Sirach 33

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLIA
1 No evil wil befal one who fears the Lord, such a one will be rescued even in the ordeal.	1 Al que teme al Señor ningún mal le sucede, aunque sufra una prueba, se verá librado.
2 No one who hates the Law is wise, one who is hypocritical about it is like a storm-tossed ship.	2 El varón sabio no aborrece la ley, mas el que finge observarla es como nave en borrasca.
3 An intelligent person will put faith in the Law, for such a one the Law is as dependable as a prophecy.	3 El hombre inteligente pone su confianza en la ley, la ley es para él digna de fe como un oráculo.
4 Prepare what you have to say and you will get a hearing, marshal your information before you answer.	4 Prepara tu discurso, y serás así escuchado, concentra tu saber y responde.
5 The feelings of a fool are like a cart-wheel, a fool's thought revolves like a turning axle.	5 Rueda de carro son las entrañas del necio, como eje que da vueltas, su razonamiento.
6 A rutting stal ion is like a sarcastic friend; he neighs, whoever rides him.	6 Caballo de remonta, así el amigo burlón, bajo todo el que lo monta relincha.
7 Why is one day better than another, though the sun gives the same daylight throughout the year?	7 ¿Por qué un día es superior a otro, si toda la luz de cada día del año viene del sol?
8 They have been differentiated in the mind of the Lord, who has diversified the seasons and feasts;	8 En la mente del Señor fueron diferenciados, él hizo distintas estaciones y fiestas.
9 some he has made more important and has hal owed, others he has made ordinary days.	9 A unos los ensalzó y santificó, a otros los hizo días ordinarios.
10 Human beings come from the ground, Adam himself was formed out of earth;	10 Así todos los hombres vienen del suelo, de la tierra fue creado Adán.
11 in the fullness of his wisdom the Lord has made distinctions between them, and diversified theirconditions.	11 Con su gran sabiduría los diferenció el Señor, e hizo distintos sus caminos.
12 Some of them he has blessed, hal owing and setting them near him; others he has cursed andhumiliated by degrading them from their positions.	12 A unos los bendijo y ensalzó, los santificó y los puso junto a sí; a otros los maldijo y humilló y los derribó de su puesto.
13 Like clay in the hands of the potter to mould as it pleases him, so are human beings in the hands oftheir Maker to reward as he judges right.	13 Como la arcilla del alfarero está en su mano, - y todos sus caminos en su voluntad -, así los hombres en la mano de su Hacedor, que a cada uno da según su juicio.
14 Opposite evil stands good, opposite death, life; so too opposite the devout stands the sinner.	14 Frente al mal está el bien, frente a la muerte, la vida. Así frente al piadoso, el pecador.
15 Contemplate al the works of the Most High, you wil find they go in pairs, by opposites.	15 Fíjate, pues, en todas las obras del Altísimo, dos a dos, una frente a otra.
16 Although the last to come, I have kept my eyes open like a man picking up what the grape-pickershave left.	16 También yo, el último, me he desvelado, como quien racima tras de los viñadores.
17 By the blessing of the Lord I have come in first, and like a true grape-picker have fil ed my winepress.	17 Por la bendición del Señor me he adelantado, y como viñador he llenado el lagar.
18 And note, I have not been working merely for myself, but for al who seek instruction.	18 Mirad que no para mí solo me he afanado, sino para todos los que buscan la instrucción.
19 Listen to me, important public figures, presidents of the assembly, give ear!	19 Escuchadme, grandes del pueblo, jefes de la asamblea, prestad oído.
20 Neither to son nor wife, brother nor friend, give power over yourself during your own lifetime. And donot give your property to anyone else, in case you regret it and have to ask for it back.	20 A hijo y mujer, a hermano y amigo no des poder sobre ti en vida tuya. No des a otros tus riquezas, no sea que, arrepentido, tengas que suplicar por ellas.
21 As long as you live and there is breath in your body, do not yield power over yourself to anyone;	21 Mientras vivas y haya aliento en ti, no te enajenes a ti mismo a nadie.
22 better for your children to come begging to you, than for you to have to go begging to them.	22 Pues es mejor que tus hijos te pidan, que no que tengas que mirar a los manos de tus hijos.
23 In al you do be the master, and leave a reputation unstained.	23 En todas tus obras muéstrate con dominio, no pongas mancha en tu gloria.
24 The day your life draws to a close, at the hour of death, then distribute your heritage.	24 Cuando se acaben los días de tu vida, a la hora de la muerte, reparte tu herencia.
25 Fodder, the stick and burdens for a donkey, bread, discipline and work for a slave.	25 Al asno, forraje, palo y carga, al criado, pan, instrucción y trabajo.
26 Work your slave hard, and you wil have peace of mind, leave his hands idle, and he wil be asking forhis freedom.	26 Haz trabajar al siervo, y encontrarás descanso, deja libres sus manos, y buscará la libertad.
27 Yoke and harness wil bow the neck, for a bad servant, torments and the rack.	27 Yugo y riendas doblegan la cerviz, al mal criado torturas e inquisiciones.
28 Set him to work, so that he will not be idle; idleness teaches every kind of mischief.	28 Mándale trabajar para que no esté ocioso, que mucho mal enseñó la ociosidad.
29 Keep him at his duties, where he should be, if he is disobedient, clap him in irons.	29 Ponle trabajo como le corresponde, si no obedece, carga sus pies de grillos.
30 But do not be over-exacting with anyone, and do nothing contrary to justice.	30 Pero no te sobrepases con nadie, no hagas nada sin equidad.
31 You have only one slave? Treat him like yourself, since you have acquired him with blood.	31 Si tienes un criado, sea como tú, porque con sangre lo adquiriste.
32 You have only one slave? Treat him as a brother, since you need him as you need yourself.	32 Si tienes un criado, trátale como hermano, porque has menester de él como de ti mismo.
33 If you ill-treat him and he runs away, which way wil you go to look for him?	33 Si le maltratas, y levantándose, se escapa, ¿por qué camino irás a buscarle?
