Sirach 33

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA MARTINI
1 No evil wil befal one who fears the Lord, such a one will be rescued even in the ordeal.	1 A chi teme il Signore, nulla avverrà di male, ma nella tentazione Iddio lo conserverà, e lo libererà dai mali.
2 No one who hates the Law is wise, one who is hypocritical about it is like a storm-tossed ship.	2 L'uomo sapiente non odia i comandamenti, e la legge, e non darà negli scogli, come una nave in tempesta.
3 An intelligent person will put faith in the Law, for such a one the Law is as dependable as a prophecy.	3 L'uomo sensato è fedele alla legge di Dio, e la legge è fedele a lui.
4 Prepare what you have to say and you will get a hearing, marshal your information before you answer.	4 Chi illustra un quesito, si preparerà a discorrerne, e cosi dopo fatta orazione sarà esaudito, e conserverà la buona dottrina, a allora risponderà.
5 The feelings of a fool are like a cart-wheel, a fool's thought revolves like a turning axle.	5 Il cuore dello stolto è come la ruota di un carro, e i suoi pensieri son come un asse, che gira.
6 A rutting stal ion is like a sarcastic friend; he neighs, whoever rides him.	6 L'amico finto è come un cavallo stallone, il quale nitrisce a chiunque il cavalca.
7 Why is one day better than another, though the sun gives the same daylight throughout the year?	7 Donde avvien egli, che un giorno è da più di un altro, e la luce di un dì è da più di un'altra, e un anno da più dell'altro, sendo tutti dal sole?
8 They have been differentiated in the mind of the Lord, who has diversified the seasons and feasts;	8 La sapienza del Signore li distinse dopo creato il sole, che ubbidisce agli ordini ricevuti.
9 some he has made more important and has hal owed, others he has made ordinary days.	9 Egli ordinò le stagioni, e in esse i loro giorni festivi, onde in quelle si celebrano le solennità all'ora stabilita.
10 Human beings come from the ground, Adam himself was formed out of earth;	10 Di essi giorni Dio alcuni li fece grandi, ed altri lasciò nella turba de' giorni; e tutti gli uomini li fece di polvere, e di terra, donde fu creato Adamo.
11 in the fullness of his wisdom the Lord has made distinctions between them, and diversified theirconditions.	11 Colla sua molta sapienza il Signore li distinse, e variò le lor condizioni.
12 Some of them he has blessed, hal owing and setting them near him; others he has cursed andhumiliated by degrading them from their positions.	12 Di essi altri ne benedisse, e gli esaltò, e ne santificò, e ne prese per se, e altri maledisse, e umiliò, e li discacciò dal paese dove stavano separati.
13 Like clay in the hands of the potter to mould as it pleases him, so are human beings in the hands oftheir Maker to reward as he judges right.	13 Come la creta del vasaio è nelle mani di lui per impastarla, e metterla in opera.
14 Opposite evil stands good, opposite death, life; so too opposite the devout stands the sinner.	14 E l'uso di essa è in suo arbitrio; così l'uomo è nelle mani di colui, che lo fece, il quale renderà a lui secondo i suoi giudizj.
15 Contemplate al the works of the Most High, you wil find they go in pairs, by opposites.	15 Il bene è contrario al male, e la Tita è contraria alla morte; così l'uomo giusto sta di contro al peccatore; e cosi tutte le opere dell'Altissimo le vedrai a due a due, e l'una opposta all'altra.
16 Although the last to come, I have kept my eyes open like a man picking up what the grape-pickershave left.	16 Or io mi sono alzato l'ultimo, e come uno, che raspolla dopo i vendemmiatori.
17 By the blessing of the Lord I have come in first, and like a true grape-picker have fil ed my winepress.	17 Io pure nella benedizione di Dio ho sperato, e come un che vendemmia ho empiuto il tino.
18 And note, I have not been working merely for myself, but for al who seek instruction.	18 Mirate com'io non per me solo ho faticato, ma per tutti quelli, che cercano d'istruirsi.
19 Listen to me, important public figures, presidents of the assembly, give ear!	19 Ascoltate me, o magnati, e popoli tutti quanti, e voi, che presiedete all'adunanze, porgete attente le orecchie.
20 Neither to son nor wife, brother nor friend, give power over yourself during your own lifetime. And donot give your property to anyone else, in case you regret it and have to ask for it back.	20 Al figliuolo, e alla moglie, al fratello, e all'amico non dar potestà sopra di te, fino, che tu se' vivo, e non cedere ad altri quelle cose, che tu possiedi, affinchè non avvenga, che ripentito tu debba inchinarti a ridomandarle.
21 As long as you live and there is breath in your body, do not yield power over yourself to anyone;	21 Sino a tanto che tu se' al mondo, e respiri, nissun uomo ti faccia mutar di parere;
22 better for your children to come begging to you, than for you to have to go begging to them.	22 Perocché è meglio, che i tuoi figliuoli debban ricorrer a te, che se tu avessi ad aspettare l'aiuto de' figliuoli.
23 In al you do be the master, and leave a reputation unstained.	23 In tutte le cose tue mantieni la tua superiorità:
24 The day your life draws to a close, at the hour of death, then distribute your heritage.	24 Affine di non macchiare la tua riputazione. E quando son per finire i giorni della tua vita, e nel tempo di tua morte distribuisci la tua eredità.
25 Fodder, the stick and burdens for a donkey, bread, discipline and work for a slave.	25 Fieno, bastone, e soma all'asino; pane, sferza, e lavoro allo schiavo.
26 Work your slave hard, and you wil have peace of mind, leave his hands idle, and he wil be asking forhis freedom.	26 Questi lavora quand'è castigato, e ama il riposo: allarga con lui la mano, ed egli cercherà di mettersi in libertà.
27 Yoke and harness wil bow the neck, for a bad servant, torments and the rack.	27 Il giogo, e la fune piegano il collo duro, e l'assidua fatica ammansisce il servo.
28 Set him to work, so that he will not be idle; idleness teaches every kind of mischief.	28 Al servo di mala volontà battiture, e ceppi. Mandalo al lavoro, affinché non istia in ozio;
29 Keep him at his duties, where he should be, if he is disobedient, clap him in irons.	29 Perocché l'oziosità di molli vizi è maestra.
30 But do not be over-exacting with anyone, and do nothing contrary to justice.	30 Costringilo a lavorare, perché ciò a lui si conviene, e se egli non sarà ubbidiente, fallo docile col metterlo a' ceppi, ma guardati dagli eccessi contro la carne di chicchessia, e non far cosa grave senza ponderazione.
31 You have only one slave? Treat him like yourself, since you have acquired him with blood.	31 Se tu hai un servo fedele, tienne conto come dell'anima tua: trattalo come fratello: perocché lo hai comperato col tuo sangue.
32 You have only one slave? Treat him as a brother, since you need him as you need yourself.	32 Se tu ingiustamente il maltratti, egli si darà alla fuga.
33 If you ill-treat him and he runs away, which way wil you go to look for him?	33 Che se egli si toglie da te, e se ne va, tu non sai a chi domandarne, nè per qual via ricercarlo.
