Sirach 28

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA MARTINI
1 Whoever exacts vengeance wil experience the vengeance of the Lord, who keeps strict account of sin.	1 Chi vuol vendicarsi, proverà le vendette del Signore, il quale terrà esatto conto de' suoi peccati.
2 Pardon your neighbour any wrongs done to you, and when you pray, your sins will be forgiven.	2 Perdona al prossimo tuo, che ti ha fatto torto, e allora pregando tu ti saran rimessi i peccati tuoi.
3 If anyone nurses anger against another, can one then demand compassion from the Lord?	3 Un uomo cova lo sdegno contro di un uomo, e domanda a Dio guarigione!
4 Showing no pity for someone like oneself, can one then plead for one's own sins?	4 Egli non usa misericordia verso di un uomo simile a se, e chiede perdono de' suoi peccati?
5 Mere creature of flesh, yet cherishing resentment!-who wil forgive one for sinning?	5 Egli, che è carne cova l'ira e chiede che Dio gli sia propizio? Chi espierà i suoi peccati?
6 Remember the last things, and stop hating, corruption and death, and be faithful to the commandments.	6 Ricordati delle ultime cose, e deponi le nimicizie.
7 Remember the commandments, and do not bear your fel ow il -wil , remember the covenant of the MostHigh, and ignore the offence.	7 Perocché la corruzione, e la morte sono intimate ne' comandamenti del Signore.
8 Avoid quarrel ing and you wil sin less; for the hot-tempered provokes quarrels,	8 Ricordati di temere Dio, e non adirarti col tuo prossimo.
9 a sinner sows trouble between friends, introducing discord among the peaceful.	9 Ricordati della alleanza dell'Altissimo, e non far caso dell'ignoranza del prossimo.
10 The way a fire burns depends on its fuel, a quarrel spreads in proportion to its violence; a man's ragedepends on his strength, his fury grows fiercer in proportion to his wealth.	10 Guardati dalle contese, e diminuirai i peccati;
11 A sudden quarrel kindles fire, a hasty dispute leads to bloodshed.	11 Perocché l'uomo iracondo accende le risse, e l'uom peccatore mette discordia tralli amici, e semina nimicizie tra quelli, che stavano in pace;
12 Blow on a spark and up it flares, spit on it and out it goes; both are the effects of your mouth.	12 Perocché proporzionato alle legna del bosco egli è l'incendio, e l'ira dell'uomo è proporzionata al suo potere, e secondo le ricchezze, che egli ha, l'ira di lui sarà più forte.
13 A curse on the scandal-monger and double-talker, such a person has ruined many who lived inconcord.	13 La contesa precipitosa accende il fuoco, e la rissa temeraria va allo spargimento del sangue, e la lingua minacciosa è causa di morte.
14 That third tongue has shattered the peace of many and driven them from nation to nation; it has pul eddown fortified cities, and overthrown the houses of the great.	14 Se soffierai sopra una scintilla, si alzerà una specie d'incendio, e se vi sputerai sopra, ella si spegnerà: l'una cosa, e l'altra viene dalla bocca.
15 The third tongue has had upright wives divorced, depriving them of reward for their hard work.	15 Il mormoratore, e l'uom di due lingue è maledetto; perocché metterà scompiglio tra molti, che stavano in pace.
16 No one who listens to it wil ever know peace of mind, wil ever live in peace again.	16 La lingua di un terzo ha turbati molti, e li ha mandati dispersi da un popolo all'altro.
17 A stroke of the whip raises a weal, but a stroke of the tongue breaks bones.	17 Distrusse città forti, e ricche, e ruinò da' fondamenti delle case potenti.
18 Many have fal en by the edge of the sword, but many more have fal en by the tongue.	18 Annichilò le forze dei popoli, e dissipò genti valorose.
19 Blessed is anyone who has been sheltered from it, and has not experienced its fury, who has notdragged its yoke about, or been bound in its chains;	19 La lingua di un terzo cacciò fuor di casa donne di animo virile, e privolle del frutto di loro fatiche.
20 for its yoke is an iron yoke, its chains are bronze chains;	20 Chi le da retta non avrà requie, e non avrà amico, in cui confidare.
21 the death it inflicts is a miserable death, Sheol is preferable to it.	21 La percossa di sferza fa lividura, ma i colpi della lingua spezzan le ossa.
22 It cannot gain a hold over the devout, they are not burnt by its flames.	22 Sotto il taglio della spada periron molti, ma non quanti per colpa della loro lingua.
23 Those who desert the Lord wil fal into it, it wil flare up inextinguishably among them, it wil be letloose against them like a lion, it wil tear them like a leopard.	23 Beato chi fu sicuro dalla lingua cattiva, e non si imbattè nel furore di lei, e non fu soggetto al suo giogo, e dalle catene di lei non fu avvinto:
24 Be sure you put a thorn-hedge round your property, lock away your silver and gold;	24 Perocché il suo giogo è giogo di ferro, e la sua catena è catena di bronzo.
25 then make scales and weights for your words, and put a door with bolts across your mouth.	25 La morte, che vien da lei, è pessima morte, e men tristo di lei è l'inferno.
26 Take care you take no false step through it, in case you fal a prey to him who lies in wait.	26 Ella non avrà lunga durata, ma regnerà nelle vie degli iniqui, e la sua fiamma non abbrugerà i giusti.
	27 Quelli, che abbandonano Dio, raderanno in potere di lei, ed ella accenderà sopra di essi il suo fuoco, che non si spegnerà, ed ella sarà spedita contro di essi qual lione, e come pardo li sbranerà.
	28 Fa siepe di spine alle tue orecchie, e non ascoltare la mala lingua, e metti una porta, e un chiavistello alla tua borea.
	29 Fondi il tuo oro, e il tuo argento, e fanne una bilancia per le tue parole, e un freno di giustizia per la tua bocca.
	30 E bada di non peccar colla lingua, onde tu non vada per terra a vista de' nemici, che ti insidiano, e non sia insanabile, e mortale la tua caduta.
