NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 Whoever exacts vengeance wil experience the vengeance of the Lord, who keeps strict account of sin.	1 Chi ama la vendetta troverà la vendetta del Signore, che terrà severo conto dei suoi peccati.
2 Pardon your neighbour any wrongs done to you, and when you pray, your sins will be forgiven.	2 Perdona al prossimo un atto d'ingiustizia, così quando preghi ti sono perdonati i peccati.
3 If anyone nurses anger against another, can one then demand compassion from the Lord?	3 Chi conserva l'ira contro un altro uomo, può chiedere al Signore la guarigione?
4 Showing no pity for someone like oneself, can one then plead for one's own sins?	4 Se non ha pietà per il suo simile, come può intercedere per i suoi peccati?
5 Mere creature of flesh, yet cherishing resentment!-who wil forgive one for sinning?	5 Se lui che è carne conserva lo sdegno, chi espierà i suoi peccati?
6 Remember the last things, and stop hating, corruption and death, and be faithful to the commandments.	6 Ricorda la tua fine e cessa di odiare, pensa alla morte e alla corruzione, e persevera nei precetti.
7 Remember the commandments, and do not bear your fel ow il -wil , remember the covenant of the MostHigh, and ignore the offence.	7 Ricorda i precetti e il patto dell'Altissimo; non odiare il prossimo e sorvola sui suoi errori.
8 Avoid quarrel ing and you wil sin less; for the hot-tempered provokes quarrels,	8 Evita la lite, così ridurrai i peccati; è il collerico che fa scoppiare la lite.
9 a sinner sows trouble between friends, introducing discord among the peaceful.	9 Il peccatore mette scompiglio fra gli amici e getta la calunnia fra gente che è in pace.
10 The way a fire burns depends on its fuel, a quarrel spreads in proportion to its violence; a man's ragedepends on his strength, his fury grows fiercer in proportion to his wealth.	10 Il fuoco divampa in misura della legna, così la lite s'accresce con l'insistenza; il furore cresce nell'uomo secondo la sua forza e l'ira aumenta secondo la sua ricchezza.
11 A sudden quarrel kindles fire, a hasty dispute leads to bloodshed.	11 La contesa precipitosa attizza il fuoco e la lite travolgente fa scorrere il sangue.
12 Blow on a spark and up it flares, spit on it and out it goes; both are the effects of your mouth.	12 Se soffi sopra la scintilla, essa divampa, se vi sputi sopra, essa si spegne: eppure le due cose vengono dalla stessa bocca.
13 A curse on the scandal-monger and double-talker, such a person has ruined many who lived inconcord.	13 Maledite il chiacchierone e l'ipocrita, hanno rovinato molti che stavano in pace.
14 That third tongue has shattered the peace of many and driven them from nation to nation; it has pul eddown fortified cities, and overthrown the houses of the great.	14 La calunnia d'un estraneo ha scompigliato molti, facendoli emigrare da una nazione all'altra, ha distrutto città fortificate e demolito le case dei grandi.
15 The third tongue has had upright wives divorced, depriving them of reward for their hard work.	15 La calunnia d'un estraneo ha fatto ripudiare mogli eccellenti, le ha derubate delle loro fatiche.
16 No one who listens to it wil ever know peace of mind, wil ever live in peace again.	16 Chi vi presta attenzione non avrà pace, e neppur tranquillità nella sua casa.
17 A stroke of the whip raises a weal, but a stroke of the tongue breaks bones.	17 Il colpo di sferza produce le lividure, il colpo della lingua spezza le ossa.
18 Many have fal en by the edge of the sword, but many more have fal en by the tongue.	18 Molti sono caduti colpiti dalla spada, ma son di più i caduti per la lingua.
19 Blessed is anyone who has been sheltered from it, and has not experienced its fury, who has notdragged its yoke about, or been bound in its chains;	19 Beato chi è difeso dai suoi colpi, e non è cascato sotto il suo sdegno, che non ha portato il suo giogo e non è stato legato alle sue catene:
20 for its yoke is an iron yoke, its chains are bronze chains;	20 perché il suo giogo è giogo di ferro e le sue catene son catene di bronzo.
21 the death it inflicts is a miserable death, Sheol is preferable to it.	21 A terribile morte essa conduce, gl'inferi sono ad essa preferibili.
22 It cannot gain a hold over the devout, they are not burnt by its flames.	22 Non ha potere sugli uomini pii, che non possono bruciare nella sua fiamma.
23 Those who desert the Lord wil fal into it, it wil flare up inextinguishably among them, it wil be letloose against them like a lion, it wil tear them like a leopard.	23 Quanti lasciano il Signore ci cadranno, li brucerà e non si spegnerà; si lancia su di essi come leone, li sevizia come leopardo.
24 Be sure you put a thorn-hedge round your property, lock away your silver and gold;	24 Tu recingi il tuo orto con le spine e metti sotto chiave l'argento e l'oro;
25 then make scales and weights for your words, and put a door with bolts across your mouth.	25 pesa sulla bilancia le tue parole e metti sulla tua bocca una porta sprangata.
26 Take care you take no false step through it, in case you fal a prey to him who lies in wait.	26 Bada a non incespicare con la lingua, per non cadere di fronte all'agguato.
