Sirach 33

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 No evil wil befal one who fears the Lord, such a one will be rescued even in the ordeal.	1 Chi teme il Signore non incontrerà il male, ma dopo la prova sarà liberato.
2 No one who hates the Law is wise, one who is hypocritical about it is like a storm-tossed ship.	2 L'uomo saggio non odia la legge, ma chi finge con essa è come mare in tempesta.
3 An intelligent person will put faith in the Law, for such a one the Law is as dependable as a prophecy.	3 L'uomo ragionevole confida nella Parola, accoglie la legge come responso di un oracolo.
4 Prepare what you have to say and you will get a hearing, marshal your information before you answer.	4 Prepara la tua parola perché sia ascoltata, ripensa alla tua istruzione e poi rispondi.
5 The feelings of a fool are like a cart-wheel, a fool's thought revolves like a turning axle.	5 Ruota di carro i sentimenti dello stolto e asse che gira è il suo pensiero.
6 A rutting stal ion is like a sarcastic friend; he neighs, whoever rides him.	6 L'amico derisore è come uno stallone che nitrisce sotto chiunque lo cavalca.
7 Why is one day better than another, though the sun gives the same daylight throughout the year?	7 Perché un giorno è superiore a un altro, anche se la loro luce viene dal sole?
8 They have been differentiated in the mind of the Lord, who has diversified the seasons and feasts;	8 Sono stati distinti dalla mente del Signore che ha diversificato stagioni e feste.
9 some he has made more important and has hal owed, others he has made ordinary days.	9 Alcuni giorni ha scelto per santificarli, gli altri li destina solo a far numero.
10 Human beings come from the ground, Adam himself was formed out of earth;	10 Anche gli uomini vengon tutti dal fango, e Adamo fu creato dalla terra;
11 in the fullness of his wisdom the Lord has made distinctions between them, and diversified theirconditions.	11 ma il Signore li ha distinti con grande sapienza e ha diversificato le loro vie.
12 Some of them he has blessed, hal owing and setting them near him; others he has cursed andhumiliated by degrading them from their positions.	12 Alcuni li ha benedetti ed elevati, alcuni li ha santificati e avvicinati a sé; altri li ha maledetti e umiliati, li ha rovesciati dalla loro posizione.
13 Like clay in the hands of the potter to mould as it pleases him, so are human beings in the hands oftheir Maker to reward as he judges right.	13 Com'è la creta nelle mani del vasaio che può plasmarla a suo piacimento, così son gli uomini in mano al loro Creatore che dà a ciascuno secondo la sua decisione.
14 Opposite evil stands good, opposite death, life; so too opposite the devout stands the sinner.	14 Davanti al male c'è il bene e davanti alla morte la vita, così davanti all'uomo pio c'è il peccatore.
15 Contemplate al the works of the Most High, you wil find they go in pairs, by opposites.	15 Guarda così a tutte le opere dell'Altissimo, due a due, l'una davanti all'altra.
16 Although the last to come, I have kept my eyes open like a man picking up what the grape-pickershave left.	16 Io sono venuto per ultimo, come chi racimola dopo la vendemmia.
17 By the blessing of the Lord I have come in first, and like a true grape-picker have fil ed my winepress.	17 Ho fatto presto, con la benedizione del Signore, e ho riempito il tino come chi vendemmia.
18 And note, I have not been working merely for myself, but for al who seek instruction.	18 Vedete che non ho faticato per me solo ma per tutti quelli che cercano l'istruzione.
19 Listen to me, important public figures, presidents of the assembly, give ear!	19 Ascoltatemi, o grandi del popolo, e quanti dirigete l'assemblea, udite.
20 Neither to son nor wife, brother nor friend, give power over yourself during your own lifetime. And donot give your property to anyone else, in case you regret it and have to ask for it back.	20 Al figlio e alla moglie, al fratello e all'amico non dar potere su di te, finché vivi. Non dare ad altri i tuoi averi, perché, se cambi idea, non debba richiederli.
21 As long as you live and there is breath in your body, do not yield power over yourself to anyone;	21 Finché vivi e c'è in te respiro, non cedere i tuoi averi a nessuno.
22 better for your children to come begging to you, than for you to have to go begging to them.	22 E' meglio infatti che i figli chiedano a te che non esser tu ad attendere dalle loro mani.
23 In al you do be the master, and leave a reputation unstained.	23 In tutte le opere mantieni la superiorità, non esporre al biasimo la tua dignità.
24 The day your life draws to a close, at the hour of death, then distribute your heritage.	24 Quando finiranno i giorni della vita, solo al momento della morte, fa' il testamento.
25 Fodder, the stick and burdens for a donkey, bread, discipline and work for a slave.	25 Fieno, bastone e carichi per l'asino, pane, disciplina e lavoro per lo schiavo.
26 Work your slave hard, and you wil have peace of mind, leave his hands idle, and he wil be asking forhis freedom.	26 Se lo fai lavorare con rigore, starai in pace, se risparmi le sue mani, cercherà la libertà.
27 Yoke and harness wil bow the neck, for a bad servant, torments and the rack.	27 Giogo e bardatura piegano il collo, corde e torture lo schiavo svogliato.
28 Set him to work, so that he will not be idle; idleness teaches every kind of mischief.	28 Mandalo a lavorare perché non resti ozioso, l'ozio infatti insegna molti disordini.
29 Keep him at his duties, where he should be, if he is disobedient, clap him in irons.	29 Mettilo a lavorare perché questo è il suo dovere, se non obbedisce, opprimilo con i ceppi.
30 But do not be over-exacting with anyone, and do nothing contrary to justice.	30 Ma non esagerare con nessun uomo, e non far nulla contro il diritto.
31 You have only one slave? Treat him like yourself, since you have acquired him with blood.	31 Se hai uno schiavo, sia come te, perché l'hai comprato a prezzo di sangue.
32 You have only one slave? Treat him as a brother, since you need him as you need yourself.	32 Se hai uno schiavo, trattalo da fratello, perché ti necessita come la tua vita.
33 If you ill-treat him and he runs away, which way wil you go to look for him?	33 Se, maltrattato, fugge e t'abbandona, in quale via lo cercherai?
