo divino.
4 Prepare what you have to say and you will get a hearing, marshal your information before you answer.	4 Prepara lo que vas a decir, y así serás escuchado, resume lo que sabes, y luego responde.
5 The feelings of a fool are like a cart-wheel, a fool's thought revolves like a turning axle.	5 Los sentimientos del necio son una rueda de carro y su conversación, como un eje que da vueltas.
6 A rutting stal ion is like a sarcastic friend; he neighs, whoever rides him.	6 Un amigo burlón es como un caballo en celo: relincha bajo cualquier jinete.
7 Why is one day better than another, though the sun gives the same daylight throughout the year?	7 ¿Por qué un día es más importante que otro, si a todos los días del año la luz les viene del sol?
8 They have been differentiated in the mind of the Lord, who has diversified the seasons and feasts;	8 Es la ciencia del Señor la que los hizo diferentes, y él diversificó los tiempos y las fiestas:
9 some he has made more important and has hal owed, others he has made ordinary days.	9 a unos días los exaltó y consagró, y a otros los computó entre los días ordinarios.
10 Human beings come from the ground, Adam himself was formed out of earth;	10 Todos los hombres provienen del suelo, y Adán fue creado de la tierra;
11 in the fullness of his wisdom the Lord has made distinctions between them, and diversified theirconditions.	11 pero, en su gran sabiduría, el Señor los distinguió y los hizo marchar por caminos diversos:
12 Some of them he has blessed, hal owing and setting them near him; others he has cursed andhumiliated by degrading them from their positions.	12 a unos los bendijo y exaltó, los consagró y los acercó a él; a otros los maldijo y humilló, y los derribó de sus puestos.
13 Like clay in the hands of the potter to mould as it pleases him, so are human beings in the hands oftheir Maker to reward as he judges right.	13 Como está la arcilla en las manos del alfarero, que dispone de ella según su voluntad, así están los hombres en las manos de su Creador, y él les retribuirá según su decisión.
14 Opposite evil stands good, opposite death, life; so too opposite the devout stands the sinner.	14 Frente al mal, está el bien y frente a la muerte, la vida: así, frente al hombre bueno, está el pecador.
15 Contemplate al the works of the Most High, you wil find they go in pairs, by opposites.	15 Considera asimismo todas las obras del Altísimo: están de dos en dos, una frente a otra.
16 Although the last to come, I have kept my eyes open like a man picking up what the grape-pickershave left.	16 Yo, el último en llegar, me mantuve alerta como quien recoge detrás de los viñadores.
17 By the blessing of the Lord I have come in first, and like a true grape-picker have fil ed my winepress.	17 Por la bendición del Señor, he llegado a tiempo, y como un viñador, he llenado el lagar.
18 And note, I have not been working merely for myself, but for al who seek instruction.	18 Sepan que no me fatigué para mí solamente, sino para todos los que buscan la instrucción.
19 Listen to me, important public figures, presidents of the assembly, give ear!	19 Escúchenme, grandes del pueblo, y ustedes, jefes de la asamblea, préstenme atención.
20 Neither to son nor wife, brother nor friend, give power over yourself during your own lifetime. And donot give your property to anyone else, in case you regret it and have to ask for it back.	20 Sea hijo o mujer, hermano o amigo, a nadie des autoridad sobre ti mientras vivas. Tampoco entregues tus bienes a otro, no sea que te arrepientas y los tengas que reclamar.
21 As long as you live and there is breath in your body, do not yield power over yourself to anyone;	21 Mientras vivas y tengas aliento, no te dejes enajenar por nadie:
22 better for your children to come begging to you, than for you to have to go begging to them.	22 es mejor que tus hijos te pidan que tener tus ojos fijos en sus manos.
23 In al you do be the master, and leave a reputation unstained.	23 En todo lo que hagas, sé tú el que dirige, y no manches con nada tu reputación.
24 The day your life draws to a close, at the hour of death, then distribute your heritage.	24 Cuando lleguen a su término los días de tu vida, a la hora de la muerte, reparte tu herencia.
25 Fodder, the stick and burdens for a donkey, bread, discipline and work for a slave.	25 Al asno el forraje, el bastón y la carga; al servidor el pan, la disciplina y el trabajo.
26 Work your slave hard, and you wil have peace of mind, leave his hands idle, and he wil be asking forhis freedom.	26 Obliga a trabajar a tu esclavo, y encontrarás descanso; déjalo desocupado, y buscará la libertad.
27 Yoke and harness wil bow the neck, for a bad servant, torments and the rack.	27 El yugo y las riendas doblegan la nuca, y para el servidor perverso, están la tortura y el tormento.
28 Set him to work, so that he will not be idle; idleness teaches every kind of mischief.	28 Fuérzalo a trabajar, para que no se quede ocioso, porque el ocio enseña muchas cosas malas.
29 Keep him at his duties, where he should be, if he is disobedient, clap him in irons.	29 Oblígalo a trabajar como le corresponde, y si no obedece, ata sus pies con cadenas.
30 But do not be over-exacting with anyone, and do nothing contrary to justice.	30 Pero a nadie le exijas más de la cuenta, y no hagas nada sin justicia.
31 You have only one slave? Treat him like yourself, since you have acquired him with blood.	31 Si no tienes más que un servidor, considéralo como a ti mismo, porque lo has adquirido con sangre;
32 You have only one slave? Treat him as a brother, since you need him as you need yourself.	32 si no tienes más que un servidor, trátalo como a un hermano, porque lo necesitas tanto como a ti mismo.
33 If you ill-treat him and he runs away, which way wil you go to look for him?	33 Si tú lo maltratas y él termina por escaparse, ¿por qué camino lo irás a buscar?
