Sirach 28

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA RICCIOTTI
1 Whoever exacts vengeance wil experience the vengeance of the Lord, who keeps strict account of sin.	1 - Chi vuol vendicarsi proverà la vendetta del Signore: dei suoi peccati e' terrà strettissimo conto.
2 Pardon your neighbour any wrongs done to you, and when you pray, your sins will be forgiven.	2 Condona al prossimo tuo il torto che t'ha fatto, e allora, quando tu pregherai, ti saran rimessi i peccati.
3 If anyone nurses anger against another, can one then demand compassion from the Lord?	3 Un uomo conserva rancore contro un uomo, e invoca da Dio salute?
4 Showing no pity for someone like oneself, can one then plead for one's own sins?	4 Verso un uomo, suo slmile, non ha pietà, e implora per i propri peccati?
5 Mere creature of flesh, yet cherishing resentment!-who wil forgive one for sinning?	5 Egli, che pure è carne, conserva il rancore, e chiede a Dio propiziazione? Chi espierà i peccati di lui?
6 Remember the last things, and stop hating, corruption and death, and be faithful to the commandments.	6 Pensa alla fine, e cessa dall'odiare,
7 Remember the commandments, and do not bear your fel ow il -wil , remember the covenant of the MostHigh, and ignore the offence.	7 perchè la corruzione e la morte [ti] sovrastano ne' suoi comandamenti.
8 Avoid quarrel ing and you wil sin less; for the hot-tempered provokes quarrels,	8 Pensa al timor di Dio e non corrucciarti col prossimo;
9 a sinner sows trouble between friends, introducing discord among the peaceful.	9 pensa all'alleanza dell'Altissimo e passa sopra all'offesa del prossimo.
10 The way a fire burns depends on its fuel, a quarrel spreads in proportion to its violence; a man's ragedepends on his strength, his fury grows fiercer in proportion to his wealth.	10 Tienti lontano dal questionare e diminuirai i peccati,
11 A sudden quarrel kindles fire, a hasty dispute leads to bloodshed.	11 perchè l'uomo iracondo accende le questioni, e il peccatore scompiglia gli amici, e tra quelli che vivono in pace insinua l'inimicizia.
12 Blow on a spark and up it flares, spit on it and out it goes; both are the effects of your mouth.	12 In proporzione delle legna divampa il fuoco, [e a seconda della violenza del contendere la questione s'infiamma]. In proporzione della potenza d'un uomo sarà l'ira sua, e a seconda delle sue ricchezze e' fa salire il suo sdegno.
13 A curse on the scandal-monger and double-talker, such a person has ruined many who lived inconcord.	13 Una precipitata contesa accende il fuoco, e una questione precipitosa fa spargere il sangue: e la lingua che attesta [il falso] arreca morte.
14 That third tongue has shattered the peace of many and driven them from nation to nation; it has pul eddown fortified cities, and overthrown the houses of the great.	14 Se soffi sulla scintilla, divamperà a mo'di fuoco; se ci sputi su, si spengerà: e l'una e l'altra cosa vien dalla [tua] bocca.
15 The third tongue has had upright wives divorced, depriving them of reward for their hard work.	15 Il mormoratore e l'uomo bilingue [sia da te] maledetto: molti invero ha mandati in malora che vivevano in pace.
16 No one who listens to it wil ever know peace of mind, wil ever live in peace again.	16 La lingua d'un terzo sconvolse molti, e li mandò raminghi da un popolo all'altro.
17 A stroke of the whip raises a weal, but a stroke of the tongue breaks bones.	17 Distrusse città fortificate, e case di grandi atterrò.
18 Many have fal en by the edge of the sword, but many more have fal en by the tongue.	18 Abbattè eserciti di popoli, e potenti nazioni dissipò.
19 Blessed is anyone who has been sheltered from it, and has not experienced its fury, who has notdragged its yoke about, or been bound in its chains;	19 La lingua d'un terzo cacciò [di casa] donne virili, e le privò del frutto delle loro fatiche.
20 for its yoke is an iron yoke, its chains are bronze chains;	20 Chi a quella dà retta, non avrà requie, e non avrà un amico su cui riposare.
21 the death it inflicts is a miserable death, Sheol is preferable to it.	21 Un colpo di sferza fa un livido; ma un colpo di lingua stritola le ossa.
22 It cannot gain a hold over the devout, they are not burnt by its flames.	22 Molti caddero per il filo della spada, ma non tanti, quanti perirono per via della lingua.
23 Those who desert the Lord wil fal into it, it wil flare up inextinguishably among them, it wil be letloose against them like a lion, it wil tear them like a leopard.	23 Beato chi è al riparo da una lingua maligna, chi non cade sotto il suo furore, chi non trascina il suo giogo, e ne' suoi ceppi non è incatenato.
24 Be sure you put a thorn-hedge round your property, lock away your silver and gold;	24 Perchè il suo giogo è giogo di ferro, e le sue catene son catene di bronzo.
25 then make scales and weights for your words, and put a door with bolts across your mouth.	25 La morte ch'essa dà, è morte tristissima, meglio di essa è [scendere negli] Inferi.
26 Take care you take no false step through it, in case you fal a prey to him who lies in wait.	26 La sua persistenza non durerà a lungo, ma dominerà le vie degli ingiusti. E con la sua fiamma non abbrucerà i giusti.
	27 Quei che abbandonano il Signore cadranno in [potere di] essa, e divamperà in loro e non si spengerà. E si spingerà addosso a loro come un leone, e come una pantera gli sbranerà.
	28 Fa' una siepe di spine alle tue orecchie e non ascoltare una lingua maligna, e alla tua bocca metti porte e chiavistelli.
	29 Il tuo oro e il tuo argento raduna in [forziere sicuro], e per le tue parole fatti una bilancia [e de' pesi] e opportuni freni [e chiavistelli] per la tua bocca.
	30 E bada di non sdrucciolar per causa della lingua, e cadere alla presenza de' tuoi nemici che stanno in agguato, sicché la tua caduta sia insanabile e mortale!
