Sirach 33

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA RICCIOTTI
1 No evil wil befal one who fears the Lord, such a one will be rescued even in the ordeal.	1 - a chi teme il Signore non incoglierà male; ma nella tentazione Dio lo salverà e lo libererà da' mali.
2 No one who hates the Law is wise, one who is hypocritical about it is like a storm-tossed ship.	2 il savio non odia i comandamenti e la legge, e non sarà sbattuto [contro gli scogli] come una nave in burrasca.
3 An intelligent person will put faith in the Law, for such a one the Law is as dependable as a prophecy.	3 L'uomo assennato ha fiducia nella legge di Dio, e la legge è per lui fedele [come un oracolo].
4 Prepare what you have to say and you will get a hearing, marshal your information before you answer.	4 Prepara il discorso e sarai ascoltato; raccogli il tuo sapere e rispondi.
5 The feelings of a fool are like a cart-wheel, a fool's thought revolves like a turning axle.	5 Come la ruota d'un carro son le interiora dello stolto, e come un asse che gira, i suoi pensieri.
6 A rutting stal ion is like a sarcastic friend; he neighs, whoever rides him.	6 Come un cavallo stallone è l'amico beffardo: sotto chiunque lo monta, nitrisce.
7 Why is one day better than another, though the sun gives the same daylight throughout the year?	7 Perchè un giorno sopravanza un altro, mentre la luce d'ogni giorno dell'anno [viene] dal sole?
8 They have been differentiated in the mind of the Lord, who has diversified the seasons and feasts;	8 Dalla sapienza del Signore furono distinti, fatto che fu il sole, che obbedisce agli ordini;
9 some he has made more important and has hal owed, others he has made ordinary days.	9 ed egli variò le stagioni e i loro giorni festivi, che in quelle son celebrati all'ora stabilita.
10 Human beings come from the ground, Adam himself was formed out of earth;	10 Alcuni di quei [giorni] Dio esaltò e santificò; altri di essi mise a far numero tra i giorni. E [cosi] tutti gli uomini [vengono] dalla polvere, e dalla terra, donde fu creato Adamo.
11 in the fullness of his wisdom the Lord has made distinctions between them, and diversified theirconditions.	11 Nella pienezza della sapienza il Signore li distinse, e variò le loro vie:
12 Some of them he has blessed, hal owing and setting them near him; others he has cursed andhumiliated by degrading them from their positions.	12 alcuni di essi benedisse ed esaltò, e parte ne santificò e avvicinò a sè; e altri ne maledisse e umiliò, e li rovesciò dalla loro posizione.
13 Like clay in the hands of the potter to mould as it pleases him, so are human beings in the hands oftheir Maker to reward as he judges right.	13 Come la creta del vasaio è in mano sua perchè l'impasti e la formi,
14 Opposite evil stands good, opposite death, life; so too opposite the devout stands the sinner.	14 e tutti i suoi destini dipendono dal beneplacito di lui; così l'uomo è in mano di colui che l'ha creato, il quale dà a lui secondo il suo giudizio.
15 Contemplate al the works of the Most High, you wil find they go in pairs, by opposites.	15 Di fronte al male sta il bene e di fronte alla morte la vita: cosi di fronte al giusto il peccatore. E similmente osserva tutte le opere dell'Altissimo: [son sempre] a due a due, l'una opposta all'altra.
16 Although the last to come, I have kept my eyes open like a man picking up what the grape-pickershave left.	16 Or io mi son levato Pulitino [tra i cultori della sapienza], e come uno che racimola dietro i vendemmiatori.
17 By the blessing of the Lord I have come in first, and like a true grape-picker have fil ed my winepress.	17 Nella benedizione del Signore ho sperato, e come uno che vendemmia ho riempito il tino.
18 And note, I have not been working merely for myself, but for al who seek instruction.	18 Vedete come non per me solo ho lavorato, ma per tutti quelli che cercano d'istruirsi.
19 Listen to me, important public figures, presidents of the assembly, give ear!	19 Ascoltatemi, o grandi del popolo, e voi, che presiedete alla società, prestate orecchio.
20 Neither to son nor wife, brother nor friend, give power over yourself during your own lifetime. And donot give your property to anyone else, in case you regret it and have to ask for it back.	20 Al figliuolo e alla moglie, al fratello e all'amico non dar braccio su te durante la tua vita. E non abbandonare ad altri le tue ricchezze, perchè tu non abbia a pentirtene e supplicare per riaverle.
21 As long as you live and there is breath in your body, do not yield power over yourself to anyone;	21 Fintantoché tu vivi e respiri, che nessuno pigli il tuo posto.
22 better for your children to come begging to you, than for you to have to go begging to them.	22 Meglio è che i figliuoli preghino te, che tu debba guardare [in supplice attesa] alle mani de' tuoi figliuoli.
23 In al you do be the master, and leave a reputation unstained.	23 In tutte le tue azioni resta tu il padrone:
24 The day your life draws to a close, at the hour of death, then distribute your heritage.	24 non imprimer macchia alla tua riputazione. Sul punto di finire i giorni di tua vita, e nell'ora della tua morte, [allora] distribuisci la tua eredità,
25 Fodder, the stick and burdens for a donkey, bread, discipline and work for a slave.	25 pasto, bastone e soma all'asino: pane, castigo e lavoro allo schiavo.
26 Work your slave hard, and you wil have peace of mind, leave his hands idle, and he wil be asking forhis freedom.	26 Questi lavora [solo] se castigato, e cerca il riposo; lasciagli le mani sciolte, e cercherà la libertà.
27 Yoke and harness wil bow the neck, for a bad servant, torments and the rack.	27 Il giogo e la briglia fan piegare il collo rigido, e le continue fatiche domano lo schiavo;
28 Set him to work, so that he will not be idle; idleness teaches every kind of mischief.	28 per lo schiavo cattivo la tortura e i ceppi! Immergilo nel lavoro, che non stia ozioso;
29 Keep him at his duties, where he should be, if he is disobedient, clap him in irons.	29 perché di molto male l'ozio é maestro.
30 But do not be over-exacting with anyone, and do nothing contrary to justice.	30 Mettilo al lavoro, come a lui si conviene: e se non t'obbedisce, domalo co' ceppi a' piedi. Ma non eccedere verso nessun uomo, e senza diritto non far nulla di grave,
31 You have only one slave? Treat him like yourself, since you have acquired him with blood.	31 Se hai uno schiavo fedele, sia per te come l'anima tua, trattalo come un fratello: perché col sangue dell'anima l'hai comprato.
32 You have only one slave? Treat him as a brother, since you need him as you need yourself.	32 Se ingiustamente lo maltratti, si darà alla fuga.
33 If you ill-treat him and he runs away, which way wil you go to look for him?	33 E se piglia e se ne va, non saprai a chi dimandarne, né per qual via andarne in cerca.
