Sirach 19

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLIA
1 A drunken workman wil never grow rich, and one who makes light of small matters will gradual y sink.	1 Un obrero bebedor nunca se enriquecerá, el que desprecia las cosas pequeñas, poco a poco caerá.
2 Wine and women corrupt intel igent men, the customer of whores loses al sense of shame.	2 Vino y mujeres pervierten a los inteligentes, el que va a prostitutas es aún más temerario.
3 Grubs and worms wil have him as their legacy, and the man who knows no shame will lose his life.	3 De larvas y gusanos será herencia, el temerario perderá su vida.
4 Being too ready to trust shows shal owness of mind, and sinning harms the sinner.	4 Quien se confía enseguida, ligero es de corazón, el que peca, a sí mismo se hace daño.
5 Taking pleasure in evil earns condemnation;	5 El que se regodea en el mal será condenado,
6 by hating gossip one avoids evil.	6 el que odia la verborrea escapará al mal.
7 Never repeat what you are told and you wil come to no harm;	7 No repitas nunca lo que se dice, y en nada sufrirás menoscabo.
8 whether to friend or foe, do not talk about it, unless it would be sinful not to, do not reveal it;	8 Ni a amigo ni a enemigo cuentes nada, a menos que sea pecado para ti, no le descubras.
9 you would be heard out, then mistrusted, and in due course you would be hated.	9 Porque te escucharía y se guardaría de ti, y en la ocasión propicia te detestaría.
10 Have you heard something? Let it die with you. Courage! It wil not burst you!	10 ¿Has oído algo? ¡Quede muerto en ti! ¡Animo, no reventarás!
11 A fool wil suffer birthpangs over a piece of news, like a woman labouring with child.	11 Por una palabra oída ya está el necio en dolores, como por el hijo la mujer que da a luz.
12 Like an arrow stuck in the flesh of the thigh, so is a piece of news inside a fool.	12 Una flecha clavada en el muslo, tal es la palabra en las entrañas del necio.
13 Question your friend, he may have done nothing at al ; and if he has done anything, he wil not do itagain.	13 Interoga a tu amigo: quizá no haya hecho nada, y si acaso lo ha hecho, para que no reincida.
14 Question your neighbour, he may have said nothing at al ; and if he has said anything, he wil not sayit again.	14 Interroga a tu prójimo: quizá no ha dicho nada, y si acaso lo ha dicho, para que no repita.
15 Question your friend, for slander is very common, do not believe al you hear.	15 Interroga a tu amigo: que hay calumnia a menudo, no creas todo lo que se dice.
16 People sometimes make a slip, without meaning what they say; and which of us has never sinned byspeech?	16 A veces se resbala uno sin querer, y ¿quién no ha pecado con su lengua?
17 Question your neighbour before you threaten him, and defer to the Law of the Most High.	17 Interroga a tu prójimo antes de amenazarle, y obedece a la ley del Altísimo.

20 Wisdom consists entirely in fearing the Lord, and wisdom is entirely constituted by the fulfil ing of theLaw.	20 Toda sabiduría es temor del Señor, y en toda sabiduría se practica la ley.

22 Being learned in evil, however, is not wisdom, there is no prudence in the advice of sinners.	22 Mas no es sabiduría el conocimiento del mal, no está en el consejo de los pecadores la prudencia.
23 There is a cleverness that is detestable; whoever has no wisdom is a fool.	23 Hay un saberlo todo que es abominación, es estúpido el que carece de sabiduría.
24 Better be short of sense and ful of fear, than abound in shrewdness and violate the Law.	24 Más vale ser vacío de inteligencia y lleno de temor, que desbordar prudencia y traspasar la ley.
25 There is a wickedness which is scrupulous but nonetheless dishonest, and there are those whomisuse kindness to win their case.	25 Hay un saberlo todo que sirve a la injusticia, que para mantener el derecho usa de argucias.
26 There is the person who wil walk bowed down with grief, when inwardly this is nothing but deceit:	26 Hay malhechor que anda encorvado por el tedio, mas su interior está lleno de dolo:
27 he hides his face and pretends to be deaf, if he is not unmasked, he wil take advantage of you.	27 tapándose la cara, haciéndose el sordo, mientras no es reconocido te tomará la delantera.
28 There is the person who is prevented from sinning by lack of strength, yet he wil do wrong when hegets the chance.	28 Si por su escasa fuerza no se atreve a pecar, en cuanto encuentre ocasión, se dará a hacer el mal.
29 You can tel a person by his appearance, you can tell a thinker by the look on his face.	29 Por la mirada se reconoce al hombre, por el aspecto del rostro se reconoce al pensador.
30 The way a person dresses, the way he laughs, the way he walks, tel you what he is.	30 El atuendo del hombre, la risa de sus dientes, su caminar revelan lo que es.
